the second film was actually quite strong
it was a cool action movie but added nothing to the first alien thematically or conceptually beyond some more monster variation.

I've always felt that Aliens itself was a very strong well put together movie but a 'weak sequel'. It had its own great things to offer but yeah, it didn't build upon the first alien film. They're both very different films. Props to Cameron for not simply copying off the first movie though.

It did expand the background + nature of the humans and the Weyland-Yutani company though.
How do you live up to the "tears in rain" monologue?
How do you live up to the "tears in rain" monologue?
You don't. It's part of what makes the film so incredible
Here you've got a superstrong killer android on a desperate quest for revenge for what he sees as enslavement of his people and the death of his girlfriend
Imagine that in a movie today and try not to laugh
and yet Rutger Hauer manages to make the character believable enough to deliver a monologue about space wars and tears in rain, with huge emotional and philosophical depth
It's not going to happen again.
On the one hand... awesome. On the other... shit.
Will this be a Godfather part 2, or part 3? Because Blade Runner is one of the greatest movies ever. Probably in the top ten of all time.
Am I the only person that didn't enjoy blade runner one bit.
I found it to be very boring. But the visuals and atmosphere were incredible.

Yeah, I'm a huge huge blade runner fan, and the reason why was because they absolutely nailed the tone and the visuals of the movie. Nothing felt even slightly off. It's pitch perfect cyberpunk. Even the CRT tv's work in that movie. In fact, it wouldn't work as well with flatscreen LCD stuff.
Also if it was quick paced, it would ruin that tone.

For me it wasn't about the pace. I watched it a long time ago but I remember it starting off really promising with the interrogation scenes and then it turning into a lame action movie when deckard was chasing after those 3 replicants.
For the fuck's sake, it wasn't Ridley's fault. In terms of actual, honest to God directing, the film was drop dead gorgeous.
Sorry I didn't realise somthing had to be a fucking rainbow to look good.
I remember when the first time information about Scott being involved in Blade Runner sequel was confirmed, there was a slight mention about it being set in the same universe as original film, and nothing more.
Sadly, I also remember that exact same thing was said about Prometheus and look how it turned out.
sorry i didn't realize the director isn't at fault when their movies are bad
It's not always the director's fault. Take the original Blade Runner cut. No matter how good the story at hand was, the film was ruined by the Harrison Ford voice over, which Ridley was against from the start. It was the producers who wanted it in. Hell, Ridley even did some recording sessions with Harrison (none were used, but for the most part, they sounded pretty good. They both shared a laugh on one occasion). The reason it was shit was they recorded everything (and wrote everything) without Ridley signing off on it.
Sure, Prometheus has its faults, but let's not forget that David Giler and Walter Hill both haven't produced a good film between them since Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, where they intentionally fucked with David Fincher and came up with the idea of cloning to ruin the franchise.
He was your uncle? That's really cool! Did he ever talk much about his work in BR?
Yeah he used to apparently. I never got to personally meet him, since he died in 1999, i was like six, but my aunt is married to his brother, and i remember this guy being like 6'6 or so. he was a giant compared to me, and his brother chet is as well. one year for my birthday his brother bought me a guitar that was like 600-800$ just cause, like literally right in the store, since he receives royalties. i didn't know much of brion, but he was a great family man and left his entire fortune, including the rights to the films to his brother, and his nephew.
do a sequel in other parts of the blade runner universe completely unrelated to to the original plot. only way i can see it working.

Shame my uncle (Brion James) won't get to be in this, since he died a while about.
He played Parasite in the (hilarious) Superman 64 game and the original Superman The Animated Series. That's awesome
I dunno, i really am kinda skeptical to making a sequel to Blade Runner.
There are a few reasons but i have a few of my own personal peeves.
Blade Runner was pitch perfect, it was almost Shakespearian.
Particularly at the end, i just don't know how you can conclude from that because it leaves you on a hanging as if to if Deckard is actually a Android or not. I really really hope they don't spoil the magic of the Original.
