If you're already in a mansion, why not go the extra mile and shoot for a castle?
Why again does the internet hate Notch?
Why again does the internet hate Notch?
The internet hates other people on the internet who became successful because of it
I think it's more because notch putting the word "programmer" to shame with his abysmal coding skills, before jeb took over it was a small miracle it even started when you clicked the program.
I think we could have labelled the reasoning behind Minecraft functioning at all to one thing: Magic, I mean, even after it was pretty much re-coded a bunch of times, it still has huge performance issues
Say what you will about Garry, he didn't have a cribz like showing off of his money and all his properties.
Wow, he sounds like he is having a lot of problems. Having to be divorced and having half of his things taken from him, having his father commit suicide, having a bunch of people which he does not know just talk shit about him day in and day out on forums across the internet just for doing what he loves - programming.
I would offer him a hug if I ever met him. There is always another, deeper, and sometimes more tragic level to every story.
9/11? pretty funny
holocaust? hillarious
school shootings? bucket of laughs?
Notch had a sad dad? muh feels oh god never making fun of notch again oh god
I will never understand why some things get chosen as sacred over the others now

Because we as humans are usually fucking stupid.
EDIT: Also because probably we are able to relate to him in the sense that he is human, and he as feelings, desires, dreams, and basic needs too.
seriously yeah I understand that must be hard but everyone's actin' here like this is sadder than bambis mother being raped by hitler or something
seriously yeah I understand that must be hard but everyone's actin' here like this is sadder than bambis mother being raped by hitler or something
Probably because everyone is feeling like they were wrong to write him off as a fat, complacent, and lazy person when really he was having to deal with a lot of really difficult problems. They feel like they judged a man based on the little they knew of his personal life and are a contribution to the enormous weight pressing down upon him.
I don't think being famous doesn't help much with that, either.
[sp]Basically people are feeling guilty for being dicks. [/sp]
EDIT: Also, never knew before reading this thread that his father committed suicide.
I remember notch once donated like 1k to a charity thing and got listed as a top contributor, so Garry donated 1001 dollars.

Or maybe people who make boastful claims and never deliver? People who flatout lie and never deliver?
Notch isn't the only one that gets picked on for this you know. People like Peter Molyneux get quite a bit of criticism for his empty words as well.
On all accounts, while he of course deserves the criticism for not delivering, all accounts I've heard of Molyneux is that he's incredibly passionate about his work, and it's his enthusiasm that makes him make grand statements that he can't possibly hold up to. I think he's slowly starting to realise this, if his last Kickstarter is of any note.

I kinda feel bad for making too much "DURR HURR VACATION TIME" jokes at Notch. Sounds like he's had a pretty rough time.
The jokes aren't even based on recent things, though even before all of this went down, well before, I think it was late 2011-2012, where he literally had more Vacation days than days he was actually working
well after that last tweet he might be getting some of his creative juices flowing again

I'll go out on a limb and say it's terraforming for 0x10c
maybe meteorite drilling or something
So why did Notch's father commit suicide?
So why did Notch's father commit suicide?
I doubt he really gave much detail on such a personal matter.
Here's a blog post he wrote about his father committing suicide:

His father committed suicide in December 2011, apparently his dad relapsed on drugs and alcohol.
I wonder how he feels knowing he already made his Crown Jewel, And all other projects won't sell as good as Minecraft.

Because laughing about distant simbolical things is edgy, it questions social norms and moral principles. It makes you cool.
And laughing about Notch's sad dad and divorce is kinda pointless, really. So one can show his sympathy. Or pretend that he has is.

One's a single person and it's easy to relate to, the other is a mass thing that's really hard to comprehend.

It's kind of funny how you mock him for being ~so edgy~ in a statement that I can't really find the edginess to, when you're the one being ~so edgy~, both in your first sentence and then your second. Better get the band-aids ready for those cuts.
“I definitely think Minecraft is a freak thing,” he said. “There’s no way you could replicate it intentionally. And yes, I’m starting to feel writer’s block as a result. I’m not sure if it’s pressure to repeat… Actually, it is the pressure to repeat. And with Minecraft it was just easier, because nobody knew who I was. Now I post a new idea and millions of people scrutinize it. There’s a conflict between the joy of being able to do whatever I want and the remarkable pressure of a watching world. I don’t know how to switch it off.”
A pen name. Problem solved.
Once you have gotten a ways into it and find that people are enjoying it, then poof, reveal your true identity and gain a bunch of free press from gaming news outlets. Gain enough money to build an entire city made of money to surround the money castle minecraft has provided.
His pen name could be groove. Or crack. Or crevice. Or somebody please stop me because I'm going to keep doing this all night now. Or scratch. Or indent.
Damn, Never knew his dad off'd himself. That's terrible to go through something like that.
