• Gaddafi disguises helicopters with red cross to drop mines in Misrata port

you know the irony, he was big friend with Italy and France just some months ago :) but they opened theirs mouths too soon and this dictator don't forget who betray him (see the Swiss incident with his son) thus the only way how keep the oil and gas coming is get rid of him lot of people don't know that while his rule was with opression there was sort of very high living standard in Libya (compared to most African states) and also Libya was sort of safer country in terms of criminal activity than most African states... the question is not that if these countries deserve Democracy but if they can handle it w/o falling into another even worse dictatorship ofcourse it's sad that one side now breaks the basic rules of not using Red Cross for military ops
This is whole new level of wrong.
Not really new.
iirc the BBC showed a picture of a British warship disposing of one of the mines. Though, as with all the pictures they use in news articles, it's pathetically small. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13295375 Another article mentioning the minesweeping ship in Misrata. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/04/libyan-conflict-enters-psychological-stage
I'm not contesting the presence of the mines - I'm contesting the lack of proof of them using choppers with red cross markings.
I'm not contesting the presence of the mines - I'm contesting the lack of proof of them using choppers with red cross markings.
Ah, misread; my bad.
"How can there be War crimes when war it self is one."
I've always thought of war crimes like the distinction between robbery and armed robbery, or murdering someone while robbing them, or some other form of committing a worse crime in the middle of one.
Well there's war crimes and then there's crimes against humanity commited during wartime. The latter being obviously the more severe. Technically speaking war itself is not a crime. A defensive war is an example of a noncriminal war. The thing is that all kinds of war are governed by a lot of international laws - various bans on certain weapons, targeting hospitals etc etc etc. You break those and you start committing war crimes. Giving others excuse to go for you.
That's fucked up beyond all belief. I hope his death is slow and painful.
Nice tactical idea
The funny thing is, while NATO have been fucking around bombing tanks and shit, the Libyan Airforce blew up the the citywide fuel storage depot in Misrata in an incredibly successful attack by light aircraft. So now Misrata and the rebels are out of fuel of the frontlines. Added to that, they have been dropping mines and conducting recon and raids from helicopters. Good No Fly Zone NATO. Alright. Now who wants SAM sites?
It's an illegal one. Why can't we use cluster bombs on him yet? seriously, if he's breaking the rules can't we hammer him to tartarus and back.
Cluster bombs would be pretty useless on him IMO, its not like he goes for a walk across a field every day.
Do you think he gives a shit?
Unfortunately not, however it may sway the nations who are currently against military action towards the idea. I wonder if Gaddafi is included in the three Libyan people that the ICC are going to charge with war crimes in the coming weeks. If they do, perhaps the US could "assist" with his "arrest". It might solve the problem.
Gutless coward! Does he even care how in-humane this is?
You mean to defend your country as it's being overrun by rebels (including Al-Qaeda) supported by the west? Oh, how inhumane. If the same thing happened in America (or anywhere in Europe) people would be all for us/the beleaguered country in question...what we've got here is a double-standard conflict with some shady stimuli behind it. When your country is being torn apart, you sometimes have to take drastic measures to defend yourself. Civilians will die here, just as in any war. Accept it.

Pretty clever but still bad. Fucking Gad, hope he gets mauled.
Now that's just fucked up. What lowlife fucking scum.
Not cool.
I hope this guy suffers a long painful death for the shit he is doing.
Isn't falsely using protected symbols quite a serious war crime?
At this point, I really don't think Gaddafi gives a fuck.
By the time Libya is done, he will be worse of a scum than Hitler, if thats even possible...
Stalin was worse than Hitler.
Rules in war? Haha. When you're on verge of losing, rules suddenly don't matter to you anymore.
Even Hitler didn't commit war crimes before losing the war. [editline]8th May 2011[/editline] :godwin: but whatever
Well yeah Hitler committed crimes against humanity throughout the war. I guess that works as a fitting excuse, now doesn't it.
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/libyan.jpg[/img_thumb]
Why we have Azerbaijanian flag in this picture?
Well yeah Hitler committed crimes against humanity throughout the war. I guess that works as a fitting excuse, now doesn't it.
Yeah, I guess. That was a dumb argument. But warcrimes still suck.
You better be fucking kidding...
Not at all. Is there something wrong with asking some hard questions about what right we have to do any of this to a sovereign nation? Also, if you read the article, you'd know there isn't any actual proof at the moment that the Red Cross chopper thing is anything more than a hoax.

Right, someone explain this to me, what exactly is stopping people from taking some cruise missiles and shoving them so far up those fucking asses of those god damn bastards that they'll be split in half? I want to see bunker busters, and I want to see them now, turning Gaddafi's face into a liquid.
Missiles disguised as red cross missiles. Wait...

This didn't start as an armed rebellion until Gaddafi started slaughtering peaceful protesters. In recent weeks Libyan loyalists have gotten sneakier e.g. using technicals like the rebels, hiding tanks in the cities, and recently using little crop duster aircraft to blow up a fuel depot. His forces aren't as solid and well-defined as in the beginning, for lack of a better descriptor. The initial Tomahawk barrage was possible because there were plenty of targets for them. Then there's the overall constraint of as few civilian casualties as is humanly possible. Every civilian dead by coalition fuckup is another propaganda coupon for Gadaffi.

The American Revolution was aided by financial and military aid by both Spain, and France, Britain's greatest rival in the New World. Both were very powerful monarchies that were assisting an armed rebellion that would help establish a Republic in the British Colonies. From what I have recalled, I heard monarchies, even constitutional ones hate the shit out of republics since they gave peasantry a voice. Are you trying to advocate that America cannot help topple a totalitarian dictator simply because it is, in of by itself, 'their own sovereignty'? You mind as well just say that the actions of France and Spain supporting American rebels would be totally unjustifiable and totally against what France and Spain stood for.
You mean to defend your country as it's being overrun by rebels (including Al-Qaeda) supported by the west? Oh, how inhumane. The UN Resolution has been advocating the protection of civilians by Gaddafi ever since they have been bombing protesters which is, from what I recall a big no-no. Unless, by your standards Jenkem you would bomb a rally against abortion legislation a 'justifiable act' that would help protect the country. This rebellion goes against everything that Al Qaeda practically stands for, there has been so much anti-totalitarian fervor in Eastern Libya, why would Al Qaeda want to topple a leader that has been harboring them and supporting their terror attacks in the past few decades? If America uses protected symbols on bombers and attack helicopters to protect it from invading North Koreans, it would be very safe to say that the world would be on our asses. Even better, such incidents would probably be covered up by censor and would be revealed by independent press members on the front. Knowing that, the world would probably hate your ass for doing so. The same goes for World War II, Nazi propaganda easily pointed out the flaws of U.S. segregation between colored and white while at the same time, the United States has been advocating the freedom of Europe from Nazi tyranny while at the same time, the US has been putting down minorities with in it's own borders.
