The west are only making things worse bombing civilians half the time but marking them as "suspected insurgents".
um.
major hyperbole.
nuke the land, take the oil, and sell them supplies to rebuild their own nation.
usa way

You'd be surprised at the amount of people who don't read the articles posted in these threads.
As somebody who works for the American embassy in Conakry, this stuff frightens me.

US embassies are the targets of terrorists everywhar.
Embassies are in general
Just want to put it out there. Those are Afghan National Army troops. Not Americans or anything like that. Most people don't know so I thought I'd add that. I think it's a stock image. They're friendlies. It looks like they're getting ready to go to the range, or learning something, moving something, I don't really know but the caption about a damaged vehicle is ridiculously wrong.
All I see is a damaged bus thing with "Takbeer International School" on the side. Am I missing something here?
[editline]13th September 2011[/editline]
I get the same bus when I click on the picture of the ANA troops with the browning... weird.
Westerners need to just get out of there and let them fight their own god damn war. Let them kill each other so there are less humans taking the planets resources. They are bred(brainwashed) to kill each other in the name of their gods.
Not all of them are like that, do some research.
I like how negative all of the news surrounding this is.
Yes, people died, but nobody bothers to mention that they completely failed to kill anyone who works at the embassy. Military defenders included. Even the number of people who died outside the embassy was remarkably small given the use of RPG's, kalashnikovs, and suicide vests.
Seems to me like a complete and utter failure to me. They launched a surprise attack of unprecedented proportions and failed to even remotely accomplish their objective.
But alas, the negative press will see a tactical victory turned into a strategic failure through the magic of terror.
I'm not saying we can't mourn the dead, but that doesn't preclude us from celebrating a victory.

What the fuck? There wouldn't be a war if we weren't there dumbass. Yeah, there will be rivaling factions for a long long time in the Middle East but that has been a problem for the past thousand years.

The absence of failure is a good marker of success - if none were injured it would be no news and no news is good news in this context. Though I agree somewhat, it's hardly a victory worth celebrating anyway.

Every victory is worth celebrating in a conflict against those who use terror as a weapon.
We really approach this all wrong.
9/11 shouldn't be a day of mourning, it should be another black Friday. A day people look FORWARD to. What better way to say "fuck you terrorist dickwads" than rampant pointless consumerism? :D
This terrorist attack should be met with a giant sign on the embassy wall that says "Missed, Fuckers". Followed by an awesome party.
The ONE scenario where our blind American bravado is the appropriate response, and we fail to deliver. I am disappoint, America.

I dunno, ten years of decimating villages with multi billion dollar technology is on about the same level of blind American bravado.

No, that is just senseless violence.
This a conflict that doesn't require much in the way of deaths, just lots of public humiliation.
We should never have killed Osama, we should have captured him and forced him to dress up like a clown and do kid's parties.
You fight terrorism with apparent indifference and bravado, not fear and full scale warfare. The proper response to a terrorist attack is "That's really all you've got?", not "We'll get you!". It is a conflict all about perception, not actual results.

I think terrorism on a global scale will be present regardless of American attitude, realistically. This will make me seem like a massive pussy but I think it's much more useful to go to the actual source and build infrastructure that allows only positive results, like building schools, community centres etc. Implementing governments will always have the chance that if and when something unfavourable is passed, blame will go straight back to those who set it up - America/Coalition of the willing/whoever.
Of course with such a divided and emotional public this will be impossible because you will be aiding the terrorists and that's evil and communist.

We've built a ton of schools in Iraq and Afghanistan. Can't cite any actual numbers but they're there.

Yeah that works great until you try to teach girls at said school.
Then they blow it up.

I know, I'm just saying I think it's a more useful way to solve a social problem than all out military assaults are. I'm not trying to say I'm pioneering the idea, I just support it.
