Google is building 180 satellites to spread internet access worldwide

even with google taking over the world it is still the best search engine out there
Google collects data because then it can sell it. Google then uses that money to drive innovations that will both improve lives and in turn generate revenue for them. I.e. google satellites collect data that benefits us such as maps, we use maps and google learns where we visit frequently, it then sells this data to another company that can then put up billboards or services on those routes to make money.
Google isn't evil, it's just a company out to make money. It's how it makes it's money and what it does with it that sets it out from other companies.
I find it funny how google wants to provide internet across the world using satellites and the most important thing FP is worried about is streaming twitch.
Where did you get that from? All he did was mention streaming to twitch, not that it was the one thing he'd think of using it for.

What do we question?

Most Smartphones are dropped in the toilet, lost under some random hook-up's bed or thrown as an act of violence in a row at one point or another.
6883391945759 HUMANS LOCATED. PROCEED WITH SEEK AND DESTROY. LOCATION : SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT.
What would most people likely be staring at through Google Glass?
Hoping for X-ray vision when viewing strangers butts.
Google Street view? Sometimes when going down the same street in a straight line, the images displayed vary from 2014, one frame later, to 2013, one frame later, to 2003, one frame later, to 2008.
What's hiding in Military bases?
too bad the laws of physics prevents it from ever being good for anything requiring low latency, but hey if its just for getting basic internet to the middle of africa, then its fine. but it'll never be able to stream twitch.tv
The laws of physics do not prevent sending stuff to low earth orbit and back from having any significant extra latency than sending it around the surface in fiberoptic cables.
The article says low earth orbit, which is something like 450km, which is insignificant compared to the distance things have to travel around the earth anyway.
If the satellites were in geostationary orbit however, things would be very different, geostationary orbits are at an altitude around 35 800km, so the speed of light roundtrip would take around 240ms.

How about tax avoidance

How about anti-competitive agreements to keep employees wages down
http://time.com/76655/google-apple-settle-wage-fixing-lawsuit/
How about the slew of monopolistic accusations
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2010/feb/24/google-monopoly-probe-european-commission
How about the slew of privacy concerns

I'll not mention the vast abuse of patents since everyone is doing it and its a problem with the system rather than with the company.
Do no evil.
edit: They provide great services but they have some very questionable practices.
Jitter and other latency relevant issues fuck stream over unless you have a big buffer.
I am not sure if you consider voice/video call streaming right now.

Like, it won't matter for Youtube/Netflics, on Twitch, I am not sure how much buffering their player allows.
twitch streaming is the very same as any other streaming
it's already delayed a lot.

I had satellite internet for a few years.
1 mb/s down, 200 KB/s up, but with 200 ms ping.
That's not exactly dialup.
I bet it works infinitely better than Finlands 3G or "4G." Thanks to it, I can feel the satisfying feeling of being ddos'd constantly without actually being ddos'd!
