Fool and stupid are synonymous. DO you have a different meaning of the word stupid you want to give us?
Well there's an old story my mom used to tell me about this stuff. There were 3 men. All three of them were very educated. They were capable of many scientific possibilities. The first two said to the third one let's build a tiger. The third one said no. The other two said why not? The third one while not as clever as his other two brothers beside it say I'm just going to go over here. He went far away and then decide to climb a tree. The other two created the Tiger and it ate the other two brothers. You see the two brothers were clever smart capable but lack wisdom. The third one well wasn't as clever or as educated as the other two brothers. But he knew better not to do anything that would backfire on him
Anyone that thinks that the (for the time being) most powerful man in the world, who also has billions upon billions of dollars, is stupid... well, I don't really have any insult big enough to highlight how ridiculous that idea is.
Intelligence isn't universal. Being an adept businessman with a keen understanding of manipulation or negotiation is certainly an impressive skillet in its own right, sure. There's definitely an argument to be made that Trump is intelligent in that field. However, that doesn't carry over into everything he does. Adept businessman, fool politician. [editline]26th December 2016[/editline]
hes surrounded by people who have enabled him for decades. the banks, the investors, the lawyers, the TV producers the campaign managers, theyve all dressed, doctored, legitimized, and enabled him to succeed where hes made some increadibly moronic decisions. if he wasnt born with a silver spoon up his ass he'd be no better off than a poor ass highschool dropout
This is also a very legitimate point. Powerful people, even stupid ones, can still receive expert advice from those more qualified and informed than themselves. Trump has been surrounded by such people for his entire life. I wouldn't be nearly so worried about a Trump presidency if he had chosen a cabinet of qualified and ethical people to serve as his new advisory board, and if he had not decided that he doesn't need regular intelligence briefings. Trump is a fool, and his head has gotten so big that he's now actively refusing the kind of counsel he so desperately needs to succeed in this.
don't applaud trump for doing the bare minimum required by law
SO what you're saying is that he's smart but lacks wisdom? I would suspect he lacks both. Completely.
I doubt anyone capable of winning POTUS is a complete dumbass. Politics is all about manipulation of other people. That is a specific form of intelligence. That takes cunning. I can tell you what is stupid and unwise. Is when you go into a competition I think it's one even before the results are in. Democrats and their supporters have this odd mindsets anyone who isn't like them doesn't agree with their viewpoints who doesn't behave like them must be stupid and are losers and are idiots. They thought that Trump due to his behavior that he won't win. The thing is if you study how Trump uses language you would realize he really knows how to manipulate people in his own special way. The only reason you think he's dumb because you don't understand why the Democrats lost why they would vote for Trump. You're assuming once again just like all other Democratic supporters only reason people don't support you is because they must be dumb stupid and idiotic. Now you just writing them off and set yourself up for another failure. Instead of actually asking what happened and how to fix it. Other reason you're upset and think he's dumb is he has a tendency to say things that really offend people and offended you. You have this assumption to anyone who says something offensive must be stupid. This is not true. There are some people are truly truly intelligent people who often uses outrage as a tactic to manipulate and persuade people into doing what they want these people to do for them. Another example would be Ben Carson. The guy is a genius in the medical field but during the GOP Primary we realized he wasn't just saying things to Pander to his base. He was saying s*** like the pyramids were used to store grain and other wacky crap. Make no mistake he is an intelligent man but judge by his actions and works during this election cycle so that he doesn't have a lot of wisdom and is not all there.
Trump isn't stupid. I actually thought, at the time of his campaign, he was saying all of these things to guarantee victory, and when he actually won, he would change his mind about everything or prove a point about the American people being complete idiots to vote for a man like him (not that we had much say in it anyway). Not really sure if my prediction has come true or not, but people are dying in the world and in the meantime he's having meetings with Kanye West. He's useless.
I'll believe it when I see it
Unless he says something outrageous and discriminatory, then I'll believe it without any thought put into it or patience.
I think the word we're looking for isn't smart, but cunning. Trump fully understands how to manipulate people, and is perfectly willing to do it to suit his own needs. He's not particularly smart (otherwise he'd be more well-informed on the issues we've all been talking about) and he's obviously not wise, but he's got a good sense for wriggling out of trouble and convincing people he was never in trouble in the first place.
Anyone that thinks that the (for the time being) most powerful man in the world, who also has billions upon billions of dollars, is stupid... well, I don't really have any insult big enough to highlight how ridiculous that idea is.
He is stupid, but stupidity is subjective. Ben Carson is my favorite example. He's a brain surgeon, he was smart enough to become a master of one of the hardest medical professions in the world. It takes a ton of ambition, intelligence, and competence to even enter that field. And he believes the Pyramids were grain warehouses.
Whenever people start talking about how successful Trump is in business I can't help but remember that he couldn't even make casinos, the business where people almost literally just walk in the door and hand you their money, profitable

The type of people who defend Trump seem to be caught in a bizarre cognitive dissonance where rich people like Trump are smart because if they weren't there's no way they could have earned a lot of money, and yet at the same time the 'elites' they wanted to kick out of the government were stupid and selfish and didn't earn any of their wealth because they took it all from taxes. Like it's pretty obvious that they could reach the conclusion on their own that being wealthy does not necessarily mean you are intelligent at all but they keep passing over it. There's tonnes of even obvious examples where rich = smart is not true, yet they're ignored.
Anyone that thinks that the (for the time being) most powerful man in the world, who also has billions upon billions of dollars, is stupid... well, I don't really have any insult big enough to highlight how ridiculous that idea is.
As other posters have pointed out: The dude has had every advantage, every head start. From the very beginning he has been carried to success on the backs of the best Advice, The best Legal help, etc that his inherited wealth could buy. Perhaps he has picked up a formidable degree of business acumen from an entire life working surrounded by these advantages, perhaps not. (tbh presenting a radical face and then dialling it down to convince people you have met them half way isn't exactly the epitome of cunning, It doesn't make him a master of manipulation.) But would that even make him smart?. No. Fuck it man, I'm willing to say I could become prime-minister of England had I started out with that kind of money.
Anyone that thinks that the (for the time being) most powerful man in the world, who also has billions upon billions of dollars, is stupid...
He didn't get either of those through his smarts. One was handed to him by the worst-run campaign in American history alongside a surge in nationalist populism, and the other he inherited from his father.
Trump's clever but not stupid. Unwise and a fool but not stupid
he believes vaccines cause autism, china invented global warming, and he stays up at 3am openly shitposting on twitter where he reveals nuclear weapons policy and insults heads of state stupidity covers that
he believes vaccines cause autism, china invented global warming, and he stays up at 3am openly shitposting on twitter where he reveals nuclear weapons policy and insults heads of state stupidity covers that
This is known as pandering. He said that shit to appeal to the GOP base and some of general population. I don't think this proves trump is stupid. It proves he is good at conning stupid people. It takes cunning to con people.
is he really a genius, or just a blundering oaf who managed to shitpost his way into power?
My money is on the latter, given that he's won the election and if this was a facade, he would have given it up by now - but has only gone deeper.

What a genius. I actually agree with you entirely that he's incredibly good with language and his way of using it was entirely deliberate. But I don't agree that that makes it unreasonable to call him stupid. He's a good snake oil salesman but he is also a giant moron. Also keep in mind that winning the election wasn't all on him, he couldn't have done it with a less terrible opponent.
