You're completly skewing everything he said.
could you explain how for me, please? [editline]11th June[/editline] my choice of words were a little hyperbolic but ultimately he's still saying women are too emotionally unstable to work in a lab. this image could not be more relevant
Yeah, it was explained as a light hearted joke, and even people in the audience perceived it that way (they didn't think it was all that funny), but some people got their panties in a twist over it
Dr Jennifer Rohn, a cell biologist at University College London, added: "I think it was clear he was trying to be funny. But people will interpret his comments as having a kernel of truth underneath. And as a Nobel laureate, I know he's a human being, but he does have some sort of responsibility as a role model and as an ambassador for the profession."

That's someone interpreting what he said. He was quoted as saying he was serious.

"I have fallen in love with people in the lab and people in the lab have fallen in love with me and it's very disruptive to the science because it's terribly important that in a lab people are on a level playing field.
It's not a very good joke, doesn't really have any grounding in today's culture, or any buildup, but it was obviously an attempt at some lighthearted humor.

Additionally, women are no longer emotional.
I would say he's still not as good at making offensive remarks as Prince Phillip:
On a 2002 visit to Australia, he asked a group of aborigines: "Do you still throw spears at each other?" Talking to a Scottish driving instructor: "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?" To a British student in China: "If you stay here much longer, you’ll go home with slitty eyes." On travelling, said to the Aircraft Research Association: "If you travel as much as we do you appreciate the improvements in aircraft design of less noise and more comfort – provided you don't travel in something called economy class, which sounds ghastly." While inspecting a fuse box: "It looks as though it was put in by an Indian." He later clarified his comment: "I meant to say cowboys. I just got my cowboys and Indians mixed up." Talking to Jeremy Paxman about his role in the Royal family: "Any bloody fool can lay a wreath at the thingamy."
More in link: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/prince-philip-turns-94-celebrate-by-reliving-his-finest-gaffes-10309311.html
