• EA's Origin service fucks up, offers infinite $20 off coupons, possibly banning users which took adv
See if EA was doing this right. They would have made a lot of keys instead of using one. From the looks of it the survey only generated that one key. EA didn't really make this so no one could exploit it. And it would really look bad for EA to sue. Which I don't think EA cares about in this point and time.
No, they would have generated a coupon on the fly that would give the same x off and one time use not have a single code. [editline]14th October 2012[/editline]
By the way, for those wondering why it took so long, remember its a weekend.
"TOD GET IN THE GOD DAMN OFFICE AND TURN THIS COUPON OFF RIGHT NOW ITS A EMERGENCY" Phone calls are extremely simple to make, even at 2 in the morning.
I can forsee EA banning accounts, and threaten them to either remove the game, and show proof they did, or action will be taken. Deactivating the code and banning won't do much as most of the game on Origin do not require Origin running to be launched. Similar to steam, unless the game from steam if from Valve.
something tells me you're the type justify someone being sued for millions of dollars for pirating a 1$ song.
Nope. I'm simply giving you the facts. You're just speculating. My entire point is that people who are acting like they are entitled to this and that it's EA's fault they are abusing this system are assholes. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying people should be put in jail, I'm not saying you SHOULD be banned, or whatever the hell you think I'm saying. I'm just speculating about the outcome of this, and how you guys are going to react because of it. People who download a song for $1 and try to justify it passed "I just wanted a song and didn't want to pay for it" are assholes too. I saw the same shit when MegaUpload was canned. People bitched because they couldn't watch their TV shows or download whatever for free and tried to justify their outrage, when in simply comes down to the fact that they just didn't want to pay for whatever the hell they were downloading.
OH YES EA I TOTALLY UNINSTALLED THE SIMS 2 AND THE OTHER STUFF YES I WILL NEVER USE IT AGAIN *click* *reinstall games with same keys whilst blocking any call home features*
Then honestly, what can EA do? They won't take this sitting down, and they have nothing to do besides sue or just sit there and take it like a man. And from the looks of it, EA never does option 2.
Nope. I'm simply giving you the facts. You're just speculating. Actually I wasn't justifying downloading a song, rather pointing out that radical action against it isn't justifiable, and that you might have agreed with that, because as assumed you would agree with this
And if they ban the account/remove games, you can't reinstall, update, or go online with them.

Megaupload was used to share files. I only used Megaupload to get GMOD, Sim City, and other mods. I rarely even used it, unless I was going on a mod spree. Megaupload should have never been canned.
Knowing this will turn into a Anti-EA shitmccockle, I think i should post this now. I think that EA cannot do anything except remove, This was a coupon they made, Not some sort of hack and as long as you kept it down to the one game rule, I think you would be fine legal wise.
Except EA can't sue due to things like dynamic IPs and VPNs. And if they ban the account/remove games, you can't reinstall, update, or go online with them.
This is true, the only way you can actually keep these games is to move them to a disc. Even then, I think it would require you to use an Origin account. So legal wise can be thrown out the window right now.
Except EA can't sue due to things like dynamic IPs and VPNs. And if they ban the account/remove games, you can't reinstall, update, or go online with them.
plus IP's are not people.
plus IP's are not people.
That's what I am saying. Suing based on IP would be EA equating IPs to people.
plus IP's are not people.
This is also true. My neighbor used to leach from our internet at one point, and possibly downloaded who knows what under us. So there is a good defense if they decide to take action.
EA should have just canceled the code when they found out it was broken. It escapes me why on earth they took so long to shut down the code.
The code still works BTW
The code still works BTW
Really? God dammit EA just deactivate it and send out a new one or something. It's looking as if they are BEGGING for people to do this.
The code still works BTW
They dont care anymore if this is true
hell seeing how big EA is how didn't someone see this? Steam had something like this and BAM, stopped. This coupon was posted 16 hours ago, and likely way more than FP used it. I mean if they did, this is literally watching people walk out of your stores with unpaid for TV's and ignoring them, even though it's obviously wrong. You could call 911, or lock down the TV's and put up a preventative measure.

I can see someone at EA calling up someone and saying "GOD DAMMIT EVERYONE IS ABUSING THAT CODE DAN GET YOUR ASS TO WORK AND STOP IT" But it's the weekend and all, I doubt EA opens on the weekend.
But it's the weekend and all, I doubt EA opens on the weekend.
I am pretty sure a massive company like EA doesn't just stop all activity on the weekend.

If EA really wanted to ban the accounts using the code, Why haven't they already done so? They know about it already They did the same thing with Mirror's Edge and Dead Space awhile back, Yet I know people who did it and still has it.
I would understand slow on the draw on the weekend. But like what if their servers went down saturday morning? An entire weekend with no servers would be devastating profitwise.
post
Ah, so in their ToS EA never said they will sue you for doing this. So there is a good sigh of relief for me.
I got 6 games, i hope they stay.
Ah, so in their ToS EA never said they will sue you for doing this. So there is a good sigh of relief for me.
I'm not sure why you thought they would sue you lol.
a
So they are just going to up and ban thousands of accounts and make the biggest shit storm the gaming industry has ever seen? I will love to get front row tickets to that event. [sp]They will not do it as I said before, the transaction is complete and they allowed it with a coupon they made. Their arguments will never hold up in a court/arbitrator[/sp]
I'm not sure why you thought they would sue you lol.
besides the fact I'm paranoid as shit, I would think this was theft in some way. I mean I got 5-6 games from this cause of one code, I would think EA wouldn't just ban me cause I still got the games installed and all.
