EA's Origin service fucks up, offers infinite $20 off coupons, possibly banning users which took adv

Are you using http://store.origin.com/?ipr=ty
I just downloaded NFS HP with that link, Didnt work with the rest.
Aww, was hoping I could get some money off of BF3.
Actually "fixing the problem" could take time, something that millions of users who know about an exploit are going to use to exploit it even more. Banning grievous exploiters as a warning and threatening bans of future exploiters is a good move to make in terms of actually getting the thing fixed whilst taking minimal losses (the people who are now all going "OMG NEVUR BUYEN GAEM AGAIN LOL!!!" were all probably shit customers anyway so no loss there).
Exploiting something like this massively just screams entitlement complex, just because someone fucks up doesn't mean you have a right to exploit that fuck up to such an extent they have to actually start taking action against you. It just makes you look like a massive asshole.
Steam removed those leaked dirt 3 codes pretty fast so, EA should be able to do similar I'd assume.
Uh, no shit?
When did I say they should ban people who just use it once. Key word is EXPLOIT. If you're using it once it's how it was meant to be used. If you're making new accounts to get new games you're not someone who "didn't know this was bad".
if you're making mass accounts and trying to afterwards sell games from this
well people that do that are just clearly gigantic cunts, that would just be far obvious exploitation
my mentality is that many exploited sales wouldn't have had a sale in the first place, and they aren't all physical copies, so it's a very different scenario.
plus the codes still active, even though it's viral, why isn't EA actually fixing it already?
lol, if someone went inside and committed burglary into a house accidently left open, you'd guys would say the burglar should be let go cause it's the house owner's fault for leaving the door open
yes because the physical word and an unlimited amount of digital sales that most likely wouldn't have been sold in the first place is exactly the same thing :downs:
It's more like going into the store and grabbing a can of soup that is 1.00 and then using a coupon for $1.00 off soup and then buying all the soup in the store for free.
"no officer, it wasn't my fault, he left the house open, it's his fault that i burglarized it!"
Actually, no one would say that. If you leave your house wide open, and you notice what's going on and don't stop the problem. Then it should show that nothing is being done, and everyone is looting and robbing the place to no end. If a whole city robbed a house, what would the police do? Arrest the whole population or do nothing?
It's more like going into the store and grabbing a can of soup that is 1.00 and then using a coupon for $1.00 off soup and then buying all the soup in the store for free.
And the coupon system is broken in the store, So you keep going back.
EA had a huge timeframe, they knew the code was causing this and they had the PERFECT TIME TO DEACTIVATE THE CODE before everyone got advantage of it. EA just said fuck it and let it continue. I would have deactivated the code while the damage was done, and ban the accounts that did the most damage, and left it at that.

extreme couponing origin edition
Would buying it from US site allow it to work here? (UK)
It's more like going into the store and grabbing a can of soup that is 1.00 and then using a coupon for $1.00 off soup and then buying all the soup in the store for free.
the difference is that those soups are all actually physical and were garunteed sales
This is the opposite of that. I still wouldn't pirate however.
Just assume those soup cans all were infinitely duplicateable but still had luxury value with no cost and that's what this is.
We're in a thread about how EA is closing and banning accounts who are abusing this system and you're asking me for a source?
yep, you said EA talked about it, therefore I want you to back that up

if you seriously need an authority figure telling you to stop doing what you know is exploitation, i dont know what to say lol

What you think should have happened is totally different what is probably going to happen.
All I'm saying is that you guys are going into this, knowing the risks, and are so naive to think that there won't be some sort of consequence because of it. And when the question of consequence does come up, you justify your actions by saying that you had no choice but to take advantage of this mistake.

These games were also physical via the internet, and the sales were garunteed. People caught on the problem and exploited it. EA had 5 hours, 5 HOURS to fix this problem. And the only thing they did was ban probably 100 people.
if you seriously need an authority figure telling you to stop doing what you know is exploitation, i dont know what to say lol
How is this exploitation.
People keep repeating that it is exploiting something without ever actually saying how.

I'm sorry but, no one is saying "that you had no choice but to take advantage of this mistake."
I have to call that out as something that sounds a bit too knigtly, it sounds silly because... no one did. No one's justifying it, just saying EA shouldn't have a broken system.
and please don't bring up a comparison with soup or a bike, this is digital.

They can ban me for all I care, I went in to this and I encourage them to ban me. It's only fair. But they have done nothing, and the code is still active. From 12 PM to 12 AM over where I'm at.
yep, you said EA talked about it, therefore I want you to back that up
yeah uhm, just because no one is stopping you from doing what you know is breaking the rule immediately, doesn't mean you're entitled to get away lol
im no fan of EA, but i just find the constant self-justification absolutely hilarious
Would buying it from US site allow it to work here? (UK)
Anyone? I'm talking about BF3 by the way.

That isn't someone who works at EA. "I got Dragon Age but I also got the email" isn't an official thing from EA. I need the actual email.
yeah uhm, just because no one is stopping you from doing what you know is breaking the rule immediately, doesn't mean you're entitled to get away lol

How is using a coupon breaking a rule?
Another justification.
Keep telling me you're not trying to justify this. It's hilarious.
I really don't think we need to justify this other than "an exploit in the system gives us the ability to get good games for free, we should use it because we like games and don't feel like paying for them"

A random comment from someone who isn't from EA.
Just because they say it happened doesn't mean it's true. Unless we get some photo evidence or statements from EA then I probably won't believe it.
maybe ea doesnt know about it because they never pay attention to their consumers
yeah uhm, just because no one is stopping you from doing what you know is breaking the rule immediately, doesn't mean you're entitled to get away lol

Except EA lost a lot of profit today, if EA wanted to stop this they would have disabled the code and banned people who exploited it. It's not self-justification. I feel like an asshole for doing what I did, but the games I got were all games I purchased before, but never found the original CD Key or disc.
That isn't someone who works at EA. "I got Dragon Age but I also got the email" isn't an official thing from EA. I need the actual email.
Well then keep up abusing the system and maybe you'll get one of your very own!
How is using a coupon breaking a rule?
using a coupon isn't breaking the rules, using infinite numbers of them and knowingly doing it is lol

Are you in denial?
How is this exploitation.

You have violated the Terms of Use of the coupon. It is exploiting.
