Roger rated movies out of 4.
Man, what a bummer. Roger Ebert is like a household name, and whenever I wanted to see what critics were saying about the latest release, I always looked up Ebert's reviews first.
RIP Mr. Ebert
He was actually a very good writer as far as movie criticism goes. It's probably going to be a long time, if ever, that we see another of that kind of writer dedicate his talent to reviewing movies.
Holy Christ!
I read his blog post this morning about how he was taking a minor leave of absence. Fuck, that is sad.
I'd like to think he and Gene Siskel are up in heaven right now:
God- "Movies are free."
Them- "Yay!"
God- "Popcorn is free, all you can eat."
Them- "Yay!"
God- "All the movies are G rated."
Them- "Awww!"
As much as I love Roger, this made me lol

i didn't always agree with him but it's weird to know he's gone

it's kind of like losing a dog who acted like an asshole sometimes but you've had for years

Nooooooo :(
There goes a legend.
Now he and Gene can review films together once again
Right on.
This is so sad. He was my favorite film critic and an outstanding writer. Even when I disagreed with him on a review or blog post, I still respected his perspective and his ability to articulate it so well.
Four stars/two thumbs up, man. :(
Two thumbs up, for a pretty awesome guy.

Just so weird, the way life works.
It's part of the plan. He will either reincarnate or just criticize from the afterlife.
One day, you will be watching a movie, and suddenly realize it's pretty awful, even tho you won't know why.
That will be his watchful spirit, guiding your gormless opinion the right way.
Very sad. The Onion posted a surprisingly touching article about him http://www.theonion.com/articles/roger-ebert-hails-human-existence-as-a-triumph,31945/.
Calling the overall human experience “poignant,” “thought-provoking,” and a “complete tour de force,” film critic Roger Ebert praised existence Thursday as “an audacious and thrilling triumph.” “While not without its flaws, life, from birth to death, is a masterwork, and an uplifting journey that both touches the heart and challenges the mind,” said Ebert, adding that while the totality of all humankind is sometimes “a mess in places,” it strives to be a magnum opus and, according to Ebert, largely succeeds at this goal.

The fact that we're re-launching the site now, in the midst of other challenges, should give you an idea how important Rogerebert.com and Ebert Digital are to Chaz and me. I hope you'll stop by, and look for me. I'll be there.
So on this day of reflection I say again, thank you for going on this journey with me. I'll see you at the movies.
He posted this two days ago. I wonder if he knew.
RIP

Written almost two years ago as he battled cancer and reflected on some inspiring words of life and joy.
Goddamnit, now I think I'm crying.
Good riddance Roger Ebert, you fat miserable cunt.
You criticized movies mercilessly when you couldn't even make a good film yourself.

congratulations! you're an asshole!
congratulations! you're an asshole!
Yeah I'm an asshole for speaking out against the king of assholes in the film industry.
Look at how many careers he's destroyed. Look at how many movies he's torn apart. Yet, ironically, he had to resort to criticizing other people's works of art because he couldn't do it himself.
Actually he could
[sp]he was just terrible at it[/sp]
thats right daniel m take down those 9 year olds and dead film critics yr doing gods work m8

What about critics in the video game industry?

I could go on about how you don't need to be good at something to critique it but I'm gonna save the effort.

From now on you have to be the absolute best at something to criticize it.
thats right daniel m take down those 9 year olds and dead film critics yr doing gods work m8
He tore apart movies that didn't even deserve it. Think about how shitty the actors felt, the hundreds or even thousands of people that worked on it felt after reading one of his reviews where he trashes a project that was worked on for two or three or maybe even four years. Think of the directors he's discouraged, there's more than a handful out there.

Ok, name one person whose career was ruined because of Roger Ebert.

I'm sure those actors are crying themselves to sleep knowing that he didn't like their movie.
roger ebert was relentless in his patronage for good movies far more than prob any other film critic
the nature of criticism is to be objective, if the actors or production crew cant reciprocate that objectivity thats not his fault
