Isn't it more expensive to do the death penalty than life in prison?
pretty sure it ain't that simple. any court case can become really fucking expensive if it's drawn out.

And he still has to consume food and see to other needs which require energy.
So at the end of the day, I don't think he will be any more beneficial/detrimental to society alive than dead. Marginally beneficial at best to keep him alive, if even that.
"Hey, we found your son guilty of murder. We might kill him later, but we'll see."
"Alright, we've decided to kill him next October 12. Hire a lawyer to convince us otherwise."
"Nope! Not convincing enough, we're still going to kill him."
"Still not convinced. 1 year left."
"Right to life? Your son killed a man with a wife and three kids! Of course he deserves to die! 6 months left, by the way."
"Hey, we're going to kill your son next week. Wanna say goodbye?"
"Sorry we killed your son, but hey, he was a murderer, right? One less dangerous man in society!"
Even if he was given the death penalty he won't be executed anyway, he'll spend the rest of his life in prison as it'll take too long to carry out the sentence
