The planet's climate is destabilizing beyond all hope of saving because we as a species did fuck all when we had a chance to take action, the most powerful scientific, economic and military superpower on earth just elected a compulsive liar, an empty-headed narcissist and a populist demagogue (Who is probably a Russian puppet anyway) as president, people are losing respect for science and value feeling over facts (See: Brexit, US Elections), the economy is complete garbage with a shrinking middle class and a growing working class while the richest people in the world continue to dodge taxes and hoard wealth, and both Russia and the US are either looking at or have already started rebuilding their nuclear stockpiles. Things are shit, will continue to be shit, and our species is probably going to send itself back to the stone age in a few generations' time. The entire human species is shit. Fuck bringing kids into such a world. Perhaps China and India, which are both developing at a great rate and implementing positive reforms, can carry the torch forward as the West continues its decline towards its ultimate fall. If the West and Russia don't start a global nuclear war in this century. Time will tell.
And yet life goes on, people smile and laugh, children are born, raised and die, the cycle repeats. Bad things have happened throughout all of human history, it's no reason to get all indignant and start rambling about how you can't bring a child into the abject horror that is slightly warmer summers and ice caps melting in a part of the world you'll never visit. (To be clear, I'm not saying the status of the climate isn't an urgent issue for all of humanity, just that.. Realistically, Earth is still very livable for now.) [editline]18th January 2017[/editline]
But nothing bad ever actually happens right?
My God could you be any more self-righteous and snarky dude.. Take a nap or something, relax. I guess I just don't see the next 80~ years as being the barren Mars-like hellscape you do, so sue me.

Our generation already got fucked by Baby Boomers who lived it up without a thought for the future, and our generation is similarly fucking future generations through our poor decisions, like Brexit and the US election. The world isn't going to be a very nice place to live moving forward, and while I'm sure that people having kids will still be able to give them a decent childhood, it'll be another generation without a real future, struggling to make ends meet in a shit economy. What's the point? The reason smart people aren't having kids is because they know things are going to hell. They pay attention.

Maybe you should take a nap when you read my posts in order to understand someone can fully feel something different to what you do and isn't invalidated by that feeling you have? Is global warming a concern in any sense for you, or no?

There are a lot of other influences so obvious I'm guessing I don't even have to list them that correlate with higher intelligence that don't involve wallowing in nihilism. You can recognize that there are political/environmental/economic depressions in the world while still recognizing that day to day life in the Western world is still the highest standard of living in human history. Humans used to hunt and forage and die when they were 30 from painful preventable diseases, I think we can handle a shitty president and expensive gasoline.
think we can handle a shitty president and expensive gasoline.
Yeah that's all we're talking about and I'm melodramatic lol you have over simplified it to "melodramatic" levels.
