Being the first next gen console is what helped the xbox come out on top so maybe this will help nintendo.
Why are people getting upset about people pointing out the commercial flop that the 3DS has been so far?
Looking at the figures and Nintendo's ultra-aggressive sales compensations, it's not doing as well as they expected it to. It doesn't take a statistician to point out that it isn't holding the ground that the DS took over in the handheld market.
That being said, this whole tangent is totally off topic.
The Wii-U looks like a strange hybrid of the DS and the Wii, and at this point in time it's a strange choice to make considering how people are begging Nintendo to go back to roots and do a standard console with good hardware, no strange gimmicks, and innovation in games and genres that put it on top. I'm withholding real judgement until the Xbox successor is fully announced
They won't use it, since they won't develop for it.
Actually because its said to be about as powerful as the xbox 720 people who make xbox games will now make a wiiu copy as well. Without hardware limitations the wiiU should have some good 3rd party support.
Nintendo spends way too much time coming up with rubbish motion control gimmicks than actually supporting their consoles.
What are you talking about they made a lot of great first party titles this generation.
The WiiU is essentially a disaster in the making.
WiiU
-Just barely above 360 hardware
No its not. The tech demo showed that its capable of doing far better and if the new reports about the 720 are true it will be just about as powerful as the 720.
-Only a few launch titles, half of them we don't even know the names of and are most likely hastily done ports, the other half is Nintendo games that everyone has been playing since the Wii launched except with better graphics
How do you know this if it isn't near launch?
-Awkward & huge tablet controller that puts the original Xbox controller to shame
You didn't hold the new controller did you? According to people who did it actually feels great in the hand.
Basically your being a raging fanboy. Stop it. You are the cancer of gaming.
Look what happened when the PS3/360 came out, everyone abandoned the previous generation of consoles and went for the PS3/360..
No they didn't. For years after the ps3 came out developers were strongly supporting the ps2. God of war 2 came out for the ps2 even though if it really wanted to it could have came out on 3.
Hopefully the price is reasonable, I am tempted to get this as launch, as I've done so with the wii and gamecube.
Also, I can't help but notice that many of the really good games for the Wii - Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Super Mario Brothers, Kirby Epic Yarn, Return to Dreamland, Lego games, Rayman Origins - have all but abandoned the motion controls.
They didn't "abandon" them, they just didn't use them, and Brawl just wasn't the type of game that would use it anyway while New Super Mario bros. Wii had some motion controls
as I always say, the motion controllers were never a gimmick until third parties started overusing the fuck out of them
those games are proof that you don't have to use the motion controls if you don't want to, yet somehow third party developers felt like adding in motion controls just because they could, and usually as an afterthought
What does that have to do with anything, Consoles aren't just about the processor anyway, a quad core from IBM doesn't mean it's going to be pumping out Crysis quality visuals.
Actually that's exactly what it means, assuming the GPU is powerful enough to handle it (which based on tech demos doesn't sound impossible)
Like I said in that other thread way back when, we can always hope:

I want this just because of Smash Bros. Anything else is a bonus.
The WiiU is essentially a disaster in the making.
WiiU
-Just barely above 360 hardware
-Only a few launch titles, half of them we don't even know the names of and are most likely hastily done ports, the other half is Nintendo games that everyone has been playing since the Wii launched except with better graphics
-Awkward & huge tablet controller that puts the original Xbox controller to shame
PS4/Xbox 3
-At minimum will have 2x better hardware than the 360
-Will definitely launch with major titles like CoD and Assassin's Creed, bringing in millions of people within the first month
-GTA V might even be a launch title as well, Rockstar hasn't told anyone what platforms the game will be on, which is kind of suspicious
-Ancient but perfectly functioning controllers everyone knows how to use
I can easily understand why the Wii did so well, it was a "casual" console and brought it in a huge audience with it's fun to use controller and casual games, which is respectable.
The WiiU however is trying to be "hardcore" while the next generation of hardcore consoles is right around the corner carrying shotguns and baseball bats covered in nails, it's not gonna be pretty.
I don't want to go over your "facts" but i will get this one thing sorted out.
The 360 is using a gpu near equivalent to a X1950 XT while the Wii U is using a custom chip which we unfortunatly do not know but it runs using the R770 which powers the 4850 & 4870 Still some powerful cards today as their age is.
However if we place a bet that it'll be near the power of the 4870 if battlefield got ported to it, it could probably run it quiet nicely on 1080p 60fps @ around med/high, that is just a prediction and should not be taken seriously.
A fucking tablet for a controller? This looks fun as hell.
And expensive.
Here come the $80 controllers with only one bundled with your console.

You can only use one a system though. The game uses regular wii motes for everything else so most people will be able to play multiplayer games right off the bat. So you will only need the one that it came with.

Heard a while back Nintendo was trying to make two work.
At least thats better than one.
Heard a while back Nintendo was trying to make two work.

Sounds like that could be hard to do since it would mean the wii would have to handle 2 hd screens.
Sounds like that could be hard to do since it would mean the wii would have to handle 2 hd screens.
Solution would be to only have one of the two controllers use the screen, and give the players the ability to swap who has the screen and who hasn't.
Of course that would imply proper, clever gameplay mechanics that go with that idea.
Nintendo should just go third party
I will get this for Smash Bros and Smash Bros alone.
I will get this for Smash Bros and Smash Bros alone.
I was thinking the same thing, though I remember hearing somewhere that Wii U doesn't work with a gamecube controller. I won't get it if that is the case.

Yeah that is one thing turning me off, I hated the Wii controls for Brawl. If they improve the controls I'm all for it.

Wii's Classic Controller is good enough imo.
Nintendo should just go third party
Why?
they're one of the only companies left with innovative consoles and unique games
Can't wait for the crazy homebrew people will make with the controller. All the better if big devs catch on.
Seriously, my dream of a a combination rts/fps is coming true
Hopefully there will be a majority of games that are actually good and not just a bunch of "Yay Fun Party Time Games Rated Infant!" games that have spread like the plague on the Wii. I'll stay tuned on this one.
Yeah that is one thing turning me off, I hated the Wii controls for Brawl. If they improve the controls I'm all for it.
Why didn't you use the GameCube controller?
Better not have terrible graphics. I know graphics don't make a game but fucking hell nintendo, when are you gonna catch up?
[editline]27th January 2012[/editline]
It's kinda hard to tell how good the graphics are based on that tech demo.
I'm watching with a watchful eye, if they can get beyond remakes I'll consider getting one.
I'll like it only if the inevitable Mario Kart game takes pictures of your face when you're blue shell'd.

Here's another one, this is apparently all rendered in real time

Looks pretty damn nice, it's already better than the 360 and ps3 easily (visually)
Why?

For you can play their games on a system you already own, like 360, PS3, PC, smartphones etc.
Sucks having to pay $250 in order to pay $40+ on a game.
Oh thank God! I've been waiting forever to get another console so I can play the same 6 games I've been playing since 1995...
wiiu will have NFC support

I'll only get a Wii U due to the large amount of exclusive games it will likely have. I have a PC that does everything else.
