The markets just opened also and its currently at 13.40 so its getting close to friday close.
[editline]15th October 2012[/editline]
Just shot up above friday close so nothing to worry about for ea.
Nope, and they're not planning to ban anybody or do anything at all (confirmed by Sam "QforQ" Houston)
Link to post please?
At least they're trying to recuperate by allowing everyone to have those free games. They could've just as easily removed the cheated games/banned a few people.
something tells me though really don't have a choice, to be fair.
You do have a point but that would have fucked them badly.
if a car is unlocked is it okay to steal it?

Some of the posts on the Origin forum are cracking me the fuck up:
In the same boat. If EA does not fix this for the people that wanted to use the coupon to buy a game, before oct 21st as posted, Im going to Best Buy and canceling my pre-order of both NFS and MoH. Might as well just steal them because it sure looks like that what they support. Not paying customers.
Seriously bitching about the coupon being deleted.
Allow me to put this into perspective for those who don't seem to get it.
A service was rendered, here. The agreement was that we take a survey and the payment would be $20 off of one game purchase of $19.99 or more, with some restrictions. That was a fair deal, as many people agree.
The code offered was a universal code, one that could be obtained without completing the survey, and used multiple times. This is the fault of EA who obviously does not understand the internet at all.
Upon realizing their mistake, EA immediately broke the code so no one else could abuse it, but they left the survey up. While the survey was still offering the $20 coupon as payment, EA was not. As such, they are now getting free information by offering a bogus payment. This is known as scamming people.
When confronted on this issue, EA has chosen to respond by honoring the purchases of those who abused the system and not the coupons obtained by those wanting to use it properly after the fact. They have rewarded the abusers and punished their customers.
Believe me, for some of these people, it is no idle threat to take this to court. The e-mail clearly states that there is a payment offered for completing the survey, a payment that has yet to be given to those of us completing it on the second day and after. $20 is not the only thing at stake here. That is merely payment for services rendered. There is also the ability to have them pay the court costs and to force them to offer compensation to those who did work for them and have yet to receive their payment.
If a payment is not given in some fashion to the amount of $20 to spend on an item of our choice, then this survey is a scam, something not tolerated by the BBB or the internet at large. EA is in for a world of hurt if it doesn't get its act together. While I, personally, will not be doing anything, I know how the internet works.
EA will feel the burn on this one.
Threatening to take EA to court over a $20 coupon code. And trying to make himself sound like he knows what he's talking about, and then bring up the BBB as if money doesn't run the BBB anyways.
Yay, then I guess I'll get to keep all my awesome new games :D
Thanks EA!

if anyone is acting self entitled, it's those guys.
Seriously, how more insane can these idiots be?
So people who did the survey and were actually entitled to a coupon for $20 off a single game, valid until the 21st, are the ones acting self-entitled?
I'm siding with them in this one. It was a dickmove from EA, and the best solution would have been fixing the system for the codes to make them one-use-per-account or changing it to a random one-use code generator, and letting people continue using it.

I think it would be nice, but the coupon was up for over 24 hours and was obviously being abused, so EA wasn't going to just let it stay until the 21st, to think that would be preposterous moreso than it already was. I think that maybe they should just give the few people whining a coupon and they'd be happy but I doubt not giving them one is going to get them into court like people are threatening.
Just seen the article.
Yay free games.
A part of me wishes I had got more games now.
Why the fuck cant I purchase Battlefield 2142 with pay pal? Only reason I downloaded orgin after seeing this thread.

So...EA is gonna resend 20 dollar off codes to those who actually did the survey.
Why do i feel like it's gonna happen again.

We can only hope...
Definitely not gonna work again
it's a different code though, so where's that survey?

EA's reaction to this whole thing (aka letting everyone keep their games and avoid a huge PR nightmare) was the correct action and it paid off.

Nah it'll be random. I did that survey though for real. Guess I can grab another game.

What this man forgets is that these companies always reserve the right to cut off or shut down anything anytime they want. Just gotta read the fine print.

They would've taken a beating if they made a fuss about it and handed out punishments.
edit: I was agreeing with the guy I quoted who you disagreers agreed with BTW, defy logic more
EA is owned by shareholders, so you gotta get into the minds of one of those guys to figure how their stock is going to do.
They would've taken a beating if they made a fuss about it and handed out punishments.
Only if they lost money, or there was some imminent danger than would constitute selling out, like there was a massive internet uproar and everyone suddenly uninstalled origin.
Else the stock just keeps fluctuating.
They made around $35 million this year, which is up by $347 million than last year, their assets are all stable and >0.
That stock has nowhere to go but up.

Or putting a special flag on their account that says "This user gets $20 off his/her next purchase"
that's how I'd do it anyway

As software its fine, but as a business platform it tries to monopolize the distribution of EA's games which I don't agree with.

I agree, and was adding to what jord said - it's only as bad as they make it out to be.
Call me crazy, but I feel bad for EA. Sure EA is a deadful ugly fat company but think about it, all of these games people got for free and they are letting people walk free. It is a massive monetary loss(even though they are filthy rich) and will impact them nonetheless. They probably couldn't remove the games without people making a filthy reaction and possibly involving the law.

Game exclusive on origin: What the fuck is this shit holy fuck EA why.
Game exclusive on steam: (no comments given)

By that logic, surely you don't agree with Steam trying to monopolize the distribution of Valve's games, yes?
