I've got two, one from each of the Big Two.

I can bet there's only two or three people that are watching this thread besides me that can even name the left one, and the right actually has struggles and goals beyond just being a gender bent homosexual Bruce Wayne. As of right now Riri is busy in her dorm room building a War Machine knock off and has no struggle at all pulling it off. I could give a damn if they want to hand mantles off to other characters, just do it well with characters that actually feel human and don't put your political agenda as the only character trait.
But the article does imply that she will have struggles and her own problems
Bendis: One of the things that stuck with me when I was working in Chicago a couple of years ago on a TV show that didn’t end up airing was the amount of chaos and violence. And this story of this brilliant, young woman whose life was marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life—just random street violence—and went off to college was very inspiring to me.
And you cant really fault her for being smart as its some sort of discredit to her character, like you may have a point with this OP OC stuff if she was omnipotent and had rainbow angel wings or something but so far all that you're going off of with those claims is that shes really smart and that isnt that unrealistic, people have enrolled at MIT at that age before
Again your argument is based on an assumption of the execution being poor but you have absolutely no idea how it will actually be
Remember 90's with Death of Superman and Knightfall? When DC tried to do the same, just for the sake of new edgy characters, not new "sjw-approved" ones? Now barely anyone remembers Steel, and Azriel got demoted to background character of Batman comics, because people didn't like their heroes being replaced just like that.
Hey what the fuck dude, Steel is cool.
He was like the only good thing to come out of The Death of Superman.

Undertale
Lots of White Wolf (RPG publisher) materials
DnD materials if they include a note about trans/gender issues

Pretty much any kind of vaguely progressive media where the MC(s) are non-straight or anything other than white
If we're being 100% fair on Undertale, it's more about the fact hotland has 2 gay couples in it then the Fallen Child's anything.
I haven't really seen anyone complain about the MC outside his (or her) wonky leg :v:
Hey what the fuck dude, Steel is cool.

And then got slammed hard with that awful film adaptation.
I am talking about how they didn't became new household names, which every kid knows.
Undertale
Eh? I thought people loved Undertale, just hated the communinty around it because its cancer?

Brian Michael Bendis.
Has their been a Hispanic or Asian superhero yet?
Because she's still replacing Tony Stark as Iron Man.
She could've been a whole new character with a new mantle. Titanium Terror or whatever. Thats the problem.
I still dont see whats wrong with her taking up the mantle of an old hero. Why is that such a bad thing? I feel like it shakes things up and makes for interesting storylines of succession, living up to legacies, inheritance, etc. There's lots of merit to this concept if its done well.
He's pretty despised by a lot of people and his writing is the most attrocious fucking thing.
Ill admit this is fucking incoherent lol
They have every right to when Marvel shit the bed so hard these past few years, and the giant egg who created this new character has become known for shitting the bed .
Well I'll take your word for it then, but at the same time, a lot of this thread doesnt have as deeply rooted and legitimate concerns as you. And also at the same time I'll probably check out the first issue and see if its any good as this has piqued my interest, if it's bad and pandery and shitty then oh well, but at least I'll have given it a chance instead of just denouncing it because it diversified Marvel's roster without a second thought.
Oh, and another example of successful replacement - Nick Fury.
A white man, one of the oldest characters, is now retiring, and then being replaced by his som, who is black. No new super-intelligence, superpowers, being gay helicopter-kin... just a son of original hero, who looks like Samuel Jackson (which probably helped a lot, but still)
Eh? I thought people loved Undertale, just hated the communinty around it because its cancer?
Plenty of people had major issues with the gay couples in the game, like a lot
As someone who was deeply involved in the community at release and at the peak of its popularity I can say this with absolute certainty
Has their been a Hispanic or Asian superhero yet?
Amadeus Cho Hulk.
every single one of u fuckers defending every little thing in this game is just completely and utterly proving my first point. trashbag game with an imbecile, trashbag, furry ass, brony ass homestuck ass five nights at freddy xd so randumb tumblr fanbase frothing at the mouth like theyve been triggered every time someone says that shit is unfunny and obnoxious memeriffic bullshit. lol dogs haha pupper lol skeletons get out my face
:v:
jokes aside though most of the hate for the game itself is usually the tumbler argument but they're usually met with bad response
it's definitely out there
Has their been a Hispanic
White Tiger, Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider, Miles Morales.
Asian superhero yet?
Shang Chi, Amadeus Cho Hulk, Zero Cochrane Ghost Rider.
Just some Marvel ones off the top of my head.
The only real question is: Why couldn't she be her own superhero?

Not my goddamn problem. I already gave you examples of original creative content bashed as sjw bullshit because they dared to do something weird involving sexuality, race, class etc
Has their been a Hispanic or Asian superhero yet?
only listing cause no one else will and yes it 100% counts because he's the best hero tbh

But its already BEEN DONE with Iron Man before.
And then that guy became his own dude at the end of it. Maybe you've heard of him. Little known guy called WAR MACHINE.
And then they went through another kind of version of it, not replacing Tony for a bit but gave another supporting character an armor, and we got Pepper Potts as Rescue.
And dont get me started on Armor Wars. And the "Jealous Boyfriend."
Well I'll take your word for it then, but at the same time, a lot of this thread doesnt have as deeply rooted and legitimate concerns as you. The problem, again, isnt the diversification, its doing it needlessly to replace an existing character.
Not my goddamn problem. I already gave you examples of original creative content bashed as sjw bullshit because they dared to do something weird involving sexuality, race, class etc
Uh. You mentioned creative works but you didnt actually point out the bashing. You dropped names on my lap and expected me to know what you're talking about, so uh... Yeah, your problem?
How insecure do you have to be to feel that your gender and culture is being threatened by a minority superhero? Like, fine if you think the plot events leadin to this are dumb, but all this "quit attacking straight white men!" shit is incredibly tiresome.
I don't read comics, but it seems like just re-purposing old super heroes to appeal/pander/whatever you wanna call it is... cheap? It seems like they're not confident that a new character could establish itself properly, so they're basically letting them ride on the coattails of an already popular one.
And are they gonna go all the way? Is this change going to be reflected in the next avengers movie? Sure they're probably totally different timelines or something, but as long as Marvel is only doing this in their, comparatively small-time comics, it's nothing more than progressive brownie points. I haven't even seen the Avengers movies, but isn't Nick Fury basically the only (major) black guy? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that most of the characters are both white and male, and if you really wanted to make a statement, you should probably, ehh, put your money where your mouth is?
While there are probably people who see this as an attack on white people or whatever, I think it's more the fact that this just seems cheap, and you're removing some people's favourite characters (I'd assume).
Again, I don't read comics, I don't watch super hero movies, this is just my take.
Yeah I agree that it's very short-sighted of them to constantly rely on gimmicks like the one posted in the OP to boost or at least sustain readership. They aren't thinking of the long term effects these gimmicks will have on their overall sales numbers.
"shortsighted" implies that they're ignorant of what will happen to them in the future. This is happening to them right now and it will continue into the future. No, they aren't being shortsighted, they're being irresponsible. And that's something they can afford to be with how much money Marvel's IPs make in just about every medium that isn't comics.
White Tiger, Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider, Miles Morales.
Shang Chi, Amadeus Cho Hulk, Zero Cochrane Ghost Rider.
Just some Marvel ones off the top of my head.
DC ones - Jaime Blue Beetle, Vibe, Bane in most adaptations... Can't remember much about asians, but I think White Canary was one. And of course Katana.
DC never gave a shit about diversity, they just chose whoever they want.

You guys need to stop referencing tumblr nonsense as the ill of everything nowadays. I don't get it, are sjws in control of everything and anything or random people nobody listens too? OR are they those special "flexible threats?" designed to be the optimal boogie man and laughing stocks?
But its already BEEN DONE with Iron Man before.

Im aware, but whats wrong with doing it again? It's been like 30 years since War Machine
The thing that's most frustrating about this whole thing is are the people who don't read comics at all chiming in to go "I don't see what the issue is. I mean I have no idea about anything but you guys aren't even giving it a chance! Why are you so insecure?"
Like I'm fucking basic level comic books, I read what's suggested to me and I try to give everything a chance but people HAVE been giving it a shot. People may not of been happy when they first heard it (We had this song and dance with Girl Thor funny enough) but they still bought the comics to at least see if it was handled well.
Outside one or two cases it just simply hasn't been handled well at all yet and has led to things like the comic I posted last page of Girl Thor or Wonder Woman talking about Mansplaining posted a couple pages back. In a lot of cases these have turned into mouthpieces to show how inclusive they're being and nothing else. People like myself are sick of giving it a chance because it hasn't worked at all in almost every case and any time people show proof or try to explain why it's been bad they're instantly labeled as "Lol so ur terrified of black people/gay people/disabled people then?" It's petty and beyond stupid.
E: That was weird, hit edit and it double posted this. Woops
Im aware, but whats wrong with doing it again? It's been like 30 years since War Machine
Because its lazy, and Rhodes was supporting character at the time if memory serves. He didnt show up out of nowhere to replace Tony Stark, he already existed, already had some impact, It made sense, this doesnt.
I know how Bendis will do this, and i know its going to be shit. This wont be good storytelling, if this was done in a video game, or a movie, or a cartoon, that shit would be hit hard for being dumb, but when its the comics, all of a sudden theres a bunch of excuses.
Theres a reason that guy never made it to TV despite that being his goal.

people just need a scapegoat to blame for problems, the problem in this case being... wait what exactly is the problem?
whats wrong with nick fury being black? is it because he's black?

If sjw manage to change something with their constant whining - it counts as being in control. Because right now "you're racist" and "homophobic much" cards are working, and giving results, which leads to unsettling implications. And, of course, to cituations like in this topic.
people just need a scapegoat to blame for problems, the problem in this case being... wait what exactly is the problem?

Who the hell mentioned Nick Fury?
Also, Nick Fury is black in the movies because Sam Jackson made a deal with Marvel back in the early 00's saying he would be in return for them basing Ultimate Nick Fury off of him.
Nick Fury Jr. being introduced to synergize with the movies with this whole fucking dumb convoluted backstory to explain why he's named Nick Fury and also black, thats stupid.
And no, its not unfair to blame the Tumblr crowd, thats exactly who Marvels pandering to with this nonsense.
And to quote that one Loki comic, "Its actually about ethics in Hammer wielding."
The only part of this that rubbed me the wrong way was that apparently this girl could make Iron Man suits when she was studying at MIT and was 15 years old.
It just belittles Tony's genius, one-upping him in every way and as a bonus she's black and has a vagina you guys (!). I wouldn't think it was as bad if she atleast got taught some stuff by Tony so that she doesn't just magically know all about the Iron Man suits without ever learning anything about them from the original creator.
people just need a scapegoat to blame for problems, the problem in this case being... wait what exactly is the problem?

Nope, the problem is with shoehorning a "totally diverse" character with lazy explanation to as why it was done.
And it being not the first time Brandis done that, and it previously lead to disasterous results.
People are tired to see their beloved characters being exploited like that.

I've literally never heard a single person complain about Nick Fury being black. Same with Black Panther in the recent Avengers movie.
Hell most people are absolutely thrilled about Black Panther and are hyped as hell for his movie (myself included)

Even then, Nick Fury being black in the movies wasnt some movie invention, there was a black Nick Fury existing back in like, 2002.
