• Scientists Have Created An Embryo That's Part Human, Part Pig (Chimera)

Well, it's not like they're going to let them come to term. And even if they legally could, they probably wouldn't last that long anyways. You'd have to be VERY precise and very much adept at genetic programming to create an actual hybrid that wouldn't die young in squealing agony. But if creating sentient hybrids ever becomes viable, I have a feeling that millions of people would probably be revealed to be hideous racists. (or speciests, if we want to be technical)
Accurate animal models when

No foreign DNA is being inserted into existing cells, just human stem cells being inserted into a pig embryo and allowed to replicate and differentiate alongside the pig stem cells. And pure human chimeras already exist, usually caused by an embryo or a fetus absorbing a twin and the baby then coming to term. There's been cases before where a mother has found that her children are not genetically hers, and her ovaries were actually developed from her unborn sister's cells that she absorbed before her own birth. It's weird.

A woman's DNA was taken for a test and it came back negative and they took her DNA from a different spot and it came back positive - the former test being the absorbed sibling's DNA and the latter being the grown ass person. Neat stuff!
Um, is this not like breaking ethical codes or what?
I'm sure someone will get upset about it.
Oinkman!

Apparently when I was in the womb, I originally had a twin brother or something during the really early stages. And while he didn't make it past that stage, he got reabsorbed. Whether by mum or by me, I don't know, it's been a long time since I heard the story. But one thing's for sure, if I end up with a botched DNA test at some point, it'll probably be the brother who never was.
Isn't this basically against every law of medical ethics currently on the books?
Isn't this basically against every law of medical ethics currently on the books?
It's morally gray but not illegal since they're not letting them develop.
Oh, Uncanny Valley cliche seening from most Facepunchers and I only one try downplaying this ironic anti-science hypocrisy mentality.
humans > animals.
And there you go, there's one of them. We are ALL animals, dear.
Do you know what a joke is
Sorry put I cant tell being serious here, Because Im new on forums
Ooh, been a while since I've been called one of "them" Don't tell me you're the kind of person that would get your bleeding heart all over my steak and eggs.
To clarify, I wasn't talking about human-animal speciesm, or the qualms and quandries of meat production. I was talking about how, if someone ever created a sentient hybrid, a lot of people would probably hate it for its very existence because they themselves are primitive, under-evolved beasts, enslaved by their primordial instincts to fear and despise anything unfamiliar. Hopefully you're not one of those creatures, since as far as I've seen there aren't any plugins that can reliably detect sarcasm.
So this means that we can make animal DNA accepted in our bodies in the future? That would be really awesome since pig organs and stuff are really compareable to ours. Imagine a world where you can get a new heart immediately instead of having to wait 4 years. Omg you ass
I responded about this article is means we are creating first step of Furry revolution. Already fix your grammar
So this means that we can make animal DNA accepted in our bodies in the future? Congratulations, now burn it, and never do it again.
Uproar when?
People that'd be upset enough to do anything about it are too busy making the lives of women with unplanned pregnancies harder [editline]27th January 2017[/editline]
Congratulations, now burn it, and never do it again.
I have a feeling this won't be the last time, unfortunately.
Scientists said the long-range goal is to better understand and treat an array of human diseases.
I don't see how it correlates in the first place but if they think it does they'll probably continue.
Four legs good, two legs better.
Like, i kinda want it destroyed because bringing it to term is unethical AF, but also i morbidly curious as to what would happen if we did.
Genetic engineering on human is a can of worms that I don't think we're quite ready for as a species
