50's or 60's actually. And not because of not having AC, because of poor medical care. People died from the flu and shit.
The elderly and infants do sometimes die of heat strokes.
In 1997 my family didn't have a refrigerator, we had a cooler that we filled with ice every day.
There are plenty of poor families out there that are in the same predicament. Luckily the cost of technology has gone down so more and more poor families can get such essentials.
What 25% of them have dishwashers? I wouldn't call myself poor and even I don't have a dish washer
washing dishes by hand builds character :v:
This seems to be a common thought with Republicans, my brother in law is one, and he firmly believes that you are only poor if you were laid off from a respectable job and don't use Welfare. Anyone that was laid off from like, Walmart or something or uses welfare with they still have a job. He says they're just leaching off the United States. Oh, and he's a Glenn Beckky.
These things are so inexpensive. I would hope even 99.6% of poor Americans can afford refrigerators.
I wonder if that counts the homeless.

So was fox news hopping that most of the poor have to find, hunt and kill there food instead of being able to refrigerate it?
Guys don't be surprised about this Stuart Varney is literally Grand Moff Tarkin from Star Wars.
News Flash: Poor people have internet access too!
Well to be fair, most of the poor people with I know with internet are just using their higher up neighbor's wifi.

Well compared to the poor in other nations, American poor are very well off.
Those stats are pretty broad. They don't say anything about the age, quality, and cost of said "luxuries". TV's aren't very hard to come by, especially old tube TV's, since people are practically giving them away. Working computers are a little harder, but I'm sure in more populated cities, they are being tossed all the time. Cell phones are prevalent in even 3rd world countries. Get a cheap RAZR and a cheap pre-paid plan, and bam, cheap cell phone.
All this really means is that the living standard in the US is going up. Comparatively, they are poor to the average American, but they are actually pretty well off compared to many 3rd world countries. Still, doesn't mean they don't have any problems though.

Not only that but even if you can afford only cans I'm sure you can spend a month to save for a fridge, plus don't they come with most homes anyways? If I could only afford cans and maybe a little TV, cheap rent, with very tiny amount of extra, and lets say I JUST don't happen to have a fridge, I'd sure as hell save for a fridge!
I also love how they act like a video game console is some extremely high end luxury as if it were some expensive computer or heck even sports car or something. Heck there are also plenty of offers and promos that can get you a free xbox 360.
Fox News:
Man, back in the Middle Ages poor people lived in a shack made of straw and lived in a pool of their own shit. And today poor people are complaining? Preposterous!
I did like the fake British dude's reaction to the other dude's response when he said "That's quite different than it was two years ago?".

Yeah, apartments come with refrigerators and stoves usually. At the least the ones I've looked at did.

Nope it was "poor households"
If you don't have a house, you're not counted.
Yeah, apartments come with refrigerators and stoves usually. At the least the ones I've looked at did.
Basically debunking that ENTIRE statistic...
from what I understand only homes build specifically with nothing in it would not have a fridge or stove, unless they were stolen, or their electricity/gas isn't installed.
Unless you live in the 1930's, where fridges were far less common, you're very likely to have one anyways.

Fox News is basically the "whiny grandpa" made into a news station.
"You kiddos don't know how good ya have it nowadays! When I was a kid, we didn't have groceries, we had to eat metal spikes and fire! Damn liberal pukes ruining America!"

At the risk of sounding dumb I don't really see what is ridiculous about these particular fox clips. They're just quoting a study, they weren't suggesting the poor shouldn't have those things or anything.

It was the notion that having those small things made you not poor. Did you notice how for the image of "% have a TV", there were two flatscreens shown? Implying that poor people have flatscreens, or nice tv's. The same was done likewise through out the piece. It was the implication that being poor is less painful these days then it once was, and that perhaps, the poor aren't doing so badly.
is this the case? No.
Fox News is full of contradictions.
its a real juicy contradiction.

Notice the quotes around "poor" in the clip. They don't seem to believe that they are actually poor.
