Wtf is with the reddit admins? Are they trying to kill off their site? First ignoring SRS even though they openly doxx and vote brigade. After that, during the beginning of Quinngate shadow banning left and right and now this?
You realize an admin has come out saying that SRS doesn't dox or vote brigade right? If they downvoted the posts they linked to it would defeat the purpose, SRS links to terrible posts that got upvoted.
lol you don't think garry has the ability to shadowban?
there have been some pretty shitty reasons for banning people and garry has publicity stated pretty much that the admins and himself are judge, jury, and executioner, so if they had a reason to shadowban, it'd be pretty outrageous for them to shadowban considering a. there isn't a lot of commerce to be made here and b. they're already not giving a shit about what people think of them cause at the end of the day it's garry's website.
Why don't people stop bitching about reddit being horrible and just stop using reddit all together??
I stopped using reddit when they shadow-banned my 4 year account for upvoting a #gamergate post
I stopped using reddit when they shadow-banned my 4 year account for upvoting a #gamergate post
That's quite bullshit. I was always so afraid to post in the Quinn threads because everyone that has done that have gluten shadow banned. If you guys think Facepunch mods are Nazis you should see Reddit threads about admins/mods accusing their power. They say they want to be like a government but if they censor everything about themselves being corrupt then it seems they are an authoritarian government.
Never heard of Facepunch using shadowbans, honestly. Before you say "That's the Point" I find it unlikely that we wouldn't know about the practice at all.
Facepunch has a silent ban system, if you're exceptionally naughty you'll be banned, and it wont show up on your ban record. It's usually to tell people to fuck off permanently. [editline]8th September 2014[/editline]
lol you don't think garry has the ability to shadowban?
If Facepunch has a shadowban system, I'd have been banned a long fucking time ago.
Facepunch has a silent ban system, if you're exceptionally naughty you'll be banned, and it wont show up on your ban record.
E: nvm, didn't read the edit. Clearly a joke.
I am tired. I am going to bed.

I don't think we have shadowbans, because we want to make it known when someone doesn't belong here.
lol you don't think garry has the ability to shadowban?
I seem to recall postal or some other mod saying that they did it to someone who was making dozens of alts after repeatedly getting permad. Maybe they were just considering it, or maybe I'm getting a bunch of events mixed up. Either way, I've managed a few community forums running on vbulletin, and the option to shadow ban existed, though we never let anyone but full fledged admins have access to it. It can be a very useful feature simply because it wastes a lot of time, but for mass use it's just dumb. Keeping bans up front in the way that facepunch does (usually) is by far the better way to go about things. Facepunch does, and definitely has, silently banned people. The couple of examples I can think of involve people who directly did something to piss off/antagonize Garry.
Every Reddit admin and mod has the ability to shadow ban and that's like the only bans ever being handed out. I've seen Garry publicly ban people and I'm pretty sure no mods can shadow ban plus banned people here can plea their case.
Moderators can only ban people from individual subreddits. Officially admins aren't really related to moderators of subreddits, but who knows what goes on in the shadows, especially with the bigger subreddits.
We have silent bans though, which is like the same thing?
That's disgusting.
Not really. Facepunch has a massive anti-reddit stigma, I notice. They hear about shock subreddits like /r/candidfashionpolice and the like, and assume reddit, in its whole and general entirety, is like that. Reddit literally has something for everyone. Some are awkward and having shoddy quality, but aren't anything necessarily bad. /r/makeupaddiction is where people share their creative works of cosmetics, or exert happiness with each other over it. /r/tf2 has people discussing TF2. /r/sex is a sex-positive subreddit for people to discuss, well, sex, in an open minded environment. /r/funny is literally LMAO Pics. Ask other reddit users about those terrible subreddits. They're on board with you, saying "yeah, a bit ridiculous how they ban some but keep those." That high traffic isn't for all those disgusting, offensive subreddits. It's for the varied, open, and decent subreddits. Yes, they exist, too.
Anyone that thinks "reddit is awful" and etc are honestly just stupid kids who have never used it lmao. It's like 4chan. you're going to find shit if you go looking for it. Facepunch? Grats, this is a website full of fucking children, stupid radical feminists, and other stupid shit. Facepunch could be considered worse in almost every way. While reddit is visited by millions and has subreddits dedicated to whatever you like, and content that is posted continuously. (Not everything is a repost either) There is a reason why no one knows facepunch and why everyone knows reddit, because it's a general purpose board and it's what you make of it. god reading the anti-reddit shit is just as cancerous as anything. as if fp is better in anyway lmao
I frequently browse reddit. Just unsubscribe from most of the shitty defauly subreddits and you'll be fine. Yeah, there's some pretty horrible ones, but you're never going to enter those unless you actively seek them out. You won't see a bunch of dead kids when browsing r/all. If anything I've had worse experiences on 4chan where all the filth just lays out in the open to rot.

I'm not bandwagoning and I speak for myself by experience.
I hate video games now, I hate the industry, I hate the "journalism", I hate the people, I hate the communities, and how everything has been revealed to be this big retarded conspiracy, a monster made of dicks and pussies fucking itself and tromping over everything in sight.
If I'll ever need a lyricist for a brutal death metal band I'll be sure to call you [editline]8th September 2014[/editline] back on topic, what subreddits did this happen in? Because some (ie the great majority of the 'suggested' ones) are circlejerks and nothing good ever comes out of them.
I have used Reddit for months before getting fed up with their circlejerking community and godawful administration. I'm not bandwagoning and I speak for myself by experience.
And fp doesnt have this? Ignore the posts.

Second, sites like FP and even 4chan of all places still have very basic boundaries that they're not willing to cross, despite all the stupid shit posted in various sections of both sites. For example, 4chan, despite its supposed history of being a haven for CP, actually nukes any of it off the site as soon as a moderator can notice it. Beyond that, a lot of the site besides /b/ has decently-strict guidelines into what is and isn't allowed, and most of the heinous shit you see in the awful subreddits people listed is a no-go on those 4chan boards. FP also disallows CP, while disallowing a shitload of other unsavory garbage at the same time and having a competent staff that quickly deals with issues. Same deal as 4chan, with specific restrictions in specific places and site-wide bans and specific terrible content types, although FP completely nuked its own version of /b/ a long time ago (not counting Rust section). With both FP and 4chan, some of the most basic awful content is banned and people are expected to not be terrible in general. With both sites as well, the policing staff are mostly-decentralized, with some hanging around specific areas, but all of them having equal powers and the ability to deal with problems anywhere they're needed. They're also expected to all adhere to the same basic rules and standards of conduct on both sites. How does this relate to the thoroughly-horrible subreddits being called out? Simple, the subreddits lack a lot of (if not all of) these regulations and standards among staff. All moderators for a subreddit are added by the owner/other moderators, so the only rules they're obligated to follow are the owner's. That's fine for a standalone website, but not for a section of a massive sectional website with its own overseeing admins, since the subsection owner's opinions should logically be overridden by the full site owners'. Without control from the full site's owners, the moderators can be self-serving assholes all they want, as long as the subreddit owner allows it. Another thing is that there's no global policing of content, and thus no standards to adhere to for the whole site. It's too big in totality for the global administrators to handle, hence why subreddits each have their own staff groups. However, this allows for a subreddit's staff to be entirely out-of control and working together behind the scenes to allow or censor any content they wish. This results in subreddts that have all kinds of sick, disgusting content that cannot reasonably be policed by global staff, such as child porn, corpse images and rape victim abuse. It also results in mass censorship, as has been seen both recently and in the past. You might be thinking that the subreddit owners are the bad guys here, and the global site staff are helpless to stop them, right? Wrong. There have been lightning-fast takedowns of entire subreddits previously by global site staff, subreddits which featured this very kind of horrifying and/or highly-illegal content, or which just struck the wrong nerve. They're not incapable of putting a stop to this sort of thing rapidly and effectively on a mass scale, they just don't bother to unless it gets noticed by the wrong people and tarnishes the whole site's reputation. So as you can see, we have a decentralized moderation system, which allows for mass-nepotism and circlejerking on a level rarely seen, and we also have a total lack of control and regard for legality/good taste on the part of the global admins. It's not unfixable mechanically-speaking, but it's not going to get fixed with this extreme nepotism and apathy going on at both the highest and the lowest levels. In a way, 4chan and FP are objectively better than Reddit, at least in terms of content policing and staff trustworthiness. With both sites, the staff are at least global and expected to adhere to standards, and there are basic, well-enforced policies in place to prevent the harboring of disgusting and/or illegal content like CP. Reddit not only lacks both of those elements, it actively subverts them to the point of being a massive, nearly-uncontrollable clusterfuck of circlejerks, with the only ones able to bring global order just sitting back and watching it go on. TL;DR: Reddit is worse than both FP and 4chan because it actively breeds nepotism among staff, and is a haven for both biased censorship and horrific content being freely posted. Also, while its issues could easily be fixed, the only people with the power to do so don't give a shit, and possibly actively encourage it all behind the scenes. Source for all this info: Lurking and/or being a user on all three sites for years.
And fp doesnt have this? Ignore the posts.
No because ratings don't hide your post
First ignoring SRS even though they openly doxx and vote brigade.
except they don't and there's no evidence that they do.
Hellbanning use to happen more in 2005 - not so much now.
No because ratings don't hide your post
Ratings can affect how people respond to you. How often do you think a post that has more dumbs than other ratings is taken seriously? Ratings also don't add anything to any discussion.
The reddit admins literally do not care about the morality of anything on their site as long as it's legal, they allow subreddits like that, along with /r/beatingwomen, /r/picsofdeadkids, /r/rapingwomen is still around too, and there's also /r/theredpill which actively advocates raping women Then there's the neonazi and psycho subreddits like /r/greatapes and /r/anarchocapitalism (it isn't just that I think anarchocapitalists are scum, they talk about killing police and people who are against them a lot), /r/conspiracy, even something as innocuous as /r/worldnews is inundated with anti-semitism, sexism, and just general bigotry Reddit is a fucking shitheap of the internet, I only go there for the Two Best Friends Play subreddit and /r/carporn for wallpapers.
I had to Google r/raping women just becsuse I couldn't believe that was an actual subbed fit Holy shit
Reddit's upvote/downvote based system, with the highest rated comments on top, sort of encourages the famous reddit hivemind. Forums with a chronologically sorted posting system (facepunch, 4chan) encourage dissenting opinions and discussion more than reddit does.
But you can sort it by new, and "top" isn't even the default option?
Fuck no Keep /r/babyelephantgifs, and then nuke the rest of the site.
How about we just get rid of the shit instead of blaming the whole website?
FP shadowbans and shadow deletes are only done under strange circumstances. Like for instance, the thread where a guy found out where Garry lived and posted it. Or the guy who posted pics of Garry's GFs face in OIFY and they all ripped on her so OIFY got closed down(I think that's what happened). Or when CP was posted in OIFY. Or that dude Andy who had an extreme hate of Garry
