No you're right, I just realised we don't drive everywhere in the UK.
Question? Do you drive all across America? If not then that point is null and void.
Considering the only decent cross-country transportation are air planes, yes we pretty much do drive everywhere.
Is that a Canadian thing? I wonder if I can or should make assumptions about Canada based on him.
It is and you should.
Gotta love Finland, here 1 liter of gas costs around 1.8€ so with that price one gallon would cost 8.4$. Oh fuck.
Yes, public transport is "better" I suppose in the UK. But the price of it over here kills it. Costs me 4 pound to get the bus for a 5 mile journey. That's not even a return ticket...
Alright, so I have come to address pretty much everyone in this thread that is offended by this.
"It's not as bad as X, so you're a whiny bitch." is a terrible argument. If people refuse to take notice of issues that aren't 'as bad' as others, then it WILL get as bad as others.
What can you do about gas prices? Crude oils are the biggest monopoly on Earth. You can't shake that. They will drill, mine, collect and sell every last bit until it runs out.
If you said that in Canada somebody would punch you in the jaw, besides that fact Bulgaria is a legitimate post-soviet shithole. I dident stereotype I was going off facts such as $192 minimum wage.
Shut up, I'm at law school in France, we have a quota of 20% of foreign students... there were a lot of bulgarians, speaking perfect english, bulgarian and french (most of canadians/americans don't even speak 2 languages).
Their country might not have the same minimum wage as anywhere else, but the prices in the stores catch up, everything is cheap, and their living conditions decent, they even have internet in the cities... oh lord, what a post-soviet shithole.
You seriously need to stop posting your biased and ignorant point of view, get a god damn culture and verify your facts before spewing shit like : "oo those rebels shot down that plane with a Stfu-442, i know better" or "bulgarians are post-soviet peasants".
I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend, I'd just really appreciate you to change your posting for the greater good.

Alternative fuels, better public transportation, make less plastics, encourage making things in America, more efficient roads, etc.
That would certainly help at least.

Now maybe it's because I grew up in a southernish environment, but I think that looks kinda neat, I'd love to drive that over a smart car or some itty bitty car, regardless if FP thinks it'd make me ~~~hella redneck~~~

anyone remember when we used to say our country was number one
now its our country is a worse shit hole than congo

I know, I completely agree... But nobody would allow it. Not while there's still fuel to sell.
I commute 45 miles a day for my college, theres no other choice I live in a Rural area.

This is why we bitch about gas, we drive EVERYWHERE.
Yeah - you actually dno't really, the moment you take a look at population density and who knows what else. An american might drive a bit more than an Euro, but not by a huge lot.

I don't see anything to prove that, really, but if you any sources on how we don't really drive everywhere, I'm going to have to disagree with you considering I've lived in the US all of my life, and we've always driven everywhere. I know plenty of people who commute damn near the length of the UK from north to south every day, I don't hear of many Europeans doing that, maybe I'm misinformed but it doesn't seem like it happens anywhere near as much as it does here in th states, from my standpoint.

no, its a lot more.

I usually drive ~250-300 miles per week for my commute between work, school, and errands. That's quite a bit.
The lesson to be learned from that is that we need to improve public transit, if anything.
Or get rid of that butt fucking retarded ban on cars that have a high mpg due to losing gas tax.

What? I'm dead serious here - what are you talking about?

basically a guy went to europe for vacation with his family and rented a VW. The model gets 70 mpg meanwhile the same model in the us gets 50 mpg. The reason is they say its not the same because of safety regulations, but im pretty sure they ban them due to oil companies and gas tax for the roads.
I would give my car up for a nice rail system.

I'd love real proof instead of some guy yelling at a screen.
Hurry up Hydrogen, we need you.
i'm just glad that I live in Colorado where a light rail station is about 15 miles away and my car gets ~20mpg as opposed to the hour long drive I have straight to work/school
light rail is awesome because pretty much every university that has a station nearby gives you a pass (assuming you attend that university)
Mmm I wish our public transportation was the same as our freight system in the U.S. Also there is always algae based biofuel if gas prices go to shit and we could stick all that stuff down in Nevada alongside the Atacama to grow it all.
I'd love real proof instead of some guy yelling at a screen.
He's not yelling. Just take his advice - call your local car dealer and ask him.

If you go to VW's website you cant buy the european version of the passat that has 70mpg on highway due to regulations on emmissions in the us. Apparently they said it was because of poor sales here for being a little smaller. I think any car that gets 70mpg with current gas prices would sell like hot cakes.
anyone remember when we used to say our country was number one

Why don't you go live in the Congo and get back to us?
My dad spends at least a hundred dollars every week on gas for his Honda, from driving all across Hillsborough county in Florida, going hospital-to-hospital for his job. Mileage per day is often in excess of 70 miles.
In my commute to my college ten miles away, I'm slowly loosing money because I currently don't have a job. $20 a week in gas, bought from the cheapest places. I accelerate like a senile old man in order to get the most gas mileage out of my Toyota.
I have to travel 10 miles to work 5 days a week. So that's 100 miles a week and that costs me £10($16.13) in fuel. It currently costs £1.46 per litre of diesel.
Your vehicle must be very inefficient, sir.
