North Carolina voting on constitutional gay union ban - polls indicate it will pass

I wish we could do away with marriage, why have it if you can not marry who you want to marry?
Fuck my state.
I apologize for the retarded people that run my state. All we got here is people who think they're 'Gangsta' and racist hicks.
Glorious peoples democracy of North America.
A lot of states are legalizing it, a few will most definitely hold out, especially the south, but people will learn.
Don't worry, guys. The Supreme Court will be seeing the issue of gay union sooner than you all think- within two years at the most. And trust me when I say that, as long as the composition remains the same as now, it will likely rule against the allowance of laws that prohibit same-sex union.
The more shit like this pops up, the more likely and faster it will reach SCOTUS.

Exactly what I'm hoping, of course right now we have public opinion in many states on the brink being able to pass same-sex marriage laws
My family goes to the Outer Banks every other summer for vacation.
Knowing that the state they're in does this sort of thing is quite saddening. I don't think I should mention this to them.
People cling to stuff like this becuase it helps them ignore the real problems in their country.

It's passed, essentially. I'm just so pissed, it's not even funny.
I fucking hate my state so much right now.

so does everyone else.
so does everyone else.
It's embarrassing to be associated with the state, honestly.
It's funny when you consider that more than likely the folk who supported this always rail on about the "(big) government" dictating their choices, and here we got the perfect example of them endorsing such a proposal. The hypocrisy here is stunning really, more so when you see that the backers of this bill complain about "activist judges" and legislatures recognizing same-sex marriages or unions and complaining that they are imposing their views on them... yet they impose their views on others.
Neil Degrasse Tyson (scientist responsible for this meme) posted a link on his twitter of a Reverend from a meeting of clergy opposed to this amendment (ie they don't support the ban on gay marriage and unions to be enshrined in the constitution) who made really some good points. I wish more clergy in this country thought like he did.

fuck my state, i'm pissed
i wish i could personally tell off each person who voted for this
I hate the fact that I live in this state, and I hate the fact that I live in this country. So many things are done correctly in this country, but way more is done terribly terribly wrongly.
I really didn't think so many would vote FOR this stupid thing.
Also, anyone else in North Carolina? Where around. Going to UNC Charlotte currently. Moving back home Thursday.
The problem is that the majority actually believe gay people should be allowed to form civil unions or domestic partnerships.

But most people didn't know what the fuck the amendment even did.
Q4 Do you think that a 'yes' vote on Amendment

[editline]9th May 2012[/editline]
Another thing is this was held on the same day as the Republican primary when the old people would be out in force. Saw so many people on fucking ventilators at the voting office and only one person that looked even close to under 40.
[editline]9th May 2012[/editline]
I mean look at these numbers, it passed due to ignorance.
Q5 If you knew that Amendment One banned both
There's no such thing as a perfect safeguard from tyranny of the majority. You can make it harder for it as best you can, but you can't always stop it 100% of the time.
The only sure way to stop it is to not allow public voting in the first place, but at this point you're just replacing tyranny with tyranny.
Well, it was passed due to a whole generation of people who grew up in a environment where homosexuals seemed to be non existent. In all reality they were always there. Due to the invention of the internet and modern media, gays have now become more known to this generation of people. And it is because of this, these people think they suddenly started becoming gay in the last few decades. Thus giving them the idea. it was choice rather than be born that way. It is wrong that these people act like bigots, but its there ignorance that explains the way they act.
I'm not that surprised, it's North Carolina. They never were much of a progressive state.
fuck my state, i'm pissed

I'm going wild on Facebook.
This'll never make it past the Supreme Court.
This'll never make it past the Supreme Court.
After Bush vs. Gore, Citizen United, and the more recent strip search verdict I have a bad feeling it would be a 5/4 party line "states rights" vote.
However, this is entirely dependent on when and if it reaches the Supreme Court so who knows what the outcome could be.
This'll never make it past the Supreme Court.
you mean like all the other 20 or 30 states that have done the same thing haven't made it past the supreme court?
I love my home state of NC, warm weather, home to some of the most beautiful lakes you will ever see and home to some of the best universities in the world. However, I sometimes wish I could walk on down to the state house and start cracking skulls because this is just absolutely ridiculous.
Hey these people are different to us but don't actually affect us in any way let's do our best to ruin their future happiness
Seriously, grow up.
Wait, California has a constitutional ban on gay marriage, but we don't (didn't?), the fuck?
Thank proposition 8 and the mormons who jammed it through
I live in North Carolina and i'm so sorry D:
I went and voted against it, but I knew it was going to pass. Our state is infested with backwards ass country fucks.
This is just sickening but not surprising considering which state this is... Some of the comments on CNN about this are just sickening like this one: "All gays carry STD's and are sexual predators."
Seriously???
Hopefully Obama can get the DOJ to fight this if it goes to court.
