So was his grandfather at a gay club [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline]
It's funny how people will do just about anything to deny that something higher than themselves exists. They have to be in control of their own little world because they're kind of a big deal.
FYI I'm the biggest deal there is. The universe revolves around me because I'm the one observing the universe. Everything happens around me since I'm the one who experiences it. It's the same for all people, really.
I'm going to type up a paragraph that is my own mindless ramble, basically an example of what a real story like. Just a test, I could get way more into it and make it a pointless short story, but I'm too lazy and see no real meaning behind doing that.
As the foggy blindness of death cleared from my eyes, I woke up standing on misty grounds of white, as far as the eye could see around me, all I would see is what looked like the tops of clouds, most certainly like cotton candy without the color. In front of me was the sight of a giant golden gate, one which looked so immense and vivid before my eyes, gaurding this incredible, gargantuan empire of lightly colored castles, filled with pure looking robed figures with angel like wings, and halo's of glowing yellow upon their heads. Before me, and standing with a book infront of the gate was a tall man, wings, robes, halo, blonde and all.
Off the top of my head with no editting. Anyone here think that I could really make a story about an experiance in heaven? Not only that, but make money off it if I kept this detailed. I mean, this kid got media attention after all. All I need to do is act like I was 'given a message by the good lord, and should tell everyone this message' and bam, Christians will cling to this like flies on a turd.
Reminds me of the Penn and Teller episode on "The afterlife" there's a good 10 minutes on near death experiences and people apparently seeing heaven, they all pretty much described the same generic scenario of seeing their family, and lots of white, AKA stereotypical heaven.
What makes it even better is that the bible says that no one is in heaven yet, And that the dead are dead until the resurrection Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.. Oh and no one in heaven will remember anything anyway Isaiah 65:17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. Seeing as he is a pastor I would hope he would know his own holy book better then me.
It's a good job you are not a judge, otherwise people would get sentenced based on assumptions and the basis of "guilty until proven innocent". You are clutching at straws.
Actually, no. It's the same as a court case. The person(often the state/police) going against the theoretical criminal has to prove that their claim of what happened actually happened. Just like in a courtroom, the person making a claim has to prove their claim and back it up with facts. [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline]
Geez, guys, is it really so terrible for people to have hope for something beyond death?
No, but they shouldn't be exploiting a kid for money
When I was on morphine in hospital I didn't experience anything, just like when I was knocked unconscious it was looking into black for what felt about 1 minute and I woke up in the after op. ward, I was out for like 3 hours.
Geez, guys, is it really so terrible for people to have hope for something beyond death?
Personally? Yes, it completely devalues life. I mean who gives a rats ass about their shitty life now if they know that if they don't steal, kill, rape, or destroy they will go to a place infinitely better? It makes our world, the one we live in, basically worthless. That type of thinking breeds people who can justify nonaction and anti-progression. The whole "heaven and hell" scheme is an outdated reward/punishment ideology, it was invented to scare people into doing exactly what the religion they belonged to said to do (or else). In my personal opinion, life is a hundred times better when you know you only have one chance to live it right. Where there's there's nothing after death, you live for today. Regardless, hypothetically, if there is a Heaven and a Hell, send me to Hell. God is a fucking douche, I can empathize with Satan more than I can that ego-maniacal and jealous asshole. Yeah, I just called God an asshole, because he is. I don't bow down and worship any leader that can justify slaughter and genocide. May be a little extreme, but I agree with Epicurus.

And I don't think you get the idea of what the Devil/Hell are for, I don't really believe in it but it helps to understand the idea behind it.
I like to believe in an afterlife of some sort, just because not existing sounds really really shitty.
I like to believe in an afterlife of some sort, just because not existing sounds really really shitty.
Well if you don't exist that means you don't have to like listen to shitty pop music on the store's radio while trying to buy clothes.
Well if you don't exist that means you don't have to like listen to shitty pop music on the store's radio while trying to buy clothes.
I know it sounds crazy, but I'd rather do that than not exist.
I like to believe in an afterlife of some sort, just because not existing sounds really really shitty.
I can't believe how people can think that the truth is irrelevant as long as they feel good. [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline]
No, because if you read what I posted properly you will see that they were in entirely different rooms.
And they were doing something extremely rare for parents whose kid is in surgery: praying. If he had seen them do complex algebra and they were actually doing that, it might be slightly interesting.
I lol'd at the comments, then became disheartened.
I sense God's presence every time I see a child smile. Of course Jesus would calm a frightened child with his love. How can you not believe this?
God-fucking-dammit, America...

[sp] I will receive dumbs for this post because I'm not bashing religion[/sp]
Are you implying that people who don't believe in afterlife/god are hopeless and scared? That isn't the case here. And no, you didn't recieve dumbs for not bashing religion, you are recieving dumbs because of your stereotypical view of atheists.
Afterlife is like before life. You won't know because your brain will be dead and nothing will be able to collect any information, thus you simply won't. You might think it's bad or boring, but when you're dead, you simply won't know.
too bad hell never see it again
I don't know.
