Pupils sit 1976 exam; no improvement over 1976 grades

i'm not surprised at all, we have a fast food education system that teaches to the test and not to the mind, what the fuck do you expect?
No, this is ironic. They're saying that the youth today is not better at math then the students 30 years ago were, but tested them 33 years later. They did their math wrong with the years and then say that other people suck at math.
It's like me saying "U suk @ spelin".
Or, they rounded it to 30 to make it more generalised

No we don't, that's only if you do BTEC subjects.
A good point is that they weren't worse at the test either.

Maths Doesn't Change, so why should the results?
people use the word irony too much.
this is just a mistake (or a rough estimate) , not irony.
irony would be like, a landmine victim winning the superbowl or something.
that's not really ironic
Maths Doesn't Change, so why should the results?
Well everyone's acting like this means the schools have gone down the shitter and we're all fucked.
Even more ironic is how the article says there has been no improvement in the course of 30 years, but 2009-1976=33 years.
They're rounding, obviously.

We got calculators now, so in a way the assigments have changed a bit.
Yeah. Just unlikely.

Maybe because the math you teach to 11-14 year old kids is supposed to be basic life math, not quantum calculus.
We got calculators now, so in a way the assigments have changed a bit.
Funfact: Calculators are not allowed in tests.

lol quantum calculus
that's not really ironic
Although it's ironic that he's teaching about irony, trying to look smart, but still doing it wrong.

How ironic
This is so stupid. Of course they didn't do as well in a 1976 exam - the curriculum is totally different.
That doesn't necessarily proof people are generally any better whatsoever at maths in general; it jstu means they're not better at that exam.
Funfact: Calculators are not allowed in tests.
what
we have calculator papers and non-calculator papers.
That'll shut up the daily mail no end.
you'd think it would...but i doubt it
quantum calculus.
"Alright students, get out your worksheet on derivat- has anyone seen where the worksheet went?"
That is what is wrong with schools these days. They focus on testing only and nothing else, everything you learn it to prepare you for a fucking test that makes the school look better or provides them funding.
You do realize it's also in your benefit for them to do this, you can hardly say "oh I got an E in maths exam but I am actually much better at it, just not in test conditions".
Besides I'm pretty sure people claiming that you don't actually learnt the subject are wrong, I mean in the years building up to my GCSEs I did learn things so obviously I had actually learn the subjects.
That'll shut up the daily mail no end.
wait, the daily mail actually reports on topics that isn't immigration or princess diana?
People have been throwing the word "irony" around so much that in a few years it could just mean anything.
"Damn this crappy video game costs me 50 bucks!"
"Dude that is so ironic!"
Ugh. :sigh:
It doesn't matter if it can be shortened to "maths". Because you still sound like an idiot.
quantum calculus
No we don't, that's only if you do BTEC subjects.
in america all education up to college is for testing scores.
good thing i live in cali lol, the teachers are pretty open about that. though i've been to a highschool for two years that focused more on the individual mind than the test scores. it was shut down but it took bunches of kids who grew up in the ghetto and put them in their rightful place outside poverty, now lots of them have ambitions and dreams that are coming true.
it's fucking sad that instead of putting the lives of the children first they have to make it this fucking robotic system that supports itself with human minds. fucking standardized testing and sats just fuck everything up.
it's possible for schools to touch the people they teach genuinely, i've seen it happen before and it is truly wonderful looking back on it.

Funfact: They used a Non Calculator Paper for the exam.

This isn't A Level Maths.
irony would be like, a landmine victim winning the superbowl or something.
Am I a bad person for laughing at that image?
Maths is the British term, therefore it is the correct term because the British way of saying this is always right because we're British and cool like that.
Yes I am being sarcastic. Well, kind of.
Also in Australia we say "maths" so it's even more awesome.
"Alright students, get out your worksheet on derivat- has anyone seen where the worksheet went?"
"No, sir, but I do know exactly how fast it's travelling."
Why am I not surprised?
Funny how 1976 is my birth year.
Umm, maths hasn't changed in for these 30 years. We can't get better, because there isn't anything new to learn.
