CNN Commentator calls Obama the "cotton-picking President"

It's not really that awful of a phrase, especially used in this context. But I can imagine a bunch of butthurt people are going to bitch about this day and night.
I've lived in the South my entire life and I know that phrase is never used for anything but a racist remark towards African-Americans.

No foul, just an honest mistake.
Just by reading the title, I just assumed that 'Cotton-picking' must also mean 'Slaving' or 'Extremely Hardworking'. I just assumed that he thought Obama as an 'Extremely Hardworking President'.
[QUOTE=Mega1mpact;24491944]Why do i have the feeling 4chan is going to troll her ass?[/QUOTE]
because you're stupid
That's not nice
[sp]He was being racist[/sp]
Maybe he'll be hated into leaving CNN then, I don't like Rick Sanchez, he's got a cock in his ass or something
This is a common phrase in the Southern United States, and is essentially a nice way to say (in this case) "the damned President!"
He meant nothing bad by it.

I've lived in the South my entire life and I know that it's just minced oath for "damn" or "fucking."
Considering how quickly he apologized, I'm sure he meant nothing by it.
This is pretty funny. Racist, but funny.

learn what context is. he wasn't being racist, although it was a poor choice of words.
stupid cotton picker
[editline]05:21PM[/editline]
i'm sorry
[editline]05:22PM[/editline]
[sp]see what i did there[/sp]
He wasn't fucking racist. It's ridiculous.
I honestly do not think Obama should or even does care. Hell, the man called himself a mutt on live television. If he has any bit of self respect, then he would just shrug it off. [
I also have hardly heard this phrase used. My living in the south for 14 years only only twice I remember hearing it.

It's not a strawman, it's a prediction.
My dad says "cotton pickin'" a lot. :v:
oopsies
I've heard of something called freedom of speech. Was that just in a dream?

It kinda gone down hill with the rise in hate crimes.
[editline]08:43PM[/editline]
"reported" hate crimes that is.
This is a cotton-pickin' stupid argument you stupid cotton-pickers.
Notice how one is offensive and one is not. Rick Sanchez used the one that isn't.
Note being offended doesn't really mean anything. It's not like if you're offended you will wake up tomorrow with herpes. It's just being offended. Shouldn't stop anyone from doing anything.
How absolutely no one has heard of this term blows my mind. Maybe it's 'cuz I live in tha south an' I hear it all tha time.

I have never, ever heard anyone use it like that. Maybe if you called someone a "cotton-picker", but he didn't.
I recommend reading [url=http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cotton-picking]this[/url].
