Is it a single ISP though? Most DDOS comes from botnets from all around the world.
It should just be a thing that all ISPs do. I did mean IP flooding another IP rather than ISP though, oops
It should just be a thing that all ISPs do. I did mean IP flooding another IP rather than ISP though, oops
The thing about DDOS is that it is really hard to tell apart fake traffic from real traffic. This means you can potentially block a lot of legit connections. If there was an easy solution, it would've been implemented long ago but ddos is rather brute force so to prevent it you need to have more bandwidth and servers to handle it. Heavy ddos is really costly to mitigate so many choose to just wait it out. That is unless they found some sort of exploit that allows them to flood servers without needing to go brute.
Last night my family and my uncle from HK wanted to watch the Interview with Xbox video, but couldn't since the service was unavailable :( we had to use Youtube with my mom's laptop and a vga cable because it didn't work with any of our youtube apps on the xbox or the blu ray player.
The fact that PSN is still down, while their major competitor is already back up and gave regular updates is really upsetting. Sony has said approximately fuck all about this.
jesus christ these kids are dumbasses, theyre only doing it for attention and are going to get their asses fried eventually, what kind of dumb hacker name is "Lizard Squad"? thats almost as bad as "Lulzsec"
http://www.winbeta.org/news/exclusive-interview-cyber-terrorist-group-lizard-squad-why-they-brought-down-xbox-live-and-psn
When asked which company was easier to bring down, Microsoft was the immediate response. They commented that Sony had recently upgraded their security, via a new system we will not mention here, which took a bit of time to work around, but that Microsoft simply had the poorest security – “almost nothing”. When asked how each company was fighting back – the group alluded to the idea that they were easily keeping the networks down.

The fact that PSN is still down, while their major competitor is already back up and gave regular updates is really upsetting. Sony has said approximately fuck all about this.
Was to be expected. XBL has always been more stable than PSN.
Can't ISPs stop DDoS attacks cold by seeing the type of traffic that's going outbound and having software just instantly throttle it before it ever leaves? Hey this single ISP is flooding this other IP with an insane number of requests. Stop.
Unless the kiddies changed their flooding method, the issue lies with ISPs who do not validate their traffic properly. The attackers have a server on an ISP which doesn't validate their traffic, and they send requests to high capacity networks with a spoofed "source" address -- with the "source" address being the victim's network. So these networks send a reply, completely unaware they are sending data to a false address. Once all ISPs employ BCP 38 and BCP 84, these attacks will get majorly slowed down. But there are so many large providers who don't bother with this, so this problem persists. Nullrouting reflected DDoS attacks can only go so far.
It should just be a thing that all ISPs do. I did mean IP flooding another IP rather than ISP though, oops
This web server is pushing alot of http traffic, better throttle it. This DNS server is pushing alot of DNS traffic, better throttle it. This streaming server is pushing alot of video data, better throttle it. This is not a viable answer for an automated system.
I'm surprised that Live is so easy to disrupt compared to Sony, MS have the entire Azure cloud network to use. With enough nodes and plenty of endpoints for users to access it globally, taking down Live should be quite hard. Sure they might take down the endpoints, but if there's enough of those then nobody should suffer too much, the service might just get a bit slow.
The fact that PSN is still down, while their major competitor is already back up and gave regular updates is really upsetting. Was the Xbox Live attacks localized to a specific region, service or something? I played FIFA on 360 a lot last night online just fine.
So does Sony have an ETA on when the PSN servers are supposed to be back up?
Doing something. Do you think people stop being lonely by sitting alone in their room playing consoles? It's like being upset about being fat and then eating a cheesecake. That's not how to stop being fat.
dang all your posts are really bad
Apparently, Kim Dotcom offered Lizard Squad 3,000 vouchers for his Megaupload service, and said if they leave PSN and Xbox alone he'll convert them to lifetime accounts rather than Annual, and will terminate them if they're attacked again. I hope they're as dumb as I think they are and actually use them and practically give up their anonymity by doing it, and Kim Dotcom outs them
If that worked I would set the man as my wallpaper for a month that would be too brilliant to become true, sadly
dang all your posts are really bad
Good to know Mr Quality Control, now can we move on?
Was the Xbox Live attacks localized to a specific region, service or something? I played FIFA on 360 a lot last night online just fine.
It seems just the xbone was affected
It seems just the xbone was affected
Can anyone tell if PS3 was affected?
Can anyone tell if PS3 was affected?
I'd assume "PSN" means anything using it (PS3, PS4, PSP, Vita)
Can anyone tell if PS3 was affected?
PSN's been fine on the PS3 and Vita for a while, it seems to be the PS4 side of things that's still having issues.
My PS4 isn't letting me log on as I keep getting errors saying it "cannot connect within the time limit" and I can't check the status on the site as I get errors so it's fucked on my end.
https://twitter.com/FUCKCRUCIFIX/status/548618979070443520 Apparently they fried Sony's DNS servers. Jesus wtf how does that happen?
https://twitter.com/FUCKCRUCIFIX/status/548618979070443520 Apparently they fried Sony's DNS servers. Jesus wtf how does that happen?
That's not the real LizardSquad. There are hundreds of fake accounts that people are making to try and get some followers from the whole mess. Seriously, look at #PSN on Twitter and set it to 'all'. There's so many and most of them aren't even trying.
PSN's been fine on the PS3 and Vita for a while, it seems to be the PS4 side of things that's still having issues.
Still having problems on both my Vita and PS3.
PSN's been fine on the PS3 and Vita for a while, it seems to be the PS4 side of things that's still having issues.
I haven't been able to connect on my PS3 since around half an hour ago.
Still having problems on both my Vita and PS3.

I haven't been able to connect on my PS3 since around half an hour ago.
Really? My friends on Vita said they were connecting fine, and said their PS3s connected fine too. Guess not everyone's having a problem.
Yeah just booted up my PS3 to play some Vib-Ribbon and it told me I couldn't sign into PSN.
Really? My friends on Vita said they were connecting fine, and said their PS3s connected fine too. Guess not everyone's having a problem.
Just checked the japanese, european and american psn, can't connect to any of em. Really sucks too, I just switched hdd in it and was looking forward to downloading a bunch of stuff overnight :C
So has Sony said anything as to when psn will be back up
