So... How does this prove that they're not making AAA games anymore? I heard that Nintendo is making a spinoff Pokemon mobile game. Surely that must mean that they won't make any mainline Pokemon games anymore, right? Square Enix put out Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO. Clearly that also means that both IPs are permanently dead. So, what, a company makes a spinoff product to make some money on the side. How does this prove the death of everything?
The Pokemon Company has not essentially sacked their game division and scrubbed Satoshi Tajiri from company history. Ubisoft has not burned down a Hitman revival that was already critically acclaimed at the public demo stage to the ground out of spite, then lost control over the engine made in-house specifically for their future AAA games. Neither has a current reputation so bad that the community at large actively dreads project announcements from them. This is not what confirmed the death of everything. It is just the smirking skull on the very top of the bone pile. Even if someone in the company somewhere wanted to continue AAA production, their resources and support for doing so have been destroyed. The people who made their AAA games are gone. The tools they used for their AAA games are gone. And, most importantly, any goodwill towards the concept of them even making a AAA game from their own fanbase is gone.
