The transaction was fully complete when the system spat out a game key. From that moment onward, there is nothing EA can do about it.
My aunt was a lawyer, I want to know what she thinks of this. And what EA can do. Can EA get fucked over or can we get fucked over for this. EA can probably place charges against IP's that are repeat offenders for theft.
i got dragon age: origins, bf2, bc2, bc2 vietnam, moh, bf2142, bulletstorm, sim city 4, the saboteur, and burnout. im done
I wonder if EA will sue everyone that used these codes multiple times. It's a lot of people and they would surely get more then what they lost today, so I wouldn't really doubt that they will do more then just ban accounts.
They can't sue anyone for anything. EA is in the worst position with a few choices. Choice 1: Try to revoke most games (People angry they lose their games, especially if they did the survey.) Choice 2: Remove games only if you got multiple Choice 3: Ban everyone who did it multiple times (Multiple shit storms ensue especially with EAs already bad standing online and peoples hate for origin.) Choice 4: Do nothing (Massive loss profit) Choice 2 is probably the best choice for them.
Does it still work? It isn't for me
Just now added a couple more games to my account without issue, keep in mind you can only add up to 3 games per account even when clearing cookies.
Damn no longer works and yea i did do what everyone else has been doing. Could only Dead Space.

As the system also shoots out receipts, all you have to do is show that and its solid to protect you. They allowed you to purchase the game at no cost and let it go through.

So far I can see me getting charged for Theft on multiple cases. And without proof I legally bought most of these games I'm fucked. I do believe EA will attempt to take this to court.

This isnt a one big lawsuit thing, they are going to have to do it on a individual basis and they wont waste their time and money.

Plus how could they pin it on just IPs? Don't some change all the time? Like dynamic IPs or whatever?
Why do people say this? I got 4 so far.
Because it only let me add 3 to my accounts before it stops working. I guess it's hit and miss.

And EA can always say that the code used was exploited in an illegal way, and could be considered theft. I know I'm very paranoid, but this is EA were talking about. I wouldn't really see Valve doing this, but EA banned accounts just for exploiting in Battlefield. This is taking it up to a whole new ballpark.

Pretty sure that's still fraud one way or another. I'm not convinced that EA can't do anything about it.

When the price is 0 dollars it simply does not ask for it.
Anyway, I'm just a little paranoid that's all. EA won't take this sitting down, I think the worst they can do right now is ban every account that has done this multiple times. Which is fine with me.
Does this work for the BC2 vietnam DLC?

Pretty sure that's still fraud one way or another. I'm not convinced that EA can't do anything about it.
It was a code generated by EA and accepted by their systems. They messed it up and allowed it to be used multiple times instead of generating a one-off code for each survey taker and they took atleast 10+ hours to do a single thing about it. They tried doing something earlier on by limiting it to one use per account and not shutting it off. As I said before, when the system spits out a game key, the transaction is fully complete and there is nothing more EA can do. EA is at the most fault here. The credit card comparison is not valid as you had to steal that number in the first place and use it against the actual owners wishes. This code was made by EA and they set the system up horribly and it was obviously abused on a massive scale and they did nothing for hours.
EA should have just canceled the code when they found out it was broken. Don't just assume it's a click of a button.
Sometimes things that sound so simple might actually be more complicated than you think. Don't just assume it's a click of a button.
I'm pretty sure they would have measures in case something like this happened. Valve had removed most of the Dirt 2 games and deactivated the keys an hour in. EA took a long time to catch on, and another hour or 2 to deactivate the code.
And for those of you who think they won't ban people for exploiting a glitch: They've done it before. http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/11/14/ea-bans-battlefield-3-accounts-following-bug-exploit And that was just for a game. You're fucking about in their business territory with this.
something tells me you're the type justify someone being sued for millions of dollars for pirating a 1$ song.
Sometimes things that sound so simple might actually be more complicated than you think. Don't just assume it's a click of a button.
if they don't record who uses what coupons then that's actually quite sad because I'm pretty sure that they would have had that, especially by now... Steam was able to fix, within an hour, a huge CD key leak, without banning.
A really easy fix is to just remove game licenses from everyone who used the code multiple times. They will have a hard time bitching about EA revoking free games because they used a coupon code over and over.
Does this work for the BC2 vietnam DLC?
yes
It didn't even bother asking about credit cards for most people.
See if EA was doing this right. They would have made a lot of keys instead of using one. From the looks of it the survey only generated that one key. EA didn't really make this so no one could exploit it. And it would really look bad for EA to sue. Which I don't think EA cares about in this point and time.
EA was too distracted whipping their employees to remove the code.

It isnt easy at all to do that and ensure they no longer have access.
By the way, for those wondering why it took so long, remember its a weekend.
By the way, for those wondering why it took so long, remember its a weekend.
That actually does make sense.
