• PREPARE TO DIE: Dark Souls coming to PC in August

I play every single player game with my Xbox controller (unless it's arma or an RTS), I only use my mouse when playing competitively in an FPS. I find I enjoy games much more when I can sit back and play instead of hunching over the keyboard.
Hardest boss :v:
Gwyn is the final boss, the hardest boss is debatable. For spell casters/pyromancers, some bosses with high magic/fire resistance are close to impossible, but if they don't they are easy peasy. Melee/faith fighters have it at the same difficulty peak with bosses. Rogue/ranged/critical strike users can kill humanoid targets and other players with ease, but most bosses will trample them, so rogue characters destroy Gwyn without breaking a sweat. It comes down to what build you have to determine who is the hardest boss. Also another factor is how many people you have assisting you as well. Edit: In my opinion, the giant cats are the hardest enemies in the game. Edit 2: Nevermind, the wheel skeletons will cleave your asshole.
Guys, The game is great, Buy it
Been looking forward to this for a long while. I am ready to die.
If you had to restart everything every time I'd kill myself (Steel Battalion for Xbox had that, you die once and EVERYTHING, saves included, is deleted, that was hell considering the game was hard too).
Never got past the 4th mission I believe, twas a brutal game. The controller for that thing was awesome though. [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e7/Steel_Battalion_controllers.jpg[/img_thumb]
My wallet is ready.
At first I was excited. But then I realized that my computer will most likely explode when having to render the huge-ass levels and environments. And that it comes out in August. [editline]7th April 2012[/editline] And also it reminds me that my brother's friend stole our copy and I haven't been able to play it for like 3 months.
I can only imagine that the Facebook page's Wall Reveal is going to be DLC is for Xbox/PS3. Probably the extra bosses that the PC version will have.
Not enough hype? Here.
Time to buy a gamepad because this game would be a nightmare on keyboard & mouse
Quick question, can you play as a sort of lightly armored thief?
You can be whatever you fucking want to be. There are spells and rings in the game that can help mask your presence. But I'll save everyone some trouble and say this... Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring is not the same as the spell Hush. Hush will actually make you less noticeable than the ring. Ring of Fog is also not the same as Hidden Body. Hidden Body will make you less noticeable than that ring. How do I know? Bonewheel skeletons.
Is it bad that I don't know what Dark Souls even is?
Is it bad that I don't know what Dark Souls even is?
Yes.
is there some kind of trick to enjoying these games? i tried playing demon's souls but i found it insanely unenjoyable
obligatory "we already died waiting"
How's the storyline for this game? A lot of the things I ever see and hear about it are the bosses and enemies and difficulty.
How's the storyline for this game? A lot of the things I ever see and hear about it are the bosses and enemies and difficulty.
All the dragons die and theres a skeleton made out of skeletons.
All the dragons die and theres a skeleton made out of skeletons.
Sounds like a moving tale. I'm in!
How's the storyline for this game? A lot of the things I ever see and hear about it are the bosses and enemies and difficulty.
The story isn't handed to you. If you really want to get in on the lore I suggest reading the Wiki and what not.
I feel like I'm going to get this game saying "It can't be that hard!" and end up putting my fist through my monitor.
I feel like I'm going to get this game saying "It can't be that hard!" and end up putting my fist through my monitor.
Most enemies feel fair, so it's not that bad. Then there are a few that make you FUCKING PISSED. Like the kind of enemies that charge you, keep hitting your shield while you watch the stamina drain and they won't stop so you start sweating and they just keep rolling against your shield pushing you back and your stamina is depleting until your shield is knocked out of the way and you try to get away but they keep rolling against you draining your health fast as fuck and they keep staggering you so you can't move and get away and then FUCK
PC has trainers :v:

It's okay, you're on Facepunch now. They can't get you. They can't get us.
Please tell me Dark Souls is multiplayer, and I will buy it.
Please tell me Dark Souls is multiplayer, and I will buy it.
Of course it is. Multiplayer is quite an important part of it. Raiding someone but then finding out they're cheating will suck.
Sounds like a moving tale. I'm in!
It's a game adaptation of a death metal album cover.

On my first playthrough, I killed him on my first try, but since then I've consistently found him a massive pain in the ass. He himself isn't really the problem, it's that you fight him in an absurdly confined space with those two asshole dogs backing him up...
The thing that makes Dark Souls so good is the fact that it's an almost perfect marriage between RPG skill and stat systems, and melee combat. If you have low strength but find a rare big bad-ass sword, you'll totally fucking slaughter with the sword... but you'll swing it so slow and with such effort that it's actually better to use lower-end items until you are good enough to use the sword. It doesn't have "leveled loot" in that sense, you literally just find really good stuff every now and then - question is, if you can properly use it with your skills, and thats where the balance comes in. It doesn't magically cause all high level items to disappear until you are high enough level, or doesn't force you to not wear/use them either. It makes it so you actually use something bad if you don't have good enough skill. Mix that with the fact that all weapon types have benefits and weaknesses in certain situations, and you have some of the best RPG combat ever made. Big greatswords are terrible in close quarters due to the fact that it will hit on the walls and negate your ability to deal effective damage, but spears are excellent in tight spaces because you literally just stab. Armor types determine what you can do (roll, etc) if you are good enough in skill to fully use the mobility an armor can provide. Combat requires tactics and placement to do well, as everything is somewhat simulated in where your hits land. Combat itself as such, with all the above combined, feels very tacticle. It's too the point where the enemy situations, numbers, strengths, etc can completely change the tactics required to play. And because of that, when you die (which is very possible), its less because of the game (and isn't frustrating because of that), and more because of an actual calculated mistake in combat you made. Dieing is fun, and an integral part of the game. Mixed with the fact that when you die, you lose all your souls you got from killing enemies (which is used from everything to buying new spells/items, to leveling your character up) and lose your "humanity" (required for certain things and you get certain bonuses when human), you've got a very addicitng and rewarding game. It's the most successful western RPG formula and design to come out in YEARS, and yet it's not made in the west, and was under the radar of most people.
This is in the top 5 games I've ever played, and I don't even like RPG games that much. Just fucking buy this game. You'll never find a more hard, but rewarding and fair game.
The game isn't THAT good. Get's pretty boring and frustrating IMO. Even though they are very similar I liked Demon's Souls more, the map design and atmosphere was better.
Please tell me Dark Souls is multiplayer, and I will buy it.
In a way, it's only multiplayer. As long as you have internet connection you are always in MP. The system is not the most straightforward one, but it's kinda like a net formed by players, when the threads intertwine is when you see the ghosts of other player in your world (basically you are seeing what they are doing in their world) or see their bloodstains (AKA their last moments before they die). Some covenants bring players closer together in the net, some do the opposite (I think). There's a shittonne of online weirdness like that, to the point of being a pain to learn. For example if you drop a weapon on the ground in your world and it stays there long enough, it will break into another player's world as a Vagrant and attack that player (the strength of the Vagrant and the quality of the item dropped depends on how long the item stayed on the ground in your world).
