Hm, Nokia was thinking of buying Skype as well.
I guess they were too late then.
windows live messenger is absolutely horrid
if they buy skype I hope they don't go about aiming to fix what isn't broken

Nokia doesn't stand a bloody chance considering how much stocks Microsoft has.
For gods sake do this, Microsoft. Buy Skype and combine it with Windows Live. Stop spending money at creating Bing, the Kin or Windows Phone 7. Just do this, you'll fix your business.
Seriously, you dominate the IM market and buying Skype would mean you'd dominate the VoIP market. NOTHING COULD GO WRONG. JUST DO IT.
This is great news, I can't see why anyone would be complaining.
Where the hell did all the hate come from? Why would they make users subscribe for skype-to-skype calls?
Better buy it before Google does, M$.

$$$
Hoping for metro UI on skype.
I never used skype anyways
I think skype is a pile of horseshit anyway, so this doesn't bother me.
Google will destroy them anyway with google talk
and an interesting article from wired
http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2011/05/microsoft-buys-skype-2/
Skype is worthless anyway.
- The Linux client is garbage
- The Windows client forces itself to the foreground to show you ads
- I can't even get in a call half the time
- The UI makes me puke
- Slows down my computer by about 20%
I only used skype for free video chats with my girlfriend over my iPhone to her iPod. Hopes it stays free or that is out the window.
Maybe they'll finally bring back skypecasts :neckbeard:
CBC News is confirming the deal is being done as we speak.
Microsoft states they will integrate Skype's features into their Smartphone OS and email services.
I still think they should of stuck to NetMeeting.
Bright side guys.
Microsofts servers might be faster than Skypes.
But on the other.. Not so bright side.
We'll most likely have higher payrates. More commercials inside. And a rename from Skype to Microsoft Live Skyprosoft.
interesting link you posted. not to mention this

:raise: Congratulations, that's the whole point. People's opinions are being entirely influenced by advertising, all the people who thought it was bad were basing it on advertising, not actually using it. If anything that just proves it even more, it could still be shit but now they like it because of more advertising.
Also, MSN and Hotmail are by no means amazing but they're certainly decent services. I always found it handy to A) be able to send voice clips rather than going through the shit to start up a voice call
B) be able to start up a random game of chess or whatever with a friend who also plays
I haven't used hotmail for a long time but it's mostly because everyone spams to hotmail addresses to try and send junkmail, wasn't really anything wrong with it
I really don't like the sound of this. It isn't because "MICROSOFT ARE BASTARDS", it's because I quite like having different accounts for different services. I hate how everything has to be integrated with everything else now.
I hope Microsoft continue to support Linux. Otherwise, I'm out. I do have Windows 7, but it's nice to be able to use Skype on Ubuntu.
Skype already has a pay service to call landlines so why are you worried about microsoft doing the exact same thing?
:bandwagon: if you ask me.
Skype doesn't have the change at all. All they did is buy the thing. They could leave it as is, and still profit from it from positive stocks and skype itself.
here comes the OMG MICRO$OFT SUX EVIL CORPORATIONS RUINING OUR STUFF FITE DA MAN
need i remind you that like 80% of you are running your computer on an operating system MADE by this company?
That just goes to show how evil it is, really.
Incoming skype dlc
five months later "Microsoft has bought amazon.com for 5 million dollars"

Xbox 360 type Avatar feature with clothing you have to pay for!
Already buggy software, being bought up by an even buggier software creating company. Oh snap.
For some strange reason, now I have a lot of fear...
I can see potential for it, especially paired with Kinect.

Can you even run Vista if that's true?
If you've looked at Windows 8, you'll see that the Live services are more integrated into the operating system itself. With Skype becoming part of Live, this can only be a good thing.
I'm not sure where this "MICROSOFT ARE MONEY HUNGRY BASTARDS" thing came from, because the majority of their services are free, and really good (Hotmail, Skydrive, MSN etc.)
