How are you supposed to mind read and tell what other people's intentions are. If someone smashes my glass door, shouting at me, I would think that he would want to kill me rather than complain about my dining room decorations.
Probably to make switching safety quicker and without disrupting aim but yeah blatant safety problem right there
Well the gun isn't really safe at all. You don't "switch" the trigger safety off, you just pull the trigger and it fires.
I'm not afraid of guns. I've been shooting since I was nine. I took apart an AR-15 once. Remarkable gun indeed.
No, see he'd sneak in while you were asleep, take your gun, shoot you in the foot, then he'd rape you, then you'd piss yourself.
I don't know what you guys are on about. If a man charged into my house, armed or not armed, and I told him that I was armed, and that I would shoot if he got any closer, and he did, I would pull the trigger. When your threat acknowledges the fact that you have the power to kill him, and he still tries to harm you or your property, I think it's justified to shoot.
If I knew more about this story I would be saying different things, the phone call shows no evidence of verbal contact between either of the woman or the guy, she doesn't warn him although at one point she says "i'm gonna shoot" (to the operator though) and it seems inconsistent, some insane guy shouting from outside would surely be likely to continue his threats while entering the house
Still, I think the woman is right. Imagine it was your grandma, would you really have wanted her to throw the shotgun away and do nothing?
Funny you say that, because my grandparents are even more locked and loaded than my parents. 3 9mm pistols, 1 .22 lr pistol, several rifles and shotguns. My grandpa has killed a guy for breaking into his house when he was young, and I'd say he hasn't been very affected by it. My grandparents are awesome.
she doesn't warn him although at one point she says "i'm gonna shoot"
Well, since she had a gun pointing at him wouldn't that be a given?
Nobody shoots to kill or incapacitate. People shoot to hit the target.
Wisdom.
if i ever actually got robbed i wouldn't be dumb enough to try and confront the invader, I would call the police and let them handle it.
Fine then. Enjoy being robbed/dead.

Sit down and have tea and crumpets with the robber, while listening to piano music?
Well, since she had a gun pointing at him wouldn't that be a given?
She might have been (and likely too) cowering at the side, very distant from the window, the smashing of the window sounds very distant, it is usually VERY loud when glass smashes
Well, since she had a gun pointing at him wouldn't that be a given?
Tells me the man had been playing dem vidya games. He thought he could take the hit COD style!
I'm sure the guy wanted to break in and say hello and ask for a cup of sugar, right?
Or what if he was drunk and just thought that was his home

:colbert: Rated autistic.
Most of the disagreeing people here didn't read the article fully. He was warned and then kept proceeding. She shot her because if she didn't, she would've been killed. That isn't murder. That guy had a MUGSHOT. He had his chance. I would've at least crippled him though, but the fucker ruining my door would make me pretty fuckin' mad.

I approve of this form of self defence
yeah killing people is boss especially when you don't care
Fuck yes. :clint:
if i ever actually got robbed i wouldn't be dumb enough to try and confront the invader, I would call the police and let them handle it.
Oh, I missed this and then asked you the same question. So, my next question is.. did you not listen to the call to emergency dispatch where she told them to hurry and that she was going to shoot? The police weren't there in time. How would letting the police handle it save your life? You're not being very realistic.

Remain calm- BANG BANG BANG!
He didn't see the shotgun, the second he burst through the door she pulled the trigger
So? Maybe he shouldn't run around burglarizing homes in the first place, especially in a nation where roughly one in four adults own a firearm.
You will just end up as another casualty someday, because of this fool reasoning.
ok I'll remember to regret everything I said when I fail to kill an intruder in my house and he kills me instead
No I'm attacking Urkel because he's dumb and thinks you can survive being shot in the leg with a shotgun from close range.
cool, sorry I'm a normal person who doesn't constantly fap over guns and weapons
Who has the fucking time to figure out what an intruder's intentions are? Have you ever had your house broken into while you were home and confronted the burglar?
okay then I guess I better just shoot immediately and kill him, no matter what the situation, instead of maybe just threatening him with the gun or installing a home alarm system. you people are a bunch of children, seriously
Oh, I missed this and then asked you the same question.
So? Maybe he shouldn't run around burglarizing homes in the first place, especially in a nation where roughly one in four adults own a firearm.
It's gotta be a lot higher than 1 in 4, most people I know own at least one firearm.
It does seem very stupid to put the safety on the trigger. What's the reasoning behind this?
Well I guess so it doesn't fire if dropped or whatever, but still.
