Unless you're an economist and actually understand communsim on a highly detailed level, then you just look like some uninformed teenager who wants to be different. You have not lived in a communist society, and you do not understand communism on the necessary level to have a developed opinion about it. You're not a communist.
I'm willing to bet that 95% of the people on facepunch who say they are communists probably just read through the Wikipedia article on it, and actually have no idea what they are talking about.
Aside from USA influence, I was under the impression that communism didn't do much for your economy. Before anyone mentions China, bear in mind that China's not REALLY communist anymore - more of, to quote the Simpsons, a "capitalist dictatorship".

Every major country? You know it's only the US that has a trade embargo with Cuba. That's why there's a fair number of modern European cars and buses there.

Technically you're in a harder to defend position, because to an uninformed observer Communism doesn't work; compare the number of Capitalist countries to the number of Communist ones - the logic here says that the most stable system will be favoured and all the Communist states pretty much burned them states out. Of course this point is contentious, but you see where they're coming from, right?

Of course I do, but that depends on whether you're talking about actual [i]communism[/i], or the various interpretations the big-bad-governments of various countries decided to adopt.
What most people forget is that communism is an economic system, not a system of government. It's not the economic system that failed, it's the respective government that failed, and they failed long before the economic system could reach the stage where it became beneficial.
Saying "communism doesn't work" just shows pure ignorance. Communism is an ideology that hasn't even been reached. The closest it's got so far is in Cuba. And Cuba is doing considerably better than a good number of other Caribbean countries. The only thing hindering Cuba is the embargo, which is not due to communism, it's due to US paranoia.
Thanks Castro, for letting everyone know what we've already known. I've never had faith in Cuban socialism, and have always rejected it, as it doesn't following Marxism.
I have to disagree with Neon up there, though. Cuba is not communist- it's authoritarian socialist, and is not at all Marxist. It does not represent Marxism, Marxist Socialism, or communism in my opinion. Because of the fact that it's an ideology that oversees both government and economy, the nations that only follow the economic portion are not part of the ideology- you have to have the Marxist government structure and the economy, or at least the fundamentals, which simply put were removed from every socialist government late into Lenin's life. Cuba is socialist, but not Marxist, and therefore not communist.

Not sure if that's directed at me, I didn't say communism doesn't work, on the contrary, there's a lot of communist background in my family. Held, by long-running communist party members, or Marxist views by people who's professions lie in economics.
Personally, I don't feel strongly one way or another, I'm just getting tired of all this "I'm a communist :smug:" poseur' shit.
