Fuck yeah! Suck it tea-sipping motherfuckers!
had an american come to our hospital trying to blag free blood tests, turns out she had to pay upwards of £600 because she wasn't entitled to them. Probably because the UK government is more efficient with its expenditure than the US (government expenditure is included in GDP, and apparently the US spends the most per capita on healthcare when they have a laughable healthcare system?), and also maybe because inequality is not as high in the UK as the US, so even though GDP per capita might be higher in the US, the average person in the US might have less real income than the average person in the UK. The US would also be a big exporter (net exports are the final part of GDP - and returns on exports would go to companies first, not the average person) and especially given that the US restricts importations of motor vehicles among other things more so than other countries, while the UK probably has a trade deficit which would lower its real GDP. This article would be embarrassing to even a student who's only ever done high school economics.
If this were to happen, Washington would be rolling in his grave from hysterics.
At least we would be the state with the lowest gun crime.
I love how the British users suddenly became so offended :v:
I like to fantasize that the quality of life is somehow better in the UK than "Kansas, Alabama and Missouri", regardless of what comparisons of adjusted GDP per capita may imply. -edit As an afterthought, I'd like to see comparisons of educational quality between the 4. I bet there are fewer pregnant teenagers in the UK too.
Why the fuck would Britain join the US. Is this even an idea people hold?
American Revolution The Sequel! Tea shall flood the Thames!
Actually the UK would be the 18th poorest state when it comes to GDP per capita, below Georgia and Above Ohio at $37,307
Wouldn't it also be the most populous state?
Wouldn't it also be the most populous state?
as well as technically the oldest?
I bet there are fewer pregnant teenagers in the UK too.
That's another comparison that doesn't really work out straight, I'd assume there are fewer teen mums in the UK, but the trade-off is massive abortion statistics the US obviously doesn't have.
I like to fantasize that the quality of life is somehow better in the UK than "Kansas, Alabama and Missouri", regardless of what comparisons of adjusted GDP per capita may imply.
quality of life is probably the same between uk and "kansas and missouri" source: i live there

I for one, would love the idea of the UK joining the USA. If you're gonna give me dumbs, please explain why you hate my opinion, thanks.
I for one, would love the idea of the UK joining the USA. If you're gonna give me dumbs, please explain why you hate my opinion, thanks.
Because you're better off in the European Union and its smart regulations (not guaranteed that those regulations would be retained if it became a state of the US) plus unrestricted trade between other EU members of which the UK is physically and economically close to. The US is just so backwards; in accounting alone, companies can reduce their tax liability by using LIFO inventory management which is illegal in pretty much the rest of the world, and the US is also one of the very few nations which does not use international accounting standards.
I for one, would love the idea of the UK joining the USA. If you're gonna give me dumbs, please explain why you hate my opinion, thanks.
Although we speak the same language, our ideals and even our constitutions are based off completely different concepts and morals. On some matters our governments are literally opposed to each other. As much as our Prime Ministers seem to live riding the US's cock, we really aren't that similar as nations- we're much closer ideologically to other EU countries.
Damn now we have to in crease that GDP by lowering taxes and privatising the NHS to keep up with the burgers/

If you think this is some serious personal slight then you need to grow a fucking backbone.) and now are taking it upon yourself to be a crusader of justice and chase all my posts rating them dumb, allow me to explain in detail: I like being British. If I wanted to live in America, I'd go move there. I don't see a single reason why we should merge with the US. It might be a nice country for some people but as an Englishman I don't see any reason why we should denigrate our heritage by merging with the country that was established as a direct antithesis to how we historically ran things. The two are separate entities for a very definite and clear reason. To add to that, there is nothing we would gain. Anything we could 'gain' by merging with the US we effectively already have, beyond easier immigration. Which wouldn't really benefit anyone in the long run and would just be a small perk and probably just pressure the US even more. Not only that, but the article was simply comparing how England has a much smaller economy than the US and its states. It wasn't proposing a merger or actually saying this as an idea, it was just a little fluff piece probably cooked up because there's shit-all else to report on. It's like those images that copy-paste Alaska's landmass into the US itself to show how large it is. It's not saying Alaska's going to merge with the US, it's just a little tid-bit made to make you go "Oh, Hmmm!". This is why I disagree with your opinion. I think it's stupid to consider the UK merging with the US. If you think I have some personal slight against you and am hiding it behind ratings, then you obviously need to grow up, chum.
You know Alaska is already part of the US right? :v:
I do. I'm referring to the images where they superimpose Alaska over the US to show its landmass in comparison to North America's. Those images are exactly the same thing, it's not a proposition that Alaska hover up and slam into America like a double-decker.
Not culturally.

So is this telling us that America is terrible with money?
So is this telling us that America is terrible with money?
Where did you read that? Lol
Even if it's true I'd much rather live in the UK. Or any of those other countries which seem to actually care about the well being of it's citizens.

And if the USA joined us we'd rename New York Chiddingfold-upon-sea
