I get that. But everyone masturbates.
I mean maybe you do it once every two months and you're a nervous wreck afterwards because it brings back memories of horror and pain, but you still do it. And saying you don't is just silly.
It's like eating. Even if you have an eating disorder, you still eat on occasion. You can't say "I don't eat", it's just ridiculous.
Two things:
1. She's 60, and probably menopausal.
2. It's hardly like eating, eating is an absolutely essential activity that ceasing will, without question, directly result in death.
People don't have the tendency of dying when they stop masturbating
In my experience people don't eat food because they'll die otherwise, they eat food because they're hungry. And they get hungrier if they continue to not eat.
Same principle applies. Sort of.

Maybe us Facepunchers are a new breed that dies when they don't masturbate.

Pretty sure Gandhi never did.

Contrary to popular belief, menopause doesn't make your sex drive vanish.
People are saying that the student is an idiot for not reading the waiver, which I agree is idiotic, but what was on the waiver?
Did it just have a generic "this might offend you, turn back if you hate sex" message, or did it actually say that you have to masturbate and detail your sex life to pass?
She is in the wrong because she didn't read the waver, but she was a victim of sexual abuse, it's a perfectly rational assumption she would be somewhat disturbed by the idea of sex. Think for a second before you go off about something stupid.
Unless the quote in specific is referring to this event.
In which case I'm stupid.
And while I'd normally understand that you would be afraid of related things for the first year or so, to fear the very concept of sex a long time after an act indicates that haven't gotten the help you need and as a result, you most likely deserve the shortcomings that come with it.
For example, if you got stabbed in the leg and this SERIOUSLY traumatized you, then you might stay away from knives for a few months/a year and this is perfectly understandable. But using your bare hands to tear apart pieces of white hot bacon on the pan when it's been 5 years since you've been harmed by a knife pretty much shows that you're being very cowardly towards facing up to your issues.

Pretty sure he did.
Seriously, get that mythical hero worship bullshit out of your head. Just because Gandhi was a relatively zen dude doesn't mean he's any different than the rest of us common blokes when it comes to sex.
Contrary to popular belief, menopause doesn't make your sex drive vanish.
Thought not, but I'd think it at least reduces somewhat with age. Also you have to remember what that age implies: she's from a past-era, an era where things like this weren't so common, at least not openly.
okay, when we reach the "Did Gandhi jerk off or not" level of conversation it means it's time to stop.

Some people just don't masturbate, is it really that hard to believe?
Was this a necessary course for getting the degree?
okay, when we reach the "Did Gandhi jerk off or not" level of conversation it means it's time to stop.
I don't see what's so weird about that.
People have this idea that there are these amazing guru motherfuckers who've transcended their own sexuality when in reality they're probably even more fucked up in the head sex wise than the average dude. It's this bias towards the idea that sexuality is inherently bad and therefor 'good' people are more disconnected from it.
Some people just don't masturbate, is it really that hard to believe?
Yeah. Because it's not true.
I mean, general population wise. I'm sure there are some outliers, but that's outliers. As in statistically non existent.

We have no idea how recent the development is.
People should get help yes, but sometimes people FEAR getting help.
It's stupid but logic isn't logical, and it doesn't really detriment from the the fact it's terrible and not always their fault.

If you're going to bring up statistics, make sure you back them up with actual statistics.

Have you pondered the idea that she might infact be an outlier in your little theory?
You're also forgetting the asexuals, acentric, and chastised.

I get the feeling that you think something like that in your head

Don't forget Vows of Celibacy! Unless that's just a form of being Chaste...
If you're going to bring up statistics, make sure you back them up with actual statistics.
I'm not bringing up statistics. I'm using statistical terms to describe the situation. I'm trying to say that I accept the possibility that there are people who don't masturbate, but assuming that someone doesn't with no evidence is absurd.
I really don't know what to say. I can say with near absolute confidence that everyone who reads this post masturbates. I'd think that everyone has at least a rudimentary understanding of how sexual impulses work, what with having them and all. Why is this such a hot button issue?
There are just certain things that every single human being does. We all seek social interaction. We all seek security. We all seek sexual stimulation.

No, it's more along the lines of, "I masturbate, everyone I've ever known masturbates, every person involved in the psychiatric field I've ever read, heard, or talked to was of the understanding that everyone masturbates, and every person who I've seen who has claimed not to masturbate and then come under close scrutiny has been shown to have been lying, so therefor it's a good bet that everyone masturbates."
I don't know. Do you not masturbate? Is your experience different from mine in any way?
Don't forget Vows of Celibacy! Unless that's just a form of being Chaste...
Yeah, vows of celibacy.
One, which are known for their unfaltering effectiveness, and two, which have nothing to do with masturbation.

how detached from reality are you exactly

you know you guys keep repeating this sentiment, but you never articulate anything beyond that
is there some sort of bevy of documentation about widespread asexuality out there that I haven't seen, because if it exists i'd like to see it
you know you guys keep repeating this sentiment, but you never articulate anything beyond that
We have made a good number of counterpoints, you just refuse to accept them. You, on the other hand, keep repeating that people must masturbate because they must, and give no evidence other than "people have sexual impulses."

you know, just putting aside the whole issue, i haven't used the word must in any of my posts
On the point, yeah. Are you saying they don't?
Well if she signed the waiver then there's no argument. Sorry , lady.

I honestly can not picture how vacant it must be inside your head right now.
Please, process what I am telling you:
YOU ARE NOT PROVIDING ANY POINTS. YOU ARE USING REDUNDANT LOGIC TO ASSERT A BASELESS IDEA. YOU HAVE YET TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE THAT SHOWS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS TRUE.

sounds kinky

It's not "widespread", but it does exist. There are people who feel no sexual desire at all.

Same to everyone else in the thread. How about you lose the ad-hominem attacks and keep being civil like a good forum-goer.
She may be an exception, especially given that she was sexually abused, but that does not make her any less in the minority. No statement is absolute. Almost everyone masturbates, because very nearly everyone has sexual impulses and few have the reasoning to ignore it. Extreme piety and societal values are social norms you would think would regulate such behavior, but it rarely does.
Pretty sure Gandhi never did.
Man, Gandhi did some weird stuff. He slept naked with his naked granddaughter/grandniece (not sure), just for instance.
