Looks like they opened fire.
Look's like stop posting. Also I'm totally in awe of how highly trained soldiers managed to mistake children with wood as hostile enemies. I have to imagine a hostile enemy holds his AK a little differently than a 9 year old with a piece of wood. Fuck me that's sad.
Gun cams are not high res....
That absolutely doesn't matter in this case The helicopters circled around the kids, howeverd over them, before taking distance and firing. In terms of airforces thats hell of a lot of time to recognize that they were fucking kids and not some adult men. I hope their fellow crewmembers hate them and will make their lifes miserable during their service time

And your post lacks direction. "In terms of airforces"? Or in terms of time on targets? Either way it comes down to discretion. The pilots don't know what the kids are doing. There have been stores where kids were playing with broken AK's where they were shot because they aimed them at coalition forces. You don't have time to think "Hey, maybe that weapon is inert. It's harmless.", it comes down to what you see in that moment. When Russia was in Afghanistan soldiers were shot by nine year olds with AK's, mainly for the fact they trusted the children, because you don't think a nine year old could do something like that. You don't know for a fact what people are capable of.

Wow what the fuck. Sup we're NATO if we accidentally kill your child sorry but we have stupid dumbfucks in helicopters that can't tell anything from a gun. Thanks NATO, I'm unhappy now you cunts.
The difference between children and adults is that children are really fucking small compared to adults. I thought they taught that to the pilots in the air force.
Lol, I remember the USA Helicopter incident and everyone raged mostly because it was USA. Now, people are more understanding. Typical FP.
No, there are still idiots running rampant in this thread saying it was the US that caused this to occur, even though it was already stated that they are NATO troops. Hell, NATO is even in the fucking title and these half wits can not figure it out.
Guys, mistakes happen. They didn't do it on purpose, they weren't out there to kill civilians for fun. Human errors occurred and they're sorry about it. Sure, it's heartbreaking and we can just rant on for hours but it was an accident. Just have to let it go.
Fuck the airforce, fuck the army. I hope those trigger happy idiots get shot down for their "mistake" [editline]4th March 2011[/editline] People should not tolerate "mistakes". And eye for an eye bitch.
makes the whole world blind use your fucking head for something other than a paperweight for once mistakes and accidents happen, i'm not defending the pilots or their irrational actions, but you're being a huge dumbass for ripping on them like this and the obligatory "hurr durr they made a mistake so i hope they get shot down and killed/captured by enemy forces hurr durr :downs:"
US airforce kills targets: plenty opfor: loads allied forces: minimal civillians: few US army airforce: targets: practically none american troops: 6000 british servicemen: 400000 civillians: 50000 US Navy airforce targets: 6000 allied forces: very little american troops: virtually none Nato airforce: targets 3000 friendly's: 67 civillians: 6+9 RAF Targets: 7067 Friendly's: minimal opfor: 5000 civillians: minimal Libya Targets: 0 Friendly's: 600 Civillians: 4000 most airforce pilots are very trigger happy . and usually are fed misleading intel. whatever they see that they can't identify, they blow it up this is a tragedy, but however we should expect these kinds of accidents involving the air force. also the wood they were carrying could have been passed of as disposible rocket launchers, they can't be perfectly projected on the thermal sights as logs
Did you pull those numbers out of your ass or do you actually have a source for them?
I'd imagine it was oddly shaped sticks like these rather than clearly cut blocks: It's still a pretty big difference from a rifle.
you all act like you've been up in a helicopter with a low-res guncam
Proof ? The US has over 90 thousand soldiers there the UK has less than 15 thousand. I think the odds are that the US has killed more civilians than what the UK has. But they are both as bad as each other really. Also it seems as though they are retards who do seem to not even confirm their targets before they shoot at them. If this happened in the US everybody in charge would be screaming war crimes but because it has happened in Afghan no one really gives a shit and it will be forgotten about in no less than a month.
I know kids like you think they're immortal or some shit from playing CoD all day, but if you get hurt in real life, a medkit doesn't instantly heal it, and if you die, you're fucking dead. You don't respawn. You usually don't have time to absolutely positively make sure that the team icon is over their head, FYI. What if they WERE insurgents and had an RPG? Goodbye NATO.
I got an idea, get the fuck out of the country. there will be less deaths all around
It's like the time they mistook a god damn handheld small ass camera for an RPG in that Wikileaks video.
How the fuck did fucking helicopter gunners with high resolution gun cams manage a fuck-up this colossal?
They've done it several other times.
Am I the only one who sees artillery in that picture?
I just see a pile of mortars and AK-47s.
I got an idea, get the fuck out of the country. there will be less deaths all around
Maybe the Taliban will be visited by the ghosts of christmas and repent their ways. Fun fact - in 2009, the Taliban were responsible for 76% of civilian casualties. This is a very horrible accident, but it doesn't mean we should just "bail out", so to speak.
We need to just jump ship. You can't force the ideals of a democracy on these guys anyways. We are making too many mistakes over there. I wish the US government would just admit they fucked up, and pull all the troops home.
NATO =/= US Army.
But WHO Started it in the first place? Hint: it starts with a U
Usama bin Laden?
Yes, but they were collecting rocket propelled firewood, the number one danger to helicopters!
Wood doesn't give off heat, nor does an unfired rocket...all they see is something long and thin being held by people of indeterminate height in an area that had just been the base of several insurgents firing on a US base.
Wood doesn't give off heat, nor does an unfired rocket...all they see is something long and thin being held by people of indeterminate height in an area that had just been the base of several insurgents firing on a US base.
Obviously reason enough to shoot it right, i mean... fuck checking what it is when we can search the bodies later.
slightly related to the subject http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=9f6_1299131696 Shows afghan children playing suicide bomber
And I bet you wouldn't have to search very hard to find elementary school students in the west who have done similar out on the playground.
How the fuck did fucking helicopter gunners with high resolution gun cams manage a fuck-up this colossal?
"high resolution" That isn't exactly true
"high resolution" That isn't exactly true
I think he is mistaking the current generation Apache gun cameras for the previous generation ones. The US apaches have had a serious overhaul to their FLIR systems in the past couple of years (The arrowhead system), which gives them a very high resolution picture. All of the misidentifications of targets that I know of which involve US gunships predate the inclusion of the upgrade or were on helicopters not outfitted with it. Other Apaches (IE NATO issued apaches) are unlikely to be using the upgrade quite yet and do not possess the high resolution image.
