WikiLeaks cyberattacks now involve Visa, Facebook, Twitter, MasterCard

This is all dumb. I agree that the way wikileaks and Julian Assange are being treated is unfair (I'm no expert on the first amendment but this seems to be violating it), but taking down sites that other people need to use doesn't make any sense.

Fuck this, the 4chan apologists are already swarming onto this thread like flies to shit. It's just a matter of time until they start posting image macros. I missed when Garry actually cracked down on these cunts.
I don't even know how to respond to how stupid your comment/assumption that I support 4chan is, so i'm just going to give my opinion on this situation as a whole, since that's what forums are for, not personal attacks.
The bank being taken down was too much, but major corporations should be prepared for this kind of thing. Hate it all you want, but people will always do this kind of crap, so if companies would learn from this example and take precautions, it would be much harder for a bunch of kids with software to take down a website. It's a well know fact that "anonymous" lash's out when it feels wronged, and if the banks/companies did not expect any kind of retaliation, then maybe now they know better.
Wikileaks was also a customer and THEIR flow of income was disrupted because VISA would rather cover their own ass then look after a customer.
Think about people other than yourself
I am thinking about other people INCLUDING myself, maybe you should consider the fact that wikileaks and some australian guy isn't quite as important as thousands of businesses around the world, which pay for thousands of people's living expenses. There's also the fact that WikiLeaks doesn't endorse this and doesn't want this happening.
Because an entire thread is all of Facepunch.
Also, there's nothing at all any of you people can do here to help the situaiton other than getting really mad and giving me boxes.
Moderators have banned people for being half as dumb as you are.
Didn't anyone realize that getting you people mad was the entire point of all of this?

What about the rest of my post
You could be put in the same spot as WL and you'd want someone to come to your aid, wouldn't you?

Then I'll get really mad and give you boxes!
Wikileaks was also a customer and THEIR flow of income was disrupted because VISA/Paypal/Google Checkout would rather cover their own ass. How would you like it if someone in the government called them up and said "Brohoster is hosting inappropriate anti-government sites! Stop all of their payments!" and they obliged?

Wikileaks VS EVERYONE ELSE.

A bunch of basement dwelling 15 year olds causing trouble for the rest of the world making me look bad would not be what I want. I'd rather have a company who can process payments for me come up and help me.
Then I will get really mad and give you boxes.
And I will feed off your mad and store the rest of it in the boxes for later.
And thus a symbiosis was formed.
Wikileaks VS EVERYONE ELSE.
It's an issue of principle

I bet Wikileaks wanted that as well
Hey, im all for protesting for Assange, but not like this. This is fucking stupid

Looks like its back to donations by mail. Until the postal service starts refusing to deliver anything to them :P
I bet Wikileaks wanted that as well
Do you seriously think WikiLeaks wants this kind of publicity? The news and the common media-absorbing citizen is going to instantly hate them for it thus making them even worse off.

Bad reading
You're bitching that Paypal can't process your payments
I'm betting that Wikileaks, as a Paypal customer, would have liked them to continue processing THEIR donations as well
I followed up by asking how you'd feel if the government didn't approve of your site and pressured paypal into shutting down your payments

I was referring to your 'as well', which means you're including this whole cyberattack thing in what they want.

That's not even close to what I was saying, I have no idea how you could even have inferred that
And you continue dodging the question

Wikileaks gets its products from the Aether, or sources... I don't know. But JWJ's company has actual services that NEED timely processing. Assange can fall back to carrier pigeons before JWJ's business has to start to suffer.

He's already acknowledged that it must be terrible for them. He's allowed to voice his unhappiness about being affected by this on top of that.
I don't see what the huge faux-pas is here.
On my last count there were NINE Wikileaks-related threads (not counting the LOIC thread) on the front page of In The News. Just throwing that out there.
I'm starting to think there needs to be some sort of Megathread for this.
Now it affects everybody, good fucking job.

I PM'd Hezzy 2 days ago about making a Megathread, he hasn't gotten back to me yet.
I just sent him a message on steam, hopefully he gets back to me on this; this shit is getting out of control, to the point where we can't even find other news threads.

You, sir, are a model of proactive activity.
I'll discuss it with Dai next I talk to him. Dunno if he's back from his trip or not, or just sleeping.

I asked both Gunfox and RavenQ on steam and they both told me to ask Hezzy/Gestapo, apparently you cannot make a megathread in the news section without permission from him.
I even have the entire OP in word right now ready to be Ctrl + V'd into a new thread post, I'm on top of shit right now.
You know what, I'm not going to wait another 24 hours for a response I'm just going to make it.
you go girl

Sounds like a reasonable enough rule.
I just hate coming to ITN and seeing a billion Wikileaks threads. Generally speaking, they all have the same types of posts in them.
Several people: Fuck the government!
More people: Bandwagon!
One or two people: [insert reasonable argument]
No it's not. It maybe a bit slow, but you think paypal isn't used to this kind of thing? They receive constant heavy traffic, and if they have failed to take them down yet, I doubt its going to happen.
You're making some generalized statements here. 'Oh well they usually get lots of traffic so a DDoS won't affect their services' seems to be what you're saying, which is clearly wrong.
Don't tell the man who's having problems with PayPal that he's not having problems with PayPal.
I'm positive paypal has already put up more defenses.
How would you know that? What are these 'defenses' you speak of? Stop talking out of your ass.
And all the site going up and down would affect is how long it took to recive your payments. A bank transfer takes 3 days anyway, so it's not like its killing you.
Paypal transfers go through more or less instantly for me, as far as I'm aware.
It's a well know fact that "anonymous" lash's out when it feels wronged, and if the banks/companies did not expect any kind of retaliation, then maybe now they know better.
How exactly were anonymous 'wronged'? They weren't involved until they decided to get involved. Despite all the media hype about Anonymous, and for all their raids both online and offline, nobody outside of Internet culture really pays that much attention to them.
These businesses are going about running a business, the antics bored teenagers get up to in their spare time isn't really a top priority for them, and these DDoS attacks (which never accomplish anything anyway) are just inconveniencing everyone.
I don't even know how to respond to how stupid your comment/assumption that I support 4chan is
You say that, but then you go on to say that Anonymous lashes out when it feels wronged. It's hard to justify their actions in this particular case, because they weren't even directly involved when they decided to DDoS those companies, but you're definitely trying your hardest to defend them.
And your statement about how the banks/companies should have expected this kind of 'retaliation' sounds like some sort of romanticized perspective on Anonymous's DDoS attacks. It's a major inconvenience and an immature stunt which is affecting everyone using those services, but its not exactly something that poses an actual threat to those companies.

Of course he can be pissed off, I never said he couldn't, but I felt the need to point out a slight hypocrisy
This is like a double-edged sword.
This is like a double-edged sword.
This as in service ddosing? It has only one side then.
Cool. Cyber war. LET'S FUCK SHIT UP.
