Analogies are perfectly fine if your opponent isn't inclined to cry nonsense whenever the analogy doesn't work in their favor. I'll just spam what I've been saying for a while, maybe you'll get the hang of it by the fourth iteration:
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
both pro-choice and think abortion should not be publicly funded
Ok? The Hyde Amendment has made that the case since 1976. The current push to "defund Planned Parenthood" isn't going to suddenly make abortions not publicly funded, because abortions haven't been publicly funded since 76.
*EDITED to clarify*
This isn't getting anywhere so I'm leaving.
Every dollar that doesn't have to be spent on everything-but-abortions is a dollar that can be spent on abortions.
And that was a distraction by Tone Float. I hope it was worth everyone's time.
yes?
If there were a standalone clinic that only did abortions, only, you wouldn't get to hide behind all the other shit they do as a reason for why the large fraction of the country that thinks abortion is abhorrent should have to finance it, and it wouldn't be financed. Alas, there is a lot of other shit that they do, so you do have something to hide behind and declare those people who think abortion is abhorrent to be waging a war on women and mammograms and shit!
I don't think that's a very good reason.
Okay how about this, I would support a tax-funded organization that only did abortions and the people who think it shouldn't be funded because they don't think any abortions at all should happen can fuck off because it's a service that absolutely must be available to women, and democracy isn't about keeping people from doing other things just because you don't like them.

If nothing else, I'm glad that my "distraction" showed that the true colors behind the empty rhetoric that is the "war on basic reproductive health!" is instead "fuck off [prolifers]", and "[we should act] regardless of views held by other citizens",
I hope it was worth your time.

So the views of pro lifers, which themselves are exactly similar to the latter of your comparisons, are immune to your own criticisms?
I don't think you really thought the argument through as much as you believe you did.
I give Bob five dollars and then say really strictly that he's not allowed to use that five dollar bill on heroin...
That does not give you the right to tell Bob he can't spend any of his money on heroin. You seem to believe that your argument says you should, and that's where it's all going wrong.
It'd be kind of funny if Canada continued its subtle burns against the US by picking up the slack and replacing PP's lost funding with Canadian funding. We announced that we were contributing to an international fund for reproductive health after Trump's government announced it was cutting funding for the same program.
if I give bob $5 to buy a hamburger, he does, but then uses $5 he already had to buy heroin, then no, I didn't fund his heroin. Tone, you don't understand how funding and accountability works. We give planned parenthood money for specific purposes (like STD screenings); if they use it for something else instead (in this case abortion) then that's fraud.
2018 can't come fast enough. We literally cannot afford not to get rid of the Republican majority in congress.

You took all of the context out of my post but honestly this part in a vacuum:
"[we should act] regardless of views held by other citizens",
I mean...yes? Would you like to try applying your argument to any matter of civil rights ever?
I know. Therein lies the problem.
I want all the rest funded, and most people would agree with that, and I'm actually pro-choice, but I respect the opinions of those that oppose the 1% of their function that is abortion, and I respect those that do not want it funded.
Bob has five dollars. I give him five more. Then, he buys five dollars worth of heroin. Did I pay for the heroin?
Public funds were not used for abortion, this argument is a non starter.
I must admit I wanted to say 95% of what you do was not related to abortion services but I couldn't remember the exact figure.
It's a damn awful blow and it's stupid this is happening. I wish you luck.
Just to clear up any miscommunication here, I am not in any way affiliated with Planned Parenthood, except as a patient. "We're" was just a typo of "were."

Oh.
Well still, I do wish you luck since you do use the services.
