Um, surely if it's not rape by law then it's not rape?
He meant that he did have sex, but it wasn't rape.
That was a fallacious, dumb retort.
Well I'm waiting to hear how the Swedish justice system is going to kangaroo him.
Seriously guys? Conspiracy theories? He isn't even wanted in the US for anything at all.
Well I'm waiting to hear how the Swedish justice system is going to kangaroo him.
So that allows you to make a dumb reply with a logical fallacy?
not as if he skipped £100,000 bail or anything :downs:
fucking campers
Seriously guys? Conspiracy theories? He isn't even wanted in the US for anything at all.
Treason? Sorry, he's an Aussie. Terrorism? [editline]17th February 2013[/editline] IMO, just the fact that so much time, money and effort has been spent on capturing him, clearly shows that the rape charge is made up and all they really want is to silence him.
all they really want is to silence him.
why would anyone want to silence him??? obviously you are very very confused about how wikileaks works
why would anyone want to silence him??? obviously you are very very confused about how wikileaks works
Because he's the frontman of the largest organization which has a sole goal of uncovering nations' dirty secrets? And/or to be made an example of?
Because he's the frontman of the largest organization which has a sole goal of uncovering nations' dirty secrets? And/or to be made an example of?
putting assange in jail doesn't stop wikileaks nor any of the people who actually uncover wikileak's content and i still dont know whos making an example of him, the US hasn't charged him with anything, and if he really didn't do what he was charged with he'll likely not be prosecuted because these kinds of cases are difficult to prove unless you actually think the Swedish justice system is infiltrated by the US government, which is laughable to say considering you have 0 evidence to back up that assertion i think wikileaks is an awesome and important organisation, but this kind of paranoid shit makes wikileaks supporters look like a bunch of crazy people who think the US government is some kind of evil organisation. they're not, they're inept there's a big difference
Hiding in the embassy only makes Assange look guilty.
Hiding in the embassy only makes Assange look guilty.
Are you serious?

Why go through all this effort if he's just a nobody who may or may have not raped somebody. I mean, what they've been doing can easily be described as a manhunt - if he was going to be let off the hook that easily with no repercussions he would've turned himself in a long time ago. Can we please not guess what the other person in the argument may be thinking, because it's laughable. Yes, it is, it's amazing. How is it "paranoid shit" - I'm just stating what I think. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and I'm not trying to prove anything (unlike yourself apparently. You can tick off "be an asshole" off your list). It's just suspicious at least that someone would go through all this effort for a supposed rapist. Can you please refrain from these insinuations in the future - it's really fucking annoying to defend myself against things I haven't said.
I mean, what they've been doing can easily be described as a manhunt
Hrm it's almost as if this is commonly associated with criminals who are wanted... and that's exactly how you'd describe it? Like them chasing a criminal? And this is bad, why?
I think it's clear that the charges Sweden laid on him are politically motivated, they even refused to promise that they wont extradite him to the United States. The alleged charges were even dropped at first by the alleged victims, but were refiled by the urging of the prosecutor. Even top feminists groups (e.g. Women Against Rape) who are on the frontlines for ensuring rape-accountability, are expressing severe opposition to the alleged rape charges.

Sweden has not become the 51st state. With your line of thought it may as well just be Russia trying to get him as well. But seeing how he turned around with his "RUSSIA BE AFRAID I'LL LEAK STUFF" and got his own show on a Russian propaganda outlet instead with the Russian leaks no where to be heard from again I doubt it. Funny how that worked by the way. I would also have no problem with the guy if agendas such as this were nonexistent.
Hrm it's almost as if this is commonly associated with criminals who are wanted... and that's exactly how you'd describe it? Like them chasing a criminal?
Because his guiltiness is severely doubtful? [editline]17th February 2013[/editline] You thought that America wanted him for crimes and has wasted money trying to catch him. The problem with your statement is that he is neither wanted nor has any money been spent on him. Again, can we please stick with things I actually said and not go down the slippery slope?
You stated that he is wanted for crimes and America wasted money on getting him.

No, I'm perfectly aware that he's only wanted for the "rape" in Sweden. And money was apparently spent on him with the intent of catching him. Like... You know - that's what this thread is about.
The is the only question I'm gonna ask: what other wanted rapists has anyone spent $6,000,000+ trying to catch?
Are we running the justice system by cost now?
Are we running the justice system by cost now?
Essentially, yes. A justice system really can't function beyond the expenses it incurs, no matter how justly or right their pursuits may be.
Essentially, yes. A justice system really can't function beyond the expenses it incurs, no matter how justly or right their pursuits may be.
Oof, that's quite a plutocracy you're touting. But I'll argue in return: If you let one person away because it cost too much, you're going to inspire more.
Oof, that's quite a plutocracy you're touting. But I'll argue in return: If you let one person away because it cost too much, you're going to inspire more.
No shit. If, literally, everyone at once committed a crime, there would be no way to arrest or bring to justice all of them. This is why some people get out of prison early, because costs are too high. Is it really that hard to grasp, that things cost money no matter how justly they may be?

There's quite a bit of room for it to be increased, and I think that it's a very worthy diversion of money.
How about putting more money into fighting poverty, so there's not much crime to deal with?
Not like you can't do both
There is no evidence of this massive conspiracy web of the U.S. secretly trying to capture Assange.
Not like you can't do both
While money is an infinite thing, budgets are not.
Yes, it doesn't. Why go through all this effort if he's just a nobody who may or may have not raped somebody.
(unlike yourself apparently. You can tick off "be an asshole" off your list).
that's pretty cute
