OK. That may be true, but if you look at Islamic scriptures and what Islamic countries are like today, you will find some of the worst opression going.

Well I just wanted to say that history until the renaissance is in Islam's favor. From then on their power waned (Although the Ottoman Empire was very strong too up until WWI), and their scientific "advantage" was lost to the Europeans.

One could argue that if any religion is to expand rapidly across places where there are already substantial populations of people who have been practicing their own organised religon, it must practice some kind of religious freedom to be successful. Once it settles down for a few hundred years as was the case in Christian Medieval Europe, it has a phase of brutalising different religions. One must remember that Islam is 600 or so years newer than Christianity.

Maybe that's true, the same thing happened with the Mongolian Empire which was unexpectedly tolerant at it's time. But the Muslims came to Iberia in the 8th century and were still tolerant up until the reconquista in the late 15th century, that's 7 centuries of relative religious freedom.

I'm afraid that this has got nothing to do with the way Muslims are reacting now, though.
Just need to get them to be desensitized of seeing him.

If I save a bunch of children and puppies from a fire, but then start raping them, am I in any way exonerated from my actions? A foul barbaric cult is a foul barbaric cult, and has no claim to fame no matter what people have done in the past.
Still, I'm fairly knowledgeable in history, at least western world history, and I hate it when people say stuff like "religion is the plague of mankind" or "Islam sucks it should be destroyed" or "France is the pussiest country in Europe they surrendered in two world wars". These are extremely subjective points of view and they most certainly are made by people who don't know a bit about the issue they're discussing.
I agree this isn't related but anyone generalizing-bashing about religion is almost always making misinformed remarks.

Well let me just say this: In the medieval ages when most of the people followed the rules of their religion, Islam was more peaceful than Christianity.
Later on, in the western world people began not following Christianity and this lead to more liberty and freedom and technological advance, the Islamic world however didn't see much progress and today there are more religious Islamics than religious Christians (I think) which puts Islam in bad light.

There are more Christians in the world than Muslims. Also, Islam began to spread as a militaristic empire.
This isn't anything to do with terrorism. Most people automatically associate terrorism with Islam, but in this case it isn't anything to do with terrorists, it's just about freedom of speech.

If you read through the group pictures, it's just a bunch of extremely pissed off Muslims ranting how the holocaust didn't happen, and how Allah is going to make everyone who drew Muhammad pay.
