Sorry for the grammar mishap. Eloah doesn't have female anything, but Elohim does.
No, "im" is a male plural suffix.

Also, don't quote that "choose" statement out of context. It doesn't mean choose as in choose, not always. It can also mean "Choose into existence." Every word in Hebrew has a few meanings that can be entirely different.
The only meaning I know for "Bara" is "Created", not "chose to create", that's the only meaning showed in the dictionary (as well as other synonymous of creation etc'). I would like you to show me your source for that.

See my edit.
It is true that, just like in English, Arabic and Hebrew have words who have more than one meaning. I don't know (do you?) whether that specific word who was translated into "beat" has more than one meaning. However, since those who translated the verse were fluent Arab speakers, with an in-depth understanding of the Quran and the language's nuances, we can trust them to translate the verse correctly, with the fitting meanings etc'.
bara is a primitive root meaning "create," "choose," and "to become fat"
It's mostly used as a word to mean "create"
I crossreferenced Strong's Concordance with established different forms of the word. (As Strong groups all forms of a word together, which is pretty terrible.)Both in the Old Testament's grammatical and cultural context, it does mean "create." In form and context, it MAY also mean "choose" in the sense of "choose into existence."
I was only making a note. I never argued its primary definition as "create."
Where do you take these meanings from? As I said... the only definition I know, and that appears on Avraham Even-Shoshan's dictionary that is on my desk right now is "created".
Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, but factoring in context (Strong doesn't)
[editline]30th March 2011[/editline]
The word has different forms. As a Qal verb, it means "to choose into existence," or really just "to create"
But in as a Pial verb, it means "to cut down"
As Hiphil, it means "To make fat"
As it's used in Genesis 1:1, it DOES mean "to create," and I never argued this. It's just a note about the different forms of the verb.
Alright, lets make some order:
First of, for reference: read this
Basically, Hebrew verbs are divided into 7 categories of conjugation. To determine to what conjugation a verb belongs to, it needs to be broken down to a usually three-letter "root". In Hebrew, a root is a bunch of letters that usually appear at every declension of the verb (although there are special cases).
The root for "Bara" (ברא) is ב.ר.א. or, "B.R.A." -but that's also the root of other words. We usually can determine in which one of the "Binyanim" (kal, hephil, etc' - read the wiki article) the discussed form of the verb is at, looking at the vowls, etc'. "Bara" is a "pa'al" (="kal") form, and at this form, it only mean "[He]created"
Using the same root in "hiphil" form, makes it "Hivri" (הבריא) which is a totally different word, with a different meaning, and doesn't mean "to make fat", but "[He]got cured/better". I don't know any word with the "piel" form of the root.
Hope that was clear. By the way, that's what I study at school right now.
Also, I don't understand how to use to the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible thingy. Can you give a direct link or something?
I know all of this. I was just making a note on the root, not the word.
But you are wrong... can you speak Hebrew? If you can, lets discuss this on PM.
