• Half-Life Needs to go back to "Scaring Players" Claims Newell

I just hope they somewhat stay in the field of how they've been scaring the player they are in now. A little bit atmospheric, and one occasional HRUR SCREAMER. If it goes psychological AND THE WALLS ARE FALLING ON ME OH GOD, then I'd be dissapointed.
As scary as Ravenholm and Episode 1 were, no Half-life moment will be scarier for me than being chased by that god damn gargantua in Power Up. You thought you had outrun him, but then you turn around and he's melting your face off.
It's funny because he's fat.
Fat with awesome.
That fucking vortigaunt at the top of the Ladder in Episode 2.
Probably the most frightful part of Episode 2. Not the most memorable either, as I have forgotten about it in two subsequent playthroughs.
I think Half Life is scary enough...I don't want this to turn our like Doom 3...
Suddenly... New Ravenholm
the only thing i care about is as long as they dont go back to past areas im good unless the story they have planned suddenly needs you to get back to the coast idc
I dont like when the headcrabs are behind boxes and you dont notice.
If they're gonna do scares, they should vary the scares. Not all cheap scares like Snowcrabs jumping out of snowdrifts, but not all long drawn-out suspensive scary moments. There should be things that jump on to Gordon and he has to throw them off, a bit like the whole Dead Space/RE4/whatever thing. That'd be pretty scary in first-person. And it makes me wonder: why didn't they give you a first-person view when you were pounced by a Hunter or grabbed by a Charger in L4D? That would've given me a terrible fright, and probably make me want to play it more...
I have full confidence that whatever direction they take will be for the best. Besides I can't wait what they pull for the "finale" of the Gordon arc of the Half-Life series.
Grodon arc? No it's the comine story arc, half-life will still be about gordon. I mean it better be.
He feels as though the series has recently gotten a bit off track
Well, they DID crash the train at the beginning of EP2.
This is why I loved Half-Life 1. It wasn't extremely scary, but it had a very eerie atmosphere through the whole game.
I indirectly blame Gmod. It's made a mockery of the characters and enemies so much so they aren't at all impressive anymore.
.
I didn't really like how Episode Two was almost always in broad daylight; even the soundtrack, I mean, it's god damn rock, where the hell is the dark ambient from HL1 and HL2
I wish they brought back the old Bullsquids and the Houndeyes. Let's not forget the giant green tentacle [editline]06:55PM[/editline] That have left me traumatized after going through the blast pit
Even when I was a kid hl1 wasn't scary, it has moments where you go 'Oh shit NO ...NO! I NEED THAT! FUCK!' but not frightening. Same for hl2. Although really this is just fine.
I remember how HL1 scared the shit out of me, same think with Ravenholm. It was awesome. I guess Gmod ruined the hl scares, after hundreds of poses where zombies were playing with melons, they kinda lost the scare factor. I never got scared in ep1 or ep2. :(
Hopefully, not as scary as HL1; I never got around to finishing it because of the weird sounds I was hearing all the time :v:
Really? I want it to be scary as original Half-Life.
I didn't really like how Episode Two was almost always in broad daylight; even the soundtrack, I mean, it's god damn rock, where the hell is the dark ambient from HL1 and HL2
I liked because it was something different. I mean it would get boring to experience the same feeling over 4 games. Half-Life 1 was like "Oh God.. We're all gonna die" Half-Life 2 was like "They are destroying humanity :'(" Episode One was like Half Life 1 Episode Two was like "Rock 'N' Roll baby! We are taking the Earth back!"
Hopefully, not as scary as HL1; I never got around to finishing it because of the weird sounds I was hearing all the time :v:
Same, HL1 scared the crap out of me as a kid. I should really go back and actually finish it one of these days...
Headcrab in the vent in Half Life. Players know what I'm talking about
I shat many a brick that day.
I never got to zen Fucking Itchyosaurs
I agree. Half life turned into a bland "do this puzzle, shoot these boring monsters that you've been shooting for years now" snore.
I agree with this, after all, HL convinced me to play the whole the game with that feeling.
He would be a terrible godfather. Gordon's children would wake up and Gman would be looming over their bed, saying: "Rise and shine Gordon Jr.. Wake up and smell the pancakes..."
that was the funniest thing that i read in a real long time :D
half-life had a pretty scary atmosphere in many of the levels, I hope that's what he means, because i'd love to see that back
The death of their children scares me more. What if Alyx + Gordon actually have children and are killed? I'd like to point out that if loosing Eli was gruesome, then imagine a helpless kid dieing.
It was a metaphor, bro.
Here is one way to make HL scary........Make alyx fuck ugly
I would suggest a new combine troop, sometime of near-juggernaut that just looks like it'll tear your shit up, like a tank form L4D but armored and called either a "Berserker" or "Juggernaut", and only have on. Maybe some type of suit for an advisor, and have alyx be trapped or something so Gordon has to fight it alone. So basically "Oh shit, every single friend I've made since every single person I've known died is going to die.", maybe tear the shit out of the HEV suit and make it look battle worn and gray.
