Like, seriously, the only reason people really use steam is "it has all the games" and "i can chat i guess" Nobody downloads steam because they prefer the super cool protection or unprecedented community features, they get it because there's really no other choice.
In all fairness, 2 factor authentication is a really good feature, and more services should take advantage of it. Of course everyone would prefer no DRM, but Steam's is literally "you have to login to our service", and in return you can install your games to as many machines as you want and download them as many times as you want. Its the lesser of the evils.
We get games cheaper than America here :c
We get outrageous as fuck prices here, in Poland. I have never bought anything on Steam at a full price because everything there is usually about 50-150% more expensive than in retail. Take Gun Metal, for example. Its price is 8,99€, while I remember buying a retail copy roughly 10 years ago for about 2,2€ and it was not on a discount, it simply was its full price.
All digital game stores should learn this:
252 countries? Where did that 50 come from?????? Eh, probably country/region political bullshit. Or there's a continent that only GoG knows about.

I, for one, like steam because, yes, i can chat but I can download and install my games anywhere. also i can launch my games from one screen instead of having 9001 icons on my desktop/starmenu/whatever.

What about Steam Workshop, I don't see that as a feature on many of the other clients. I use steam because I don't see any real reason to switch, it's got everything I need and I very rarely if ever have any issues with it. You don't speak for everybody, you're not a voice of the majority, and you resort to stupid strawman arguments every time somebody shares a different opinion to you.
Personally I love Steam because of the way the interface works and how the libary looks(and several other things such as having guides and a nice overlay). And on Regional pricing, I think it is alright as long it is fair. I mean with this that the currency changes are correct(so 1 dollar IS NOT EQUAL to 1 euro) but that you can have lower prices for example Russia or lower income nations so they can afford the games. That is just my opinion though but it makes sense to charge lower for areas that aren't as high income as the US/EU. But the 1 euro = 1 dollar is still bullshit.
Well, it's good for Australians and Europeans, I guess, but in some countries like Russia, Ukraine, India, Brazil, typical price of $60 is way too much. Salaries are not the same all over the world. In my country, for example, we get a much lower salary than in US, but at the same time I can get a nice meal in a restaurant for $2, I pay $13 a month for 10 megabit internet + TV, and a couple of cents for a bus ride. Same with games. In retail, a typical AAA title costs about $20 when it's just released. So the 'same price all over the world' is not exactly fair. I'm glad that Steam has regional pricing. Though again, I completely understand the pain of 1$ = 1€, I'm not ignorant. Just saying that regional prices are not always a bad thing if done right.
$1 = 1€ affects countries in the EU which haven't adopted the Euro. That means prices in: Sweden The Czech Republic Bulgaria Romania Lithuania Latvia Hungary Poland Denmark Croatia are completely skewed and in result, people like me have to pay exuberant prices. A full priced game on Steam costs 60 euro, when the average salary here is 300 euro. So while Ukraine, Russia, India and Brazil get normal prices, half of Europe gets shafted.
I dunno man I love Steam for its great customer support, consumer protection, fair prices, and stable and reliable client. Oh wait it has none of those things.
This is the main reason I don't like Steam, the lack of consumer protection. Even fucking Origin lets you refund a goddam game without going through a hundred hoops.

I don't see how downloading and installing a game from Steam is more convenient than doing so from GOG or Humble or any other service. As for the icons, just type the game's name in the start menu or put the shortcuts in a folder instead of directly on your desktop?
