He's got a point, the concept of abortion is horrific and it'd be just dandy if it weren't needed.
The debate between Pro Choice and Pro Life should be centered around "is it necessary"
Isn't the Catholic Church officially against contraceptives as well? They just don't want you to fuck at all unless you're making babies.
Francis is trying to ween the church away from that. Even if he is against it personally, he won't advocate against it publicly.
“It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time. The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently.
“We have to find a new balance,” the pope continued, “otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.”
It's not clear what his own views are exactly, but for now he's definitely telling the church to let people be.
The most surprising part about this for me, is that people are surprised, what was expected? I have no idea where people got this image of him as some new "liberal progressive" pope came from.

My girlfriend was the result of a teen pregnancy and her dad tried to convince her mom to get an abortion.
Kinda scary to think my girlfriend could of ended up being just another abortion at a clinic
There's that chance, and there's the chance they'll be taken by some old abusive couple (such as my neighbors) who adopt kids for the money and treat them like shit. Occasionally we've had to offer a bed to some of the kids because the fat bald dude looking after them is majorly pissed off.
So you gonna go ask those kids if they wish they had never been born? I mean, not just when they're hurting, but full blown suicidal. Chances are they're going to say no. It's hard for them, sure, but it'd take some serious shit for them to think that way. Sad to see it happening, but you should also take into account what they want.
I'm no stranger to getting treated like dirt as a kid, but I've never regretted being born. Anyone who says it would have been better if I was aborted because of that can go fuck off.
Again, I'm pro-choice. Only saying you should look at the whole picture.

Is this an ad for Pine-O-Cleen™?
Despite me not agreeing with his stance on abortion, I really like how "dramatically" different this pope is. In terms of PR, all he's doing is taking an "eh" or "let them do that as long as they don't kill people" stance on things and that already makes him a billion times better than all of the old popes combined. He's still a conservative catholic, but he's doing a damn good job at getting his rep up. Goes to show how far NOT being an asshole about everything can get you.

He's making the ultra-conservatives tear their hair out, which is great

I'd buy a Glade air freshener named "The Gospel"; sounds better than what I currently use
What the hell is "clean linen" supposed to smell like anyway
All you tossers who suddenly 'hate' him because he is against abortions are just as stupid as the people who go out having sex purely because there's emergency pills and abortions available.
First up, Nobody uses Abortion as a contraceptive, abortions are painful and in some cases even very expensive.
Secondly, whats wrong with having sex and how does it make you stupid?
Don't get knocked up as a teen just because you can get an abortion later. Use a fucking condom. Applying throwaway culture in human lives is disgusting.
I don't know anyone who would rather get an abortion, than use a condom in the first place. Abortions can be expensive and frustrating experiences; and I don't think any teen would rather go through that than just use a condom.

Pregnancy and child birth are expensive and frustrating experiences as well, yet teen mothers exist
I don't think any teen would rather go through that than just use a condom, but that's how the world works
I don't mind his stance, He is catholic after all.
Really the rest of his actions have made him a relatively better person than his predecessors.

That doesn't work though because everyone has different definitions of what the word necessary mean. "I'm for unnecessary abortions" said no one ever.
There just shouldn't be a pro-life/pro-choice debate. Abortion should be a standard medical procedure carried out between a pregnant woman and her doctor. It's really that simple.

Absintence-only sex education, poor decisions (like alcohol), difficult access to contraception... there are reasons other than "can't be assed to care before fucking" that factor into the teen pregnancy rate.

This shit still a thing? Dang, gurl, that's stupid.
Science fact: Kids. Are gonna. Fuck. Best tell 'em how to do it right if you wanna avoid teen pregnancies.

Welcome to Utah, and some other areas. Under the GW Bush era, it was made mandatory if schools/districts wanted to receive federal funding. That's been rescinded (I think?) but some states were doing it anyway.
Kids who've learned everything they know from sneaking onto Internet porn are out there and fucking. And here we are with a teen pregnancy problem.
Pregnancy and child birth are expensive and frustrating experiences as well, yet teen mothers exist

You are massively over simplifying the issue. There is far more to it than "lol cant be bothered to dig up a condom but i want teh d"-
For example, My girlfriend is allergic to a chemical used in spermicide, meaning even latex-free condoms will give her a nasty and painful reaction, so she uses the pill instead, easy right?.
Now take into consideration some peoples backwards views on sex, and how living in a household that subscribes to these particular views might effect a young woman's chances of getting hold of contraceptives, now its suddenly not so easy.
Now take into consideration many teens have very little grasp on how sex actually works because the sex-ed they got in school was literally "sex is a very naughty thing that makes god cry big angry tears and you will never speak of this again until u get married have- fun kids".
there are hundreds of different unfortunate situations and scenarios of varying severity that could put someone at increased risk of an unwanted pregnancy, and its not fair to force them to commit to a lifestyle they don't want or literally cannot make work financially because its easier to assume they were just a lazy skank who couldn't wait for a rubber.

you'd be surprised at how crazy people are :v:

No i really wouldn't, i know the type trust me.
if anything that's just another example of how complex reasons for abortion can be, Shitbag boyfriend pressures young girl into unprotected sex, yet another terrible situation a woman could find herself having high chances of an unwanted pregnancy without her own negligence at fault.
The pill also has medical uses onther than stopping you from getting pregnant, many girls I know are on it simply for the fact that it relieves period symptom.
Then again my view on abortion is, unless it's a medical neccecity it's entirely the choice of the mother to be, for whatever reason, whether the pregnancy is unwanted, or they wouldnt be able to raise the child well, or even if they'd end up being a single parent because the father of the child is a scumbag who won't be there for the child.
To anyone who believes or thinks they have the right to tell a woman what they should do with their body, I simply say: Fuck off and Fuck you. Unless it's a medical reason and for the mothers safety.

Chances are you would have met someone else entirely. I see what you're getting at but trying to find meaning in the random string of events that led you to eachother is just magical thinking.

that and, if she was aborted, it kind of wouldn't matter, because he would have never posted that
if X didn't get into X tree 500 years ago, only to find X person and fall in love with X, X would have never been born!
Didn't Pope Francis come out in support of contraception? If so, at least he understands that people need to be able to protect themselves and that that kind of protection will avoid the need for abortions.

imo adoption is much better cause you can skip that baby phase shit and get straight to raising a child.
srsly fuck babies

Pity. Early pregnancy terminations are not an issue, late term ones are (if they don't endanger the mother or child or both).
It's only a matter of time until they start slaughtering protestants again.
The Pope holds CATHOLIC VALUES?! WHAT THE FUCK?
Man the pope defense force are working overdrive in this thread.
