Might seem kinda bad, but let's take a quick look at history, specifically the medieval ages, Europe, and specifically the Iberian peninsula. up until the reconquista in the 15th century, the Muslims controlled their fair share of land there starting from the 8th century I think. During their reign there non-Muslims had a relatively peaceful time, and gladly payed the Jizya mentioned in the passage (well, most of them). The Jews for example lived in Al-Andalusia better than any others in Europe, and the 14th century there was considered a golden age for them. They enjoyed religious freedom, and were not persecuted like their brothers living in other parts in Europe (Christian Europe). This peaceful time continued until the reconquista when the Christians conquered all of Iberia, and then started the Inquisition which killed a lot and forced many to convert or die, most of the Jews escaped to North Africa to still-Islamic lands. There were of course the odd violent acts against Jews but they were extremely rare considering what was going on in the rest of Europe. /rant
