At least with other games the DLC is worth it (ME2) or you can gain it using other means (TF2).

Playing ascension just to do it's story can be fun, although frustrating. I like how they put it in, and it took people awhile to figure it out. But it's not worth 15 bucks. Not on the pc. I don't think the modding tools are coming, and if they do, the map making will be limited, or only for private non-xp games.
