14 Wacky "Facts" Kids Will Learn in Louisiana's Voucher Schools
owning a slave is mistreating them.
Not necessarily. The mammy archetype is a notable example of slaves not being mistreated.
Of course probably 95% of slaves weren't exactly treated well, but to say that all slave owners were crazy terrible people is just as preposterous as saying all blacks are crazed gang members who want nothing more than all our white women
does a voucher school help you earn a certified high school diploma when you graduate
so you're completely against private schools? you don't find that absurd?

the key difference between slave owners and black people is that all slave owners owned another human being and directly participated in the oppression of an entire race of people. just because some slaves were given more domestic roles doesn't mean they weren't being horribly abused simply by way of being enslaved. if you're enslaving a person, you're mistreating them. i think it's a pretty simple concept?

yeah i never said i was against private schools, i'm against "private school" being an excuse to give someone a high school diploma founded on an education full of misinformation and straight lies
[editline]9th August 2012[/editline]
dont worry the free market will even out their disinformation eventually

why don't you read what he's saying? being owned as an object is a form of mistreatment. and uh, how can you compare being black, a race, to being a slave-owner? i think saying all slave owners are terrible people is quite accurate. i also don't see what's absurd with being against private schools, i think it's more absurd that you can still call them schools when they just use their position of privacy to literally teach children lies and basically intellectually cripple them
[editline]9th August 2012[/editline]
i think there's something absurd about people being able to have a diploma from a school that teaches the existence of dragons

no, owning slaves is bad because it's mistreating someone. that's the mistreatment and that's what makes them terrible people.
and your last example is just weird
to use your metaphor, saying all slave owners were crazy terrible people is like saying all blacks are black.
I am not really surprised that half the nation votes for republicans if they were taught this in their schools.
That's exactly what the politicians who pushed for this were thinking.
America.
Sorry, I don't want to offend anyone. But how the fuck can you actually teach such garbage towards your students? This should be forbidden and punished. It's like sending someone towards a special needs class for mentally retarded children but with even more false information than you could get out of several fantasy novels.
I say you take off and nuke the entire South from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
I say just glass the entire planet. Just to be really sure.
And glass the rest of the star system as well, no kill like overkill.
Not that teaching kids this stuff is right, but the source is sensationalist as fuck.
Not that teaching kids this stuff is right, but the source is sensationalist as fuck.
they cite their sources tho
this is like being in a race
and you turn around and starting driving the opposite direction
and then while doing that you stick your ass out the window and shit all over everything
then you crash into all the people trying to race normally and fuck everything up and there's shit and burning cars everywhere.
Best analogy ever.
This is the kind of shit I would expect to read on Conservapedia or something.
they cite their sources tho
And that's the hardest part of believing all this.
5. Slave masters were nice guys: "A few slave holders were undeniably cruel. Examples of slaves beaten to death were not common, neither were they unknown. The majority of slave holders treated their slaves well."—United States History for Christian Schools, 2nd ed., Bob Jones University Press, 1991
:suicide:
Sometimes I doubt that bad, influential men like Hitler still exist in this world
When I look at lists like these I am completely certain THEY STILL EXIST AND WOULD LIKE TO KILL EVERYONE NOT WITH THEM.

Unless this is a joke but some of the shit that comes from all over the world involving religion, cults and mindless brainwashing like WBC makes it sound all too possible
I was homeschooled off of Bob Jones University/A Beka books.
Fuck that shit. I thought dinosaurs lived at the same time as humans until I found my dad's National Geographic collection that dated back to the early 60's and read the entire thing.

Hearing about stuff like this makes me wonder, how many of the things I "know" are complete BS?
Everytime I read a Louisiana article, I become more and more ashamed of the fact I was born and raised here. T_T
"Abstract algebra is too dang complicated: "Unlike the 'modern math' theorists, who believe that mathematics is a creation of man and thus arbitrary and relative, A Beka Book teaches that the laws of mathematics are a creation of God and thus absolute…A Beka Book provides attractive, legible, and workable traditional mathematics texts that are not burdened with modern theories such as set theory.""
tl;dr: A priest didn't understand that ∫ 2x dx = x^2 + C and decided to call complicated Maths a demon-spawn.
Apparently the problem some of these crazy fundamentalists have with set theory (not saying its the same reason as the ones here) is that it differentiates between the amount of elements in an infinite set compared to another. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleph_number ) and these people say that there's only one infinity and that god is the infinity or some shit...

Everything becomes a bit iffy when infinity comes over to play :v:
I think the most important skill to teach children in school is to try and think critically about facts and ideas, and if they have doubts, go and look it up. And if EVER someone says that something is irrelevant, or shouldn't be looked into, that's when you have to take matters into your own hands, and learn.
Remember
If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let him be accused O Lord come.
Amen!
you guys know that voucher schools are private schools, right?
90% of schools in Ireland are religious run, private schools. They still have to follow a standard curriculum. Being a private school doesn't mean you can brainwash people into believing any bullshit you want.

Whoah Whoah WHoah. You're sitting with an actual university degree based on bullshit? If America was a kid, i'd be berating him right now about how he should stop dipping his toys in shit and feeding his sister with them! Goddamn it boy!

But Freedom! The FLAG!!! BABY JESUS! JEREMIAH, JOHN, PAUL!!!! THEY'RE ALL CRYING NO!
GODDAMN!
The public schools in LA aren't bad, I haven't heard any of that crap said. Even some of the heavily religious teachers are forced to not be biased. Hell, there's even this thing: http://myarklamiss.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=91797

Although it was kind of stupid of him to do that, it is for the law.
my first reaction to reading this article was "this honestly can't be real". guess what, it's totally real

man, I don't care if they're now all private schools or whatever, fuck this stupid bullshit for life
I don't even see why there are any private schools at all.
I've not learned any of this...
Look guys, yeah these extremist Christians are using their twisted religion to condone genocide, institutionalized racism, and slavery, promote imperialism, suppress information, force political ideologies, present subjective opinions as fact, and deny The Great Depression to children, teenagers, and young adults using tens of millions of tax dollars, but, did you hear about those militant atheists that sponsored the St. Paul Saints to voluntarily change their name for a night? Those fucking terrorists are just as bad, shoving their beliefs down other people's throats. Same coin different sides people!
how in the fuck is it possible for them to say slave bosses were good folk
