A bunch of Marines doing absolutely nothing and just sitting around their post drinking water and fighting with body scanners as swords.

Ahahaha holy shit, you really are getting desperate to win arguments.
PLEASE, PLEASE, point out in that post where I say "the military doesn't kill people and wage wars"?
That bolded text is from your post, not any edit of mine.
Flavor is just an opinionated young boy like most of the people in facepunch.
Edit: Btw, NATO isn't doing much of a job in preserving peace or fighting the taleban either.
More fighting causes more civilian victims. More civilian victims causes anger in the population. Anger in the population causes people to turn to al queda or taleban who will then cause even more violence or even attacks back on other countries soil.
Is there really a sensible way out of this? I doubt it.
Slowly withdrawing forces and giving up bases, training and armanents to the middle-eastern countries own forces would be better than sending people there to drive around in jeeps into IEDs and to order airstrikes on rebel bases.
Uh that's what they are doing bro. The only reason NATO hasn't said "fuck it" and pulled out is because the ANA isn't yet capable of operating on their own. If you look at every piece of combat footage out of the last 3 years or so, almost every operation involves the Afghan army in an increasing capacity.
They've had huge success with training up and fielding the Afghan special forces, but regular ANA is still lacking in capability and organization.
As for a sensible way out, there IS, but the damage is done really. While I think the taliban are scum and it's great they are not in power, I do wonder if it's worth 10+ years of bloodshed just to keep it that way.

This reminds me, the film/documentary "Armadillo" has a brilliant scene that shows the mindset of an Afghani farmer. He explains to the officer that while he hates the Taliban, not helping NATO is infinitely better than the Taliban coming back later and killing his family for cooperating.

You realise that that's what Allied forces are actually doing - trying to gradually transfer authority to Afghani forces.
ALSO: Can we stop with the old line about Allied forces killing all the civilians and turning them to terrorism. In 2009, 75% of civilian casualties were attributed to the Taliban. They're really not some sort of guerrilla people's-heroes group, they don't have remotely as much support as people around here seem to think.
Yeah I was wondering what everyone was banging on about jihadists for, there is literally no Jihad in Afghanistan.
This isn't Iraq where a bunch of pissed off civilians are taking up Jihad to remove foreign invaders from their country, this is Afghanistan, the Taliban are fighting to get back the control they lost over the region.
I would wager there isn't very many Afghani civilians who are actually fond of the Taliban.
I know we are in a thread about atrocities in afghanistan but I was referring to the middle-east in general.
