• Steam down with DDOS threat by Phantom Squad

Can you do us a favor and take down PSN or Xbox? :v:
Why do you all always think that the people who do this do it for the "lulz" and are renting a botnet with their parent's money? Almost always they are a group of people who have botnetted a ton of people and are advertising their botnet for sale to everyone or a specific group of people. In the past Lizard Squad has done this, and others as well. Please stop acting like everything that inconveniences you is done by a bunch of adolescences that want to be "cool".
i just jumped on halo 5 because CSGO is down dont you DARE take down xbox
Games that don't use SteamWorks will be fine and steam can be used regardless of whether valve's backend is up or not so I don't really get what they are trying to achieve. Beyond not being able to login perhaps. Can't you start steam in offline mode without internet now? Or did I imagine that.
You don't need internet to use steamworks, that'd be dumb. You do need it to use its NAT punching(rather, steam needs to be online), but given this attack did absolutely nothing to hamper Steam. I guess having servers around the globe makes it hard to use your brain and figure that out.
what happened to the workshop tho its empty for me
what happened to the workshop tho its empty for me
Probably one of the two servers they targeted. It'll probably be up if Valve mitigates it.

The risk isn't worth the reward, Botnets aren't exactly a million dollar industry.
Why do they always have the dumbest group names. I don't think I've seen a single hacker group with a threatening name.
Sure is gonna be epic and heroic when they get arrested like lizard squad and poodlecorp
i could imagine some malicious governments buying botnets though (if they can't make their own of course)

this "squad" is the most embarassing group i ever saw
That money is useless when you're in jail though. The risk isn't worth the reward, Botnets aren't exactly a million dollar industry.
..and are typically ran by basement dwellers as seen by the lizard squad arrests.
Seeing these posts I am quite convinced now that this Phantom Squad kid is just a troll
Holy christmas how fucking embarassing.
That money is useless when you're in jail though. At this stage they are low risk, low reward. Lizard Squad for example was high risk high reward since all of their previous work. And botnets kind of are a million dollar industry.
It's very unlikely these guys are behind it. They also claimed they were behind the DYN attacks which utilized an IoT botnet, and one of the currently most powerful botnets around: Mirai. I highly doubt if this person/these people had access to such a high profile botnet that they would be openly bragging about it.
the best part that its been relatively easy to create super massive DDoS attacks with just one machine even before mirai but its a relatively uncommon method
He deleted that tweet so he's somewhat self aware how stupid this is.
Yeah I called him out on it, will probably remove more later
the best part that its been relatively easy to create super massive DDoS attacks with just one machine even before mirai but its a relatively uncommon method
Root servers would be able to mitigate smaller attacks like that as mentioned in Dyn's press release: https://dyn.com/blog/dyn-statement-on-10212016-ddos-attack/ The fact that it was the Mirai botnet being used for the attack while using an unconventional method is what was able to bring them down.

It's like whatever has "Steam" in thread name in SH ends up being popular in minutes lately.

Also if you want to see a big dog DDoS, look at the spamhaus one.
It's like whatever has "Steam" in thread name in SH ends up being popular in minutes lately.
Considering the forum you are posting on, I would say that almost all of the members have a vested interest in the status of Steam.
It's like whatever has "Steam" in thread name in SH ends up being popular in minutes lately.
Should not really be that much of a surprise, alot of people on this forum use Steam. Hence the large interest when Steam is in the title.
Pretty sure they are trolling at this point
fuck off guests
Pretty much a dick waving contest at this rate.
