Half-Life Needs to go back to "Scaring Players" Claims Newell
I would suggest a new combine troop, sometime of near-juggernaut that just looks like it'll tear your shit up, like a tank form L4D but armored and called either a "Berserker" or "Juggernaut", and only have on. Maybe some type of suit for an advisor, and have alyx be trapped or something so Gordon has to fight it alone.
So basically "Oh shit, every single friend I've made since every single person I've known died is going to die.", maybe tear the shit out of the HEV suit and make it look battle worn and gray.
It would be nice if they introduced many new units within the combine alone. Maybe add in some kind of two man MG team that actually walk around with a collapsed machine gun and dynamically search for a place to set it up when they see gordon. Perhaps make an actual mobile sniper unit with lighter armour and all badass looking that deliberately tries to hide from the player, that would be both interesting and challenging. Ultimately I just want to see the combine get some more variation.

Oh yea, and uhh.. make it scary too.
Here is one way to make HL scary........Make alyx fuck ugly
I never really found her attractive anyways :\
I can hardly say Valve have much experience with horror. I mean sure Ravenholme and the Ep1 underground areas were scary the first time, but never again...
games can't be scary on the source engine

Yes, they can.
I've only played through the ravenholm chapter once, whenever i replay HL2 I always skip that chapter.
There were some pretty hairy parts in Half Life as well, one being Blast Pit. I think what made me feel uneasy in the first game is when you'd go hours without seeing another human alive
It wasn't scary but the fucking ant lion queen chasing you in Episode 2 through the tunnels was fucking epic, I was literally like half sitting / standing. Great scene.
I thought the part in Half-Life 1 where the Gigantowhatever blew up the bridge and you had to first swim to the control tower, open the pipes, then swim through those was fucking terrifying. Two or three icthyos in that part alone.
There's also the first poison headcrab zombie you find in Episode 2, the one in the closet. Scared me the first time I played it with its creepy breathing. It almost sounded like it was singing. :tinfoil:

It has plenty of capabilites for horror, just no one has seen them in use yet.
remember those manhacks that came out of a crate in the beginning of hl2?
scared the fuck out of me
If Valve started releasing stuff on time and in due course that'd scare me.
Remember Blue Shift? Well if i remember correctly the First zombie in that game just comes from the fucking shadows so suddenly it makes you piss yourself.
I liked because it was something different. I mean it would get boring to experience the same feeling over 4 games.
Half-Life 1 was like "Oh God.. We're all gonna die"

Half-Life 2 was like "They are destroying humanity :'("

Episode One was like Half Life 1
Episode Two was like "Rock 'N' Roll baby! We are taking the Earth back!"

Cool buggy.
But I really think they should have kept the final level as a sort-of misty/hazy look, It felt a lot more gripping from that trailer.
Also Zombines can scare me a little.
Collapsing vent shaft with tripminds everywhere.

Although that was more frustrating than scary.
