Fuck no Keep /r/babyelephantgifs, and then nuke the rest of the site.
sorry for the off topic, but what anime is that from?
I hate video games now, I hate the industry, I hate the "journalism", I hate the people, I hate the communities, and how everything has been revealed to be this big retarded conspiracy, a monster made of dicks and pussies fucking itself and tromping over everything in sight.
I've managed to sit out pretty much all of the video game related controversy by distracting myself with video games. :v:
I'm cynical and I refuse to join a side other than my own or inform myself on the matter because nobody has actually tried to engage me or tried to give me any reason to side with anyone. Instead all I've seen is a bunch of piss-poor pathetic keyboard warrioring that has just made me hate both sides with equal scorn and made me decide that "they're all arseholes, so fuck 'em". This argument honestly doesn't even matter to me, and I don't know why I draw back to it. Maybe I'm that much of a narcissist that I have to express my view, or maybe I just love a pointless internet scrap. Either way, this entire thing makes me feel soberly depressed (ironic considering the center of it is a game that so horribly skews the perception of depression and represents utterly nobody who's depressed.) considering I've fallen into self-destructive and belligerent behavior like this before. It's like seeing a ghastly reflection of myself, and maybe that's again borne out of the narcissism I've been so deathly afraid of being stricken with. Maybe I'm just taking it too seriously and far too much to heart subconsciously. Either way this entire thing makes me upset and I feel better if I rage against the machine in a hollow manner that I can fire and forget. I don't think that this applies to real movements, by the way. Comparing it to Martin Luther King Jr. is just absolutely heinous, man.
I was using the mass movement as an example, not the actual movement itself if you read the last line. Also, that's fine, you can be your own side, this sort of shit shows that you need to think for your own but to stand there and insult others because they take this seriously and are actively engaging with it in their own way seems to make your stance sound extremely hollow.
Jesus this entire thread has become a "lol look at these nerds for caring about something they love" circlejerk. Newsflash: You're on a gaming forum and you're commenting too dickheads.
Whats strange is that in games media and twitter we're seeing people who write about games and actually make games say shit like this. Hell, Max said something like that a while ago in the corruption megathread.
I hate video games now, I hate the industry, I hate the "journalism", I hate the people, I hate the communities, and how everything has been revealed to be this big retarded conspiracy, a monster made of dicks and pussies fucking itself and tromping over everything in sight.
Chill out, take a note from Vivian James and just play video games.
That's kind of the whole point of an admin "shadowban", but if you contact the admins, they'll usually give a reason as to why they did it (these are generally only reserved for violations of the sitewide rules).
They were shadowbanning people en mass for the Quinngate thing with the reason "you were participating in a 4chan raid" which they then backpedaled to "you were participating in vote manipulation", all for simply upvoting threads about the mess
Wtf is with the reddit admins? Are they trying to kill off their site? First ignoring SRS even though they openly doxx and vote brigade. After that, during the beginning of Quinngate shadow banning left and right and now this?
One of the SRS mods has dirt on one of the reddit admins which is why that shithole is still around
*: mods in other subreddits can voluntarily opt to inform you of removals, but mods of larger subreddits generally don't do that, with few exceptions, especially if AutoModerator is configured to remove comments in a thread en masse for whatever reason. Bans however will always send a message, though some subreddits opt to use a "<subredditname>_mod" account, which would generally be for announcements, but can also be used to disguise who is banning you in some instances where shady stuff is going on. It is definitely a bit of bullshit that you have to view your post from a logged out session/another account to verify moderator removal though. There should be a little red "X" visible only to you to indicate that a mod removed it, as submitters can still see their comments in their original form.
It's to prevent spam bots from knowing if their stuff got removed IIRC
Reddit's upvote/downvote based system, with the highest rated comments on top, sort of encourages the famous reddit hivemind. Forums with a chronologically sorted posting system (facepunch, 4chan) encourage dissenting opinions and discussion more than reddit does. Though 4chan isn't where I'd go for real discussion. It's hard to tell what isn't an ironic anti-Semitic swipe, and what a real anti-Semitic swipe is. I prefer facepunch.
Reddit is pretty much dominated by super users because of their vote system.
IndieJuice has been informed that content manipulation for 3rd party profit is part of a much larger issue within Reddit’s internal posting and user relationship structure
Could mean that mods/superusers were/are paid to upvote/prfer certain content?
i like reddit but the admins are shit r/candidfashionpolice still exists, which is creepshots 2.0
The same admins that defended the original creepshots to the bitter end in the name of "free speech". Oh the irony.
It's to prevent spam bots from knowing if their stuff got removed IIRC
And guns were made to protect us from criminals :v:. It might have been made for that but it's abused now. TBH i think reddit is just one big shithole that needs to die. The way comments work is just awful, and if administration started to do shit like that, woah man, reddit users need to wake the fuck up and migrate. And to all people going "i dont care lol nerds", reddit is very popular, milions of people use it daily, manipulating ANY information on such a popular site is pretty much dangerous.
Chill out, take a note from Vivian James and just play video games.
Eh, I don't really enjoy them anymore as it is. I just don't have fun and all of this stuff adds on top of that. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, that's all.
Whats strange is that in games media and twitter we're seeing people who write about games and actually make games say shit like this. Hell, Max said something like that a while ago in the corruption megathread.
but did you actually see what max wrote and do you even know how much of a shitposter he is
Wtf is with the reddit admins? Are they trying to kill off their site? First ignoring SRS even though they openly doxx and vote brigade. After that, during the beginning of Quinngate shadow banning left and right and now this?
Ah yes, SRS, the real problem with Reddit. Not /r/watchpeopledie /r/CandidFashionPolice /r/greatapes /r/whiterights /r/sexyabortions, /r/niggers /r/jailbait /r/selfharmpics /r/picsofdeadkids /r/beatingwomen /r/CuteFemaleCorpses /r/photoplunder /r/SexWithDogs /r/TheFappening /r/beatingwomen2 /r/rapingwomen and the countless more bigoted, creepy, vote brigading subs over zealous sjws are literally a bigger problem than racism
Regardless of your mockery of the situation, Reddit is one of the largest and most popular websites on the internet and people rely on Reddit as a source of information. When information is being manipulated, the people who go on there are being manipulated as well and that's never a good thing.
if they're getting their information there then that's kinda their own fault? i don't think any sensible person would describe reddit as a reputable, unbiased source
Thanks for ignoring the entire point I made. My point was that I criticize it and I insult it because I see it as nothing but a load of back-patting that won't accomplish anything. Once again, if you're going to say "you don't want to find out or make a change in any way", then please illustrate what changes you are making, if you're supposedly a big part of this argument and an expert in the matter. What changes are YOU making then, if I, an outlier, am not? What changes can I make to follow your example? You aren't bringing me to your side, you're ostracizing me and making me revile you and vindicate my side further. This is the crux of the problem. Nobody wants to inform or actually converse, everybody just wants to reinforce themselves and pat themselves on the back.
I think the uncovering of IGF being a corrupt contest is somewhat important No? [editline]7th September 2014[/editline] Your attitude isn't devoid of backpatting either. You're acting awfully high and mighty here.
if they're getting their information there then that's kinda their own fault? i don't think any sensible person would describe reddit as a reputable, unbiased source
I think you missed the part where reddit is one of the top 50 most visited websites in the world. Whether you think it's someones fault or not, people go to reddit to consume content. I'm willing to bet most people don't even comment on stuff or even read comments because all they want to do is click news links, videos, pictures, and kill time when there is nothing to do in the office. I don't think laying the blame on the people who go there works.
but did you actually see what max wrote and do you even know how much of a shitposter he is
Oh everyone knows how much of a shitposter he is. I'm pretty sure if he fucks up again once his ban is up, he's gone for good. EDIT: And just to add actual discussion, apparently people who are submitting the IGF racketeering story to Reddit are getting shadowbanned.
Ah yes, SRS, the real problem with Reddit. Not /r/watchpeopledie /r/CandidFashionPolice /r/greatapes /r/whiterights /r/sexyabortions, /r/niggers /r/jailbait /r/selfharmpics /r/picsofdeadkids /r/beatingwomen /r/CuteFemaleCorpses /r/photoplunder /r/SexWithDogs /r/TheFappening /r/beatingwomen2 /r/rapingwomen and the countless more bigoted, creepy, vote brigading subs over zealous sjws are literally a bigger problem than racism
The whole site is a problem.
The whole site is a problem.
I wouldn't say the whole site, but yes, large parts of it are. There are perfectly safe and not-gross subreddits, you know.
I wouldn't say the whole site, but yes, large parts of it are. There are perfectly safe and not-gross subreddits, you know.
The fact that the admins know about the subreddits and don't do anything about them is pretty shitty. Especially for /r/CanidFashionPolice which is literally /r/Creepshots a sub that got them into a lot of shit last time, its like they don't care.
The whole site is a problem.
Yes, but SRS goes out of the way to make problems with other subreddits. Those listed (while bad) tend to stay in their own community.
I never really been on reddit, well, expect for lurking on /r/buildapcsales, but holyshit, those boards. I know plenty of people that use reddit that think 4chan is EXACTLY like that, but in fact, their site is.
http://www.reddit.com/r/picsofdeadkids This exists, but should you dare argue feminism, or god forbid post nekkid celebrities The site is run by fucking pedo creeps. I also forgot to mention, this is one of the creepy circle jerk subreddits. There are hundreds, if not thousands more.
I think I'm going to cry
People still use reddit? :v:
People still use reddit? :v:
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/reddit.com It's one of the biggest websites in the entire world.
Reddit is like a petri dish left out in the open, sure you might get some really cool stuff growing in it, but then it gets full of salmonella and Clostridium botulinum if youre really not careful. This site really needs some pencillin or bleach.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/reddit.com It's one of the biggest websites in the entire world.
That's disgusting.
