Well, their structure seems very awesome, Would love to work there.
Either way I'm moving to Seattle and looking at every available job opening they may have.
Valve is best
if I could work at valve as merely a janitor for 13$/h, I happily would do it for a long time.
"Manager—The kind of people we don’t have any of. So if you see one, tell
somebody, because it’s probably the ghost of whoever was in this building
before us. Whatever you do, don’t let him give you a presentation on
paradigms in spectral proactivity."
Empty Shelf on Fifth Floor - Place we're planning on putting all those awards for Ricochet once the gaming world finally catches up with it
Hence why Valve is so Successful compared to the corporate seriousness of Electronic Arts.
"What if I screw up?
Nobody has ever been fired at Valve for making a mistake." = The 1# Rule to a Successful Business.
Guys, what if it is fan-made or fake
Fuck
Bit late there Starpluck
A good 3 hours late.
You know you're slightly different from other people when you're more excited over the structuring than the week-long company vacation.
This just confirms how awesome Valve is.

In an entirely different subforum. We don't close news threads because it was already posted to a different subforum, or else most of the News Node would be closed.
The thing that's so lovely about valve is that, despite their lovely, friendly, nigh-on-huggable approach to their employees and their fanbase, all of this stuff actually works
At the end of the day, their loose and friendly atmosphere frequently outperforms rigid and totalitarian companies like Activision and EA in terms of the quality of games they produce (and, I expect, financially too)
OHH yeah. Gabe made TF2 FREE to play and somehow made MORE money off of it.
I don't care if I clean toilets there for the rest of my life, I would still love working at Valve.

I love valve :v:
They really love hats

Something tells me that in like 4 or 6 years Activision will shut down and valve will be richer than EA and Activision combined

But a man can dream
I read this last night, I love how its in typical Valve humour. I had actually been wondering how they worked as a company to be honest.
Explains so much though, no wonder TF2 hats are all that is made if they get to chose what to work on.
if only other companies took example of valve's sucsess and how the operate.
We would be already living in one

That's so cool
I had dreams of working at Valve when I was a kid but I realized the amount of math skills and practice required for anything that has to do with making games was too daunting and discouraging for me.
The Glossary is amazing.
Fishbowl—The conference room by the lunchroom. The one with a big
glass wall. Don’t let the name throw you—we don’t actually use it as a
fishbowl! Except, of course, on Fishbowl Fridays, where we fill it up with ten
thousand gallons of putrid saltwater so that all the manta rays and sharks
will have something to breathe while they fight to the death. You won’t see
it in your list of benefits, not because it isn’t fun, but because it is illegal.
Parking Garage Elevators—Autonomous hostage-taking devices with a will
of their own. Beware.
The glossary is hilarious

I'm a student in game design, and even for me and my peers who have developed the skills for programming and design it's a daunting and discouraging goal. EVERYONE wants to work for Valve. To get a job there you need to have serious skills and a ton of industry experience, and even then it's almost a matter of luck as they're not always hiring.
Working for Valve is the goddamn holy grail of the games industry.

The problem is as they say is that you have to start from day one like this, hiring the right people etc.

In all fairness, they did have an item that cost about as much as TF2 did at the time.
Best. Company. Ever.
Seems like at valve you need to be good at multiple skills and at least be very very good at one looking at all the Eric's presentations about Portal 2
