This thread made me redownload DNF, and frankly I take back the "humor being relative" remark; it is much more crude than I remembered it. To be fair, the humor in DN:3D was not in dialog, as there IS no dialog. DNF, however, has its humor entirely in the bland interactions you have with other individuals.
DN3D is weird in comparison. It was usually dead-serious action with tough-as-nails gameplay, considering how easy it was to die. Even if enemies weren't the smartest bulbs sometimes, they tore through armor and health like toilet paper if you weren't careful. And Duke, even as a parody with all sorts of quotes and quips, felt like a badass somehow in relation to the gameplay because he wasn't an idiot or such; just a real pissed off hero out to wreck some aliens and save some women. I guess it's because they gave him other people to actually talk to and not just go SHAKE IT BABY in DNF that they didn't quite know what to do with the character other than make him out to be a 'badass', which.. Comes off as more like being a sexist douchebag more than anything. And they keep trying to paint him as some old hero in the story long past his glory days since 3D, but he's written and acts like he's meant to be the same Duke as ever with no change in age at all, which really makes it feel weird. [editline]12th February 2013[/editline] More on-topic like you suggested though, I wonder if this means Steam will use Eduke32 like they used DOSBOX, or if they'll do things like bring the replay and rewind systems from the Live Arcade port over.
